Afternoon everyone.
Sorry I missed your coffee Marion. Well, did the grands managed to finagle their way to a bookstore after your birthday bash?
Synda, my mother almost said the same thing when a volcano erupted in neigbouring Indonesia. She woke me up screaming "The flat (apartment building) is about to come down and you're sleeping!" Duhh.. as though I knew the date when the volcano will erupt!!
Hope your migraine goes away forever.
Sis Kathy, since you're on Lasix, Synda is right, make sure you drink some mineral drinks to replenish lost minerals. I really forgot the side effects, am glad that Synda brought it up.
You'd lose potassium too, and though you're eating fruits, take some potassium supplement to prevent you from being weak at times.
Sue, thanks for sharing those pictures. I gather the second pic is a press... and the third.. where cider is cooked or fermented since it looks stainless steel? That's a lot of apples!! What do you do with the pulp?
Hey LK, Barb, Susan, what sewing projects are you all up to?
Cookie, I think you've mentioned about an oversize brug that you wanted to dig up.
Sorry I can't answer you as I've never dug out one. I'd just normally trim the limbs, and left the rest on the ground, but then, mulched and some would return next spring, but I'm in a warmer zone.
How is Bill?
A slow day today for me, lost energy due to mental and emotional fatigue. These will soon pass, as I try not to dwell on the hurts.
Lord has always been good to me, and I can't let Him down in losing my faith.
Once I get hold of the books, I'll have a way out!!!
Be happy sistahs.. brother Ernie.. take some breaks!
Rm 295 "Sweet Interruptions" Hotel
I'm here!
Well, Jaye, thanks for asking. Everyday he gets a little better and stronger. Having a tooth pulled didn't help matters any. He had to do it though since he was off his Coumadin.
I do have some brugs I will be digging up. I had one I over wintered in water on my window ledge. I either got it from you or LK. Can't remember which. (Pea sized brain, and old timers disease) The others came from Sissy this Spring. The huge one finally has a bud on it. I'm hoping it will be warm enough for it to open. I'm not sure if the one that's blooming its' little heart out is the one I over wintered, or one that Sissy sent me. Doesn't really matter. I'm just thrilled they all lived and grew! I planted them in the ground instead of pots so now they'll have to be dug up for the winter.
I love, love, love the color on the one that's blooming. Could it be Caroline?
Dang, I missed Marion's birthday. Hope it was a good one.
Ernie, took the plastic covering off that old De Walt. It is a radial arm saw/ table and son says it is cast iron. Not in the best shape. Trying to sweep all the spider webs, etc. off of it so I can get a picture. He said it would take 3 gorillas to move it. Now I'm wondering how he moved it from under the car port to the patio. Been sitting there for years. Pictures coming later.
We are going to have triple digit temps this weekend. Wish I had some of the a/c they have at the library, the girls don't know how lucky they have it.
Pegi radial arm saws don't have much value these days cast iron or otherwise. The invention of the chop saw has pretty much made radial arm saws obsolete. Sorry I don't have better news. If you file long form income taxes you are better off to see if the good will or Salvation will take it and give you a receipt for your taxes.
All star wrestling has just come on. I think this may be my signal to go to bed.
The Drs put my foot in a cast today. The idea is to keep me from putting any weight on the ball of my foot. They are trying to heal a diabetic ulcer . The last time they did this it worked for a while. The darn thing keeps coming back however.
The garden is about kuput I will have a friend till the majority of it under tomorrow.
Joycet nice brugs lol I seem to be brug challenged.
I usually am, too, Ernie! I'm thrilled they have cooperated this year!! I think planting them in the ground as what did it for me this year. I'm not so good about remembering to water my pots! Mother Nature was generous this year with her watering!!
Cookie and Pegi, I know there is so much going on in your lives that it is just fine you forgot. Shucks, I do believe I am to the age I will start forgetting. :-)
Glad to hear Bill is doing better........that is enough to keep your mind occupied Cookie. Not to mention your gardens.
No trip to the bookstore last night Jaye. We went for frozen yogurt instead. Was a wonderful evening with lots of laughter and fun. My DIL seems to be doing much better since her miscarriage and keep us in stitches. She can be so funny but doesn't always show that side.
Abbigail was "glowing". She is so into being in middle school and is turning into a very grown up young lady. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! I wanted her to stay smaller longer!! Catie_Beth was her usual entertaining self.....not sure if she is angel or part demon!! Just love her!!
Not much planned for today.
Ernie, sorry to hear you are having trouble with a foot ulcer. My daughter is diabetic and so far is doing very well. Her only complaint is the podiatrist cuts her toe nails shorter than she likes. She will live with that!!
Well off to refill the coffee cup.........................
I'm wondering Maid M if I'll ever get another hug from you? Seems like forever ago we saw each other!!
Oh please don't give up......it will happen!!! Besides there is more of me to hug now. ;-)
LOL! Me, too!!
