Real interesting and pretty funny, thanks for sharing it.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

What a great article! I thought I would feel sorry for the man when I watched the video but I didn't, Cantankerous and lying through his teeth, grrrrrrr

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Woweeee, that is unexpected!!!

Parkville, MD(Zone 7b)

Hey you Potomac area people: Benhke's is closing that location and they're having a moving sale. So if there's something you've got you eye on, now's a good time to get over there!

Jan, Great View, I've never seen any of the Great Lakes other than to fly over them.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Yeah Holly, me neither! That is such a beautiful and peaceful-looking view!!
Have fun Jan!!!!!!! ♥

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Fantastic Jan, I'm excited for you! You're gonna awaken my wanderlust.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I don't think I have seen anyone mentioning the frogs this spring. The frogs here are so loud you can hear them with the doors & windows shut and the TV on. Last night I was sitting here with the door open and heard a Woodpecker. It was really loud and while I was thinking about how loud it was I realized that it was really late. Why would a Woodpecker be drilling on trees in the dark? Then I realized that it was a frog, different sound than I usually hear. Boy he was really loud, although all of them are really loud.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

You do have some loud frogs there Holly!
We heard them on and off, and toads, but not many seem to be in our yard. They're over in the woods.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I have to close the doors and add my hearing aid to watch a movie. Most nights it sounds like 7 year locust, the din is just so great. It is beautiful till you want to watch something. LOL

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

And fireflies!! For the past week or so, I am finally seeing fireflies (or lightning bugs) in the yard again - seems like ages since I've seen them!! I'm seeing them during the day time too, and I've noticed that they're enjoying hanging out in my back shady container area. :)

With so much other stuff going on, I forgot to mention my orthodontic appointment this past Wednesday. It's official now.. the date has been set for my TWO appointments on July 3 to get the braces off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW it's gonna be weird, I keep thinking my teeth are gonna feel so naked, LOL!!! My real fear is that they're gonna feel "unsafe"; no longer protected and held in place by the braces, are they gonna feel all loose and wobbly!?!? When he would take the wire out during an appt. just to tweak it, even that would feel weird.. I'm sorta nervous! < =/ heeheeheee

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Speedie, now you have no choice but to come to the fall swap and show us your pretty teeth! :)

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

yay Speedie! so glad to hear they've set a date for this now!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Hey speedie, don't think of all the foods you wanted to eat while in braces. LOL

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

YES, I am SUPER excited to show off my new smile at the Fall Swap!! And Ric, ALL I can think about is 'SNICKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!', LOL!!! DH has already told me that, when they come off, we're going to have a bagel and Snickers party! < =D Hahahaahaaaa!!! (those are the two things I've missed the most this past nearly 2 years) < =/

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Oooh, I LOVE bagels and snickers.

It has been pretty rainy, drizzly, overcast MOST of the way. Today, though it is clear and dry. Stopped in Edmondton for another wifi break. Made sure NOT to bring in my purse, cuz we don't want to do ANOTHER 200 mile round trip to retrieve it. VERY thankful it was found intact. Had a few stressful hours til we knew. I now have a checklist for ME as well as for the RV. Hope to be in Dawson Creek tomorrow at the start of the Alaskan highway.

Pretty much the only things I see in bloom are lilacs. There was some silver willow in bloom at the campsite last night. Smelled wonderful!

Have seen a wolf, some bison, a coyote, beaver and a deer that tried to getupcloseandpersonal!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wow! a memorable trip already!!!!!!! some good some bad LOL !

I'm so paranoid about the purse it usually hangs on my knee while I eat. DS always made me nervous at restaurants, he'd put glasses and then phone on the middle of the table. grr kids. But I cannot say we ever had to go back and retrieve them.

Gotta watch those Bambis!! don't ever consider them tame, you seem to know already.

Thanks for checking in!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

so glad you got your purse back, Jan! I tend to hang onto mine obsessively.

sounds like you're seeing a lot of cool sights!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Jan--

I missed, somehow, how your purse was lost? taken?

Can you catch-me-up? Thanks...Gita

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Jan, love hearing about your trip.

Alaska has always been on my bucket list of places to see. Got me thinking about the others. Topping the list for me is Prince Edward Island, one of the Canadian maritime provinces and the setting for my beloved Anne of Green Gables books. P.E.I. has topped the list for me since I was a kid. What destinations are topping the list for anyone else?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Giant redwoods are on my last.

Nice idea for a thread...

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

My neighbors have a house on PEI. They love it up there. I too always wanted to go see the giant redwoods too! Wouldn't that be fun if we could all get together to take a vacation out there to see it?

