Yeah but ferns are another that grow when they do some a few weeks , sometimes a few years ,, ?
It is 47 degrees around here tonight ,
had to bring in the house plants , that were on the porch ..
Those could be a very small Datura #3 above ..
I cut feverfew today
Went around topping the thistles
Cutting down plants found a couple more bronze fennel plants , I will put those next to the Lilac tree next year , collected up some red shades gaillardia seeds only one I thought , but a smaller second one returned very late this cold season here ,, Cooling down like it is there is a good , fewer mosquitoes ..
Plant Propagation Part 4 -The Basics
I'll take the 47. It's suppose to be 99 here today.
So JU, how did you grow the Bronze Fennel? I was going to do that this year, but didn't get anything planted that didn't grow on the deck. Did you find seed for it? Do you collect seed from it? Save some for me if you do.
I don't think that is a Dat. Not the right leaves.
Well, got a dr. appt. in less than an hour so better get moving. ttyl, jen
Ju, #3 is a Hibiscus trionum (Flower Of An Hour). I like them even though they are an annual, even the seed head is cool...blows up like a transparent balloon before it splits to release it's seed.
Your Daylily's are beautiful.
so JU, is that a milkweed the cat is on? Is that a Monarch? Very pretty, both. jen
No Ju, I have some seed but I didn't send any in the robin. Apparently (from what I've read), they are an annual weed and the seeds can stay viable in the ground for at least 80 years. They had a slow start this year around here too. Your weather patterns and mine are usually the same.
Good Grief!! 80 years!! They will start growing in a shopping mall. If there are such things then. Would be interesting huh?
Milkweed and cats. Very interesting, and pretty too. Can't normally get those 2 together. LOL
Ju... there is so much foliage on those milkweeds for a cat that large... did they start at the bottom and work their way up? Mine strip my plants in a couple of days... although mine aren't as tall as yours...
NF 2932) They were hardly eating that I could tell , however more leaves from the bottom half eaten than the top ,
Their hiding today . early morning late evening , sometimes I see them ..lol good cover .
Here's a honeyvine milkweed the Kudzu of the north ,,
I am going to set one or few these near the others as to decide , the big syrica are going to stay where they are ,, thick cover is weedy looking , but it is what they like ..
Difficult to find cats unless they come up to the top ..
Good that they are hiding Ju... keep them safe from the birds! -:)
Beautiful zinnias JU. Love the pink. But then, I love all the colors.
Shane, my yard guy worked hard today. It was so hot and he worked 5 or 6 hours with only one break. I got him a big glass of iced Root Beer. I looked at the thermometer once and it was 96 out there at 3 o'clock. I told Bob to cut him off so he did and gave him a ride home and a $100.
I can't figure out what is happening to my posts. This will be my 3rd try here.
I really love the pink zinnias JU. But, then I like all the pretty colors.
Shane, my yard worker worked about 5 hours and REALLY worked. He took one break in that time and I got him a big glass of iced Root Beer. Finally at 3 o'clock I looked at the thermometer and it was 96 out there so I told Bob to cut him off. He did and gave him a ride home and a $100. He will be back Friday. But, it won't be much cooler.

Ju replied me either !!! ???

LOL, Here I am losing mine, and JU is overdoing his. Well, talk for me JU.
BTW, How is that Daylily doing? My orange one. Are there going to be enough fans for me to get one? If not you better fertilize it. LOL Just teasing you JU. Don't send me one unless you get as many as you said last year that you needed to be able to send me one.
Your flowers are so pretty. My poor bed is being taken over by Rudbeckias. Don't remember ever planting those yellow ones. I had the Cherry Brandys in there, and I don't see them this year, but the yellow ones. I wonder if the CBs are reverting back to whatever were used to hybridize them to get that color.
Shane said he would be back Friday so hopefully he will be able to work on that. Bob had a good idea. He told me to take some pictures from the kitchen deck which looks down over that perennial bed and use that to tell him what I want done. So, hopefully that will work.
I am seeing the possibility of four fans at least two have to stay together , so a couple there will be ,
It will bloom another couple weeks yet
I want to keep the rights to propagate it though . As not registered you can do anything you want with it
Then it will be "Jen's Mountain Orange" How about that ,,lol
I am setting up a mountain mint tray , and a couple of fringe tree seeds .Still waiting on Bamboo seeds , nothing new there , as cool as it's been and it takes a lot of warm for those to germinate , last time about 1 to 3 months to germination .
Trying not to forget is the thing , sprouter covers help out with that .. That and no heating mat , all requires patience ...
Another group of Zinnia
Beautiful. You sure have the patience JU. Even 20 years ago, when I would have been the age you are now, I didn't have the patience to wait 3 months for a seed to germinate. Let me ask you, have you ever started Oleanders from seed? Lee sent me some last year and I couldn't get them to germinate. I just found out recently that she didn't either. But, I still have them if you want to try them. The problem with them, is that I am not sure they can take the cold winters. She takes hers inside. Don't know how she does it. She has a few and they are over 7 ft tall. No, she didn't start them. She bought them as small plants. But she got all these seeds off of them. She told me the other day she has a lot more, and she sent me a lot. So, if you want them, let me know.
JU, I was just looking at your zinnias again. And remembered we were talking about how you started them. Are you telling me you started each/all of them in the house and then replanted them outside?