Afternoon everyone. Back from My Dr. visit in San Antonio. I just got two more Dr.'s added to the long list. My orthopedic Dr, has referred me to a spine specialist. I have had this pain in my right shoulder for a few months now, and at first he thought it was bursitis, but nothing is showing up on X-rays, and the shots don't do anything. So he took an X-ray of my neck and told me it is really messed up, and that may be affecting my arm, so I need to call and make an appointment for that, He also told me I may have a severe form of rheumatoid arthritis, so he has referred me to a good rheumatologist . Then he told me to make these appointments quickly, as he thinks Obama care will begin to control all other forms of insurance, and it may come to the point, where no one will be allowed to see a specialist in the new future. GETTING OLD SUCKS!
No sewing this week end, but Christmas is getting closer, and I need to get the quilts done for the Grand kids.
Marion, glad to hear you had a good time with the girls.
Cookie, I am so glad you got some brugs to bloom for you! Cover them with a thick layer of mulch, and they should be fine. You can also take cuttings just before you get y our frost, and root the in water, you have a lot more next year.
That won't work for me, LK. I've tried it before. It just gets too cold here. They turn to mush no matter what I put over them.
So I will either dig them up or take cuttings. I hope my tall one has enough time to bloom before frost hits us. It was in the 40's last night and will be again tonight. Then it warms back up a little for a while. The one I showed you will definitely get dug and potted. It's fabulous and everyone is awed when they see it. They're not many brugs in Ohio!!
The morning sky is awash with a pinkish glow . Swirling puffy white clouds gently move about the stately 10,203 foot mountain that is the focal point of surrounding foot hills. The soft colors reflect off the snow covered peaks. Bald spots here and there are signaling the end of summer. In another month and it will be the start of a new beginning of the dressing of the old lady. Her white dress will drape down her steep sides much like the drips and droops of an overgrown ice cream cone. I have reflected on this for 42 years but no more. They built a school directly behind my house so my view of mount Baker is now just a memory that I recall with one hand wrapped around a ceramic coffee cup filled with steaming coffee. I was advised by two law firms that the government says I don't have the right to a view even though all around the relators advertise VIEW property how is that so. Forty some years prior the school bought the property behind even though I had a deal to buy it when the farmer was ready to retire and didn't need it any more. Sheesh blindsided by a nice guy or so I thought.
Any of you that know what Chinese Pheasants are may find this interesting, I have some hens that are drab brown and sorta short tails and two males that are gaudily dressed in red and gold and white and green with long tails. One old old hen has started turning colors and it is obvious that she is taking on the male colors and growing a long tail. Weird Linda looked it up and research shows this happens to one in 40,000 old hens.
Yesterday a friend came over and tilled part of my garden. I needed help because I can't drive the tractor with the cast on my foot.
Very poetic description. We live in a touristy area of the state, up here the slogan is..."a view of the bay is half your pay". We aren't on the great Lake but a small inland lake, we own the property on the lake but it is a separate lot from our house. So on our tax papers we are taxed for the "view". They gonna get ya one way or another. So sorry your view was blocked.
My hubby used to raise pheasants, He had Silvers and Goldens with the long exotic tails. Beautiful critters but soooo noisy especially the Silvers. When we lived downstate, we were 1 block from Detroit city limit, we had Ringnecks used to come to our feeders.
Ernie, the beginning of your first paragraph sounded like a poet, or the beginning page of a new novel. You've certainly got a way with words....
Sorry about your view though. Try to be comforted by the fact that most of us will never have the opportunity to see that and you would only have to travel a bit for quite a show.
O h My LK no one needs more Dr's. But i do hope you get the relief from your shoulder pain.
hmmm * heavy sigh* not a good weekend.
went to a party and i ended up not feeling well and we left. Then Tom's car won't start :( i drove him to work, but i sure hope he can get a ride home ? , he won't get off until 10 pm tonight. i m to far to go get him .
gosh i sure hope he can get his car fixed
Went out to eat with sister, brother & sister-in-law, and sister & I had a large mango margarita. Was so good and since mango's are good for you we decided it was a healthy drink. Sister is still healing from knee replacement surgery and doing well, brother is on chemo pills and after a slight set back is eating, gaining weight and looking a lot better. Had such a nice time, always do when we are together.
Ernie, I took a couple pictures of that old saw and hope you can tell me something about it. Don't know who I would call about it. Ignore the mess around it as I'm not going to move a lot of things to get a decent picture.
Ernie, you are a poet !
Suppose to get to 100 today and it is already at 95 . Don't want to move from this spot as I have the ceiling fan on directly over me and it feels so good.
Just went back and read Ernie's post about the saw. Oh yes, that isn't good news at all, so guess I will do as my sister said, "Call a junk man to get it out of your yard". Guess I should have them hall away an old boat on a trailer that in my opinion was a piece of junk when DH bought it.
Haven't had to file any income taxes so I could always give the receipt to a friend who needs deductions on her tax forms. Thanks for your help anyway, I appreciate it.
My hubby thinks you should be able to get something for it, there are those who collect old tools, or failing that it does have scrap metal value.
Morning everyone, a quick note that I'll be at a PA's office, trying to squeeze in an appt. My stomach's been bothering me this weekend even though the football was good, there's nor relief.
Hugs to all.
Sure hope you get some relief Jaye.