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh, I love Anne of Green Gables! These books are so popular in Japan that the PEI has thousands of Japanese tourists that visit every year.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

That's one I never read. Who'd guess there are so many Japanese fans of Anne?

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I loved the Anne of Green Gables series too! It definitely made me want to visit PEI--great idea for a field trip! Also love the Redwoods idea. Hmm, where else could we go...?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ric and I always wanted to go to Australia but the time for that trip has come and past us by. We have been trying to plan a trip up into the NE States as close as they are we never seem to get up north. I want to see the Bay of Fundy.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

When I was 16, my family camped across the country for a month. When we reached California, we started at the southern end and made our way north along the coast. Saw the Redwood Forest - spectacular.

Most destinations on my bucket list are in the US and Canada. I don't think I am the type for foreign adventure, with the exception of maybe seeing Scotland and Ireland. Hmmm... besides P.E.I, I'd like to go to states like Maine, Montana, Alaska.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I would love to do a trip across the country and see sights I have not seen before!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Whoa, we have black bear sightings in Wheaton, MD!

Wheaton is a DC suburb not too far from the beltway. It's densely populated and hard to believe that a bear would find come all the way here for food.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Easy pickins for the bear. Hard to live out of sight though and pretty scary I think. I remember when I was a kid my family visited one of my parents friends who lived on 100 acres on the other side of Blue Mountain. There were two black bears seen when I was there and I had nightmares about it for months afterward.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

We have bear sightings in Howard Co too--- pretty close to one of the parks we frequent with Addy. I think the bear would be a lot more savvy about avoiding us, then we are , and so I really doubt a run in. But I'm afraid Addy would try and protect Mark and me from a bear....with very sad results.

My son was a camp counselor in Montana couple years ago, brought back fabulous pics and memories! I don't know if I'd love the long winter though...still patches of snow through June.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Gita; regarding your question about Jan's purse: a few days ago, she'd been in a McDonald's and forgot her purse there. Had to make a 200 mile round-trip trip back to get it. Thank God it was fully intact, nothing stolen from it. This is one of the reasons why I do not carry a purse at all... I'm too darned forgetful. I carry a men's bi-fold wallet in one back pocket, and only small necessities in other pockets (phone, keys, lip balm). That's it. So, unless I take my pants off and leave them somewhere, I'm safe. :)

The only out-of-country place I would really love to visit is Ireland. Otherwise, there's still so much of this country that I want to see, namely Wyoming, Montana, and all the New England states. I used to live in Cali, been on several trips up north to see the Sequoias and Redwoods... spectacular!! =)

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I'd like to see the Bay of Fundy and PEI, they're only about 4 hours apart. I just don't need to drive across Maine again, yes it's beautiful and wild, but it's beautiful and wild, and I didn't lose anything there. Some year I'd like to mulch all the gardens on April 1st, and take a slow trip to the west coast and back. I figure our garden budget should about cover it. LOL We plan to fly to Mexico this fall and do a cruise to Alaska next year so it may take a couple of years to head west. Till then I'm just happy goin' fishin' in Duck.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Sacrificing the garden budget for vacation? Yikes, I'm not there yet...LOL

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Yeah, that does sound rather painful huh? < ='(

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Not so much the budget as caring for the plants for 6 weeks while we tramp across the county. So instead of filling the GH with annuals that will need to be cared for we can save those $$ for the trip. Spend one summer with minimal gardens.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

The sligo trail deer are tame. No fear of dogs or people.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

that's kind of funny

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Checking in again. Thanks, speedie for getting Gita caught up on the lost purse incident.

I love all your ideas of places to go. I love Anne of Green Gables, too.

Hehehehe, sacrificing garden budget for travel is frightening. That is the reason I am slowly switching to shrubs, etc. that can fend for themselves. With kids all over the country we DO like to travel.

Spent the night on Wichersham Dome north of Fairbanks to experience the summer solstice. About 150 miles short of the Arctic Circle. Should have checked the weather before we headed out yesterday. We got part way up the Dalton Highway(ice road trucker road) before we turned around. The rain looked like it was settling in and the gravel road just didn't sit well with us. Today is a relaxing day in Fairbanks. They are having a Midnight sun festival. Just checking in on Day 12.

The enclosed garden was at Rika's roadhouse. She was able to grow a lot of food from that garden to supple the kitchen at the roadhouse. Apparently the university studied her methods.

The mosquito is made from burls. Thought you'd get a kick out of that. They do kind of swarm on you, but thankfully aren't that big.

Will check in again when we get to Anchorage.
