up to 6°. a break tomorrow at 30, then colder again.
weather in the garden # 138
Light at the end of the tunnel!...I think this is it for the brutal cold.....should hit 30 today, but the cold coming isn't as severe.....
Hoping not for your sakes.
temperature has risen to 19° about 3" of snow last night. Just enough to be annoying. Boston now has had 100" 2nd highest measurement. I can do without any more.
Longer days are with us already:) Fairly warm today, just below freezing. We chipped ice from where the water falls on the driveway and finally found de-icing salt at Lowes. Clerk said it had just come in. People were hauling it away pretty fast.
Our dog is complaining! He's also turned into quite the predator because he can catch the squirrels at the birdfeeder. The sweet dog seems to have bloodlust, strutting around with his toys etc. Weather does strange things to all of us.
Nicki loves to shake her toys.....you don't think of poodles being hunters, but they are! No snow here, but maybe a flurry brushing us from the storm going by to our south.....story on TV last night...homeowners chipped ice on roof & put stockings filled with ice melt up there.......water somehow went down into walls, caused an electrical short, & house was destroyed.....elderly couple got out with the clothes on their back.....happened close to where a good friend of mine lives.....very scary! Didn't know water could do that!
Glad they got out safely.
Just got about an inch.
Snowing here too, again.
How is the power supply on Nantucket? I heard about it going out in the big blizzard, but not since then.
21° It probably won't get higher today. Light snow around noon but it is ending. It gives a little more traction for me on our snowy driveway. roads are narrow now, people are careful because very difficult to see around corners because of snow banks. The same for the end of the driveway.
I can see how a house could be wrecked by this snow melting. Hope all fare well in the weeks to come. We are getting a few snowflakes tonight.
The word I am going around saying is "sublimation," not the psychological term, but the fact that solids (ie our snow) can turn directly into a gas and skip the liquid stage. So, think fog.
For Marilyn, there was a parody of a neo-Jungian pop psychology book, called "Women who run with the Poodles." Little do they know. Our sweet things are wolves underneath.
Well, I certainly can't run, but I'm the woman 'Who Walks with Poodles'! When she's not trying to pull the leash out of my hands! Our 'flurries' turned into another inch on the top of the snow piles. Patti, saw the 'frozen waves' from Nantucket on the news last night.....very weird!
16° bright sun More snow Sun night & Mon? There is no place to put new stuff.
That's what our forecast is also......worried about my roof!
Ugh!
I think you will get more than we do, Marilyn according to the predicted spread of the snow. I will check the weather for us to double check. 27° & bright sun now. I can see that some melting has accured & a big chunk of ice came off the gutters. I wish more would fall off.
Tomorrow is MARCH!
& more snow!
On the brighter side, we were able to crack some ice from the driveway and sidewalk. Five day forecast makes it hard to believe this is March, though.
Another frosty night! Snow totals still ranging from 3-6 for the state.......hope they're wrong!
25° overcast so I guess storm is coming. It was 5° earlier this morning.
A little snow this morn before it turned to sleet and freezy rain.
2-3 inches of snow tonight. It might have stopped.
Covered in ice this morning. School has a 2 hour delay. For what it's worth......I think it should be closed.
Snow total here was 4" ...I'm plowed out, but the drive is slippery....road looks OK, though.....
2-3" here. the plows have done their swipe along the street. 25° & overcast.
Oh, Jan! What a project! Certainly will keep your mind off the weather......quite a mess heading this way.....
Yes, indeed, RD!
We are babysitting til Thursday. DS and DDIL got a call just before midnight saying their flight to Manchester, NH was cancelled, so they got a flight to Boston. Only thing was WE had to be at their house by 5:30 this morning. Jeff took them to the airport and I stayed with the kiddos and (ifidosaysomyself) I did a pretty good job of getting them out the door fully dressed and fed and delivered to two different schools and a bus stop. Whew!!! NOw, if the youngest naps and we can get out the door to pick them all up this afternoon! then I will consider the day to be a success. Hehehehe!!!! After school snacks, homework, piano practice, dinner, chores, bedtime routine, reading. I play volleyball at 8, so we will tag team the bedtime routine. Thinking I will sleep well tonight.
More snow is coming later in the week. I'm praying they can fly back on time Thursday.
Fe here until late this afternoon with wintry mix followed by rain & more snow on Thurs. The weather over the next 2 days will lead to slippery going. I would have trouble dealing with kids situation even if I were younger. 25° at present & bright sun.
With the snow so high a grey squirrel has been able to jump on the feeder from the ground; annoying we didn't stock our tube feeder for its benefit.
Sounds like Jan has a happy tangle of people. I kinda miss the soccer practice and piano lessons.
Hope everyone's roof is cooperating with this weather. It is very hard to avoid leaks in spots.
snow melt and some freezing rain today. all will freeze tonight
About an inch of snow has fallen.. I think some sleet is mixed in with it.
What a mess here! A lake at the bottom of the drive.....no where to go!....& slush at the top.....32 right now, supposed to get to 40.....am not shoveling! Jan, you certainly will sleep well......I babysit every Fri. afternoon & it takes a toll!
39° 2" of mix overnight--melting going on. overcast.
Shakespeare (as usual) said it best:
Now is the winter of our discontent.
True that, Don!
Oh, I slept very well. So did the youngest. They told me to expect him to come down sometime in the night, but he stayed in his own bed all night.
Looking for an accumulation of the white stuff tonight and tomorrow. Hoping DS and DDIL get home tomorrow okay.
I hope all drivers can navigate these roads. A bit over an inch fell last night, but as we are up to 42° road are good. The problem which others must have is the snow banks which can make looking down a cross road be very interesting. The bank which is above the car roof at the end of the driveway can be difficult when exiting. DH chopped the ice off the second step off our porch. It is now possible to step down the one & then to the ground without the fear of sliding from the porch to the ground with a fall.
Boy, I am discontented by this winter . But son of York making into summer would not be amiss, although I am fearful of what will happen when all this melts.
Instead of lofty Shakespear, I've been humming the song, MacArthur Park. "Someone left the cake out in the rain...." Outdoors wasn't too bad today with 40ish temps but you had to watch where you stepped!
right, but back to the 20s tomorrow.