How is Judy? Have they decided what they are going to do with her yet? jen
I will have to read up on Oleander . thank you for the offer , I will have to read more about them '
I started those zinnia in those sprouters , Put the seeds and chaff and all , when they send out a root I plant them ,,
No decision ,,, About sister ,,
I just got through planting the mountain mint and some variegated Bamboo grass seeds ,,
I don't know how this is going to go though , a very slow cool season for seedlings ,,
I still have another row of zinnia yet to start blooming ,, Bees , hummingbirds butterflies everyday now , in the big group of zinnia
My late Monarch chrysalis is turning dark and wiggling tonight ,, maybe in the morning #24 will be with us ...
Hoping for five to 7 million of them in southern hibernation this winter ,, hopefully that or more ...
Careful with oleander- has been known to sicken pets that sleep under them and is poisonous...Fl plant is everywhere, likes heat humid and drainage and neglect.
Well, there is hardly a plant out there that isn't poisonous to animals, peoples, etc. I just figure they better be smart enough not to eat them.
I'm just messin' with the Clivia seeds JU. I did start some Greyphon begonias from seeds in the spring and they are looking pretty good.. They call them an annual. I call them a houseplant.
Is that #24 to you JU? If so, that's pretty darned good for one person to do that many.
Yes Kitt, California has the Oleanders growing on the Medians between their freeways. Just like Washington plants Scotch Broom along their freeways. Every state has something different I guess. Makes it interesting for the truckers I guess. Huh Kitt?
Doubt truckers notice anything that isnt big enuff to hurt them. We do have a lot of trucks that like to tree hug, tsk, tsk. Yup, Calif uses oleanders up the 99 to reduce dust and the eucalyptus the same way. Ga uses dogwoods, NC loves daylilys and poppies with their pines. Tx has several plants- crepe myrtles, cannas, desert willows... Many states seem to plant state/ballgame colored plants. Oleander sheds a toxin - more than small animals can tolerate, not the eatingof the plants dying scene
Now Kitt, are you a trucker? You just told me they don't notice the plants on the freeways. And listen to you telling me what each state has on theirs. LOL
When I was driving long haul, I sure noticed...and appreciated what was growing in the medians.
Chuckl- Jen coy? I have more hats than I have held steering wheels- or sticks either for that matter. My favorite hat is a bewildered at being in my 60's great granma. It snuck up on me. I am at present layering 2 female muscadine grape vines for someone who requested them and using Mother Nature to sweeten the tease of roots. Next step will be to cut the vine and ask a few questions of you guys here.
I know I make a pointed? cut, and reason says I allow it to seal? before also covering the ends with soil? Good so far? Any other suggestions since I plan on doing this closer to Sept or Oct as the vines sap recedes, or could do now so the cut ends might also root? Will the cut end root?
Atlanta Ga. Fulton Industrial hwy at QT fuelstop better than this road once was! We noticed trees esp at sunrise and sunset. Thicker shade the better or you get strobed unmercifully
Mipii Robin ) Do let those Hibiscus Tronium reseed their self or do you keep seeds to restart ?
One of them bloomed this morning , cute ..
Reminds me of miniature Rose of Sharon .
Nice pics kitt I have a concord grape vine , about to turn ripe the Grapes ..
Well Jen only a few I have kept and released ,, Saw four more Monarchs today , 28 now .. Two Hummingbirds doing their dance also ..
Planted some Knockout Purple Salvia ..
You'll have to stick with JU for help on air layering those grapes. I have never heard of cutting to a point tho. How can it seal that way when there isn't much touching the other branch? Maybe if they are both round, but do you cut out the female part of the graft?
Yeah kitt, you can't trick an old trickster. LOL
Besides Mipii told on you.
The sealing part isnt a graft to another plant. Its what will happen if allowed to dry some. Didn't know if the sealing part was necessary. The point or catacorner cut is how I always did my roses a few decades back. I think it aids in keeping the stem alive.
Ju, after the flower closes, the seed pod will develop. I harvested seeds when the seed capsule opened. They didn't re-seed that well for me...I'm glad I kept seeds 'cause the flowers last such a short time and a nice swath of them would look good.
Well, good luck you two. You really lost me Kitt. Have fun. Jen
Kitt, I know that a callous on succulents seals the stem before rooting, it prevents them from rotting. I haven't heard of using that method for other cuttings. I always cut mine (other than succulents) on an angle too...giving more rooting area. I'm sure that's only one way to do it, hopefully an expert will chime in for you.
Thats ok. you just jogged my memory of why I do it. Since my roots are already establishing tho, I think the ends need trimmed close enough not to rot if they dont root also. I think the 'callous'' part is to further prevent rot and put the plant in a higher survival mode. Thanx. Back quiet
OK Kitt, I understand now. You didn't mean a point like in a pencil sharpener.. Guess there are all kinds of points. Good luck with the project. Jen
JU, your grapes are beautiful. So are the been leaves, do they have any beans?
Spiritual food as in loud cries of 'I wont do it again I swear I wont eat so many?' and 'take that everlovin holy air somewhere else to let go of it??' chuckl. Yup. What I tell some of the dainty types sniggerin in the gals room- ' We built 1 room in our homes for the soul purpose of relievin ourselves of the most nastiest noises and airs and functions known to man. If its quiet you are wasting the room, please join us in puttin the room to better use.' I am tired, gotta boil out a a place I skinned to meat on my arm from this trailer and cutting that 1" flap of skin off. Sweet dreams all. I liked your critturs better before I knew how apt to eat each other they were. Or eat my hummers for that matter too... Its ok Jen- I confuse myself many many days. I am homeward bound, and grateful I am to be getting there on the 4th by late pm. Catch ya from Waco tomorow night if all goes well.
Sorry guys. mixed my forums. sheesh.