Hope your pain goes away too LK.
Just got back, after a long wait at the clinic.
Apparently the bouts of diarrhea, is caused by IBS.
I had been overindulging in tomatoes. Thought tomatoes are great in fiber and good for you, but PA says, that was too much of a good thing. So, I have to curb that for now, only in moderation she says, and to add other 'easy' fibers along with that. But I do add black beans, pineapples, jicamas..! Now what am I supposed to do with 3 pounds of Roma tomatoes that I just bought? Oh well, will cook them down with herbs, and bottle it for a sauce next week.
That will be soluble fiber right?
Yes it sucks to be old LK.
Good thing I have a habit of drinking sugar free mineral drinks, if not I'll definitely be dehydrated. So, antibiotics and a low fiber diet for now.. wouldn't diarrhea needs a high fiber one I asked. Guess I'm just a strange one.
This has left me weak and unable to perform daily chores, uninterrupted. At least I had stocked up on toilet paper!
Mangos are good in salsas too Pegi. I love them! My grandma had a mango tree and she'd pickle the raw ones.
Ernie, lovely, lovely description of your view that will be robbed.. unfortunately. So sorry..
Happy birthday Thunder!!
Happy Birthday Thunder !
E-mailed a couple scrap metal places and both quotes were $220/ton. Have no idea what this weights. Or $10/pound. Have to see what my son says about this. I guess whoever can come out and pick it up for free would be my choice. I have more scrap iron around here, I did mention my dh never threw anything away. Should have put a stop to that years ago. See what else son can put together for a nice package. LOL
Susie has the Oct Witchy & Spookie Swap open.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1375977/
Around here, Pegi, there are two kinds of scrap metal buyers, the one that doesn't require seller's id nor registration and the one that does. Needless to say, the one that's legit pays more. Kel used to subsidize our income selling scrap metal.
Hi - just got home from Dr's.......... what I thought was a major pain in my foot is actually a very "pedestrian" issue........ a Bunion, for pete's sake! Mind you, and inflamed one, but still....... how very very very ordinary!! Two codeine pills wouldn't touch the pain, and you gotta know (for me) that that's a lot....... one will normally take care of my pain, and two will put me OUT. Didn't touch it, or me at all.
Heading out camping again this w/e (Friday afternoon), so need to do some cushion covers for the RV - very easy, I guess....... IF I have enuff material lol
oh, and the weather has gone from snow storm and freezing (some poooooor gardens are ruined) to 77F here today....... we're back to a cool, and sunny, summer, ladies!!
have fun camping Susan . Sorry to hear of your bunion . ouch.
first day at apple orchard went good. Rex the young man who is running the press with me , is a great helper ! great kid. He does all the heavy lifting. LOL
got a raise too ! wow. didn't see that one coming.
went to gym
Oh the witchy and spookie swap does sound fun. I have never done a swap .
Happy birthday Thunder. eat lots of cake. :)
Jaye so glad you stocked up on toilet paper.
Thanks Sue :-)
Has anyone else here had a bunion? Mine feels like broken glass in an open wound......
Dr. also mentioned "Did you ever have gout?" and gave me a requisition for an x-ray
no, btw - I've never had gout.........
I've had a bunion for years and years. It doesn't bother me much if I wear the proper shoes.
ah - mine bothers me whether I wear shoes or not.......
Ouch. That sounds painful. Hope it is an easy fix.
until I get an x-ray, I guess I won't know for sure.......
in the meantime - it's anti-inflammatories & pain killers. The pain killers are sorta-kicking-in.
Wish they'd work on my hip - it popped out when I got out of my car, and turned "wrong".
I'm feeling a bit like a mess atm........... left knee's meniscus, right hip, and right big toe LOL
Told the Dr I felt like being cut off at the waist LOL
Happy Birthday Thunder ♥
Bunions aren't fun, poor you Susan. I have an old hammer that might take that pain off!! Lol!! Kidding. Hope it won't put a damper on your camping trip.
Now, now Sue. He's there to help remember! But it he's good looking, that will make work doubly easier for you ladies!
Good morning sistahs and bro Ernie.
DD coffee, wheat toasts and all sorts of jelly for you. None for me, sticking to dry toast.
Am trying to return to normal routine, if the cats aren't fed at a certain time, they'd take their hunger out on each other.
Weather's been wet, hot and humid here. Still in the 80s which is good for me as I don't want an early winter. It's predicted that we will have a chilly and wet winter. As long as it doesn't include all that white, I'm happy.
Morning everyone! Thanks for the breakfast Jaye!
YW LK. Is your garden ready for winter?
Only deep mulching for me will be the brugmansia trees, I'd be leaving the clemmies alone.
I never had much of a garden this year, It was just too hot for anything to grow. What the ants did not eat, the sun did. Your Gingers are still hanging in there, but still no blooms. About all I have blooming now are sunflowers, and they are almost gone to seed for the birds, and a few canna's. Hopefully next year will be better?
I had a a funnel cake with strawberries for breakfast!! and cherry cheesecake for lunch!! awesome day.
thanks Y'all
HUGS to everyone♥♥♥♥♥
