Glad it all went well Catmint! Slow and steady wins the race.
Your neck of the Woods Part 10 Memorial Day
I don't really remember, it's been quite a few years but I think he was pretty happy. I remember when he got his cataracts done that made a huge difference.
Catmint, OH, I had NO idea you were having this surgery!! (how on earth did I miss THAT!?!?!) I'm really glad that things are healing along well so far, and that in just ONE day you already notice a decrease in the pain. Gita, no corrections needed to what you said, but just a little addition... not only could the increased pressure from bending cause a popped suture, more importantly it could cause the bursting of teeny tiny little blood vessels around the eyes. Of course we all know that we need blood to circulate to an 'injured' area so it can heal, but if a blood vessel bursts, that could not only slow down the healing process, but it could end up in a blood clot. (just a little "scab", if you will.. but on the inside) So Cat, DEFINITELY PLEASE follow your Dr's instructions!!!!!!!!!! Go ahead and spread that milky spore, but get someone ELSE to lift that bag and pour it into the spreader for you!!!!!!! Strolling along behind a spreader will be safe! =)
Thanks, all! Your support means a lot! :-) Speedie, I did not mention it because I tend not to mention things like this! :-( I barely mentioned it to anyone except the people I asked to drive me there and back. Even my daughter--on Tuesday (their last day of school) she asked if a friend could come spend the night last night and I was like, 'No, actually I have surgery that afternoon,' and she was like, 'Mo-om, you have surgery??' I don't have a good explanation for why I do this...
Okay, I will keep what you have said about stress and blood clots in mind and try to be good!! SSG is an angel sent from heaven and has offered to come over this afternoon to help--thanks, Terri! :-)
This morning it is less painful and less blurry, so that is progress! I still look a sight, though--LOL!

Just tell anybody- You should see the OTHER guy (a la Steve Buscemi, in the movie 'Fargo')
Aww that's sweet of SSG! Glad it went well Cat.
I hope that you continue to feel much better each day, Cat. So happy that you shared this with us to help make future decisions if necessary. We teach, share and learn sooo much here!!

LOL Sally--I loved that movie--talk about dark humor!
thanks, all--and you are so right, Roses! :-) Yes, I'm glad I could share this here with you all.
Holly and Ric, I recommend doing this Frankenstein post-surgery look sometime when you're *not* planning to see the grans! Although I'm sure they will love you anyway! :-) My daughter's actually being very sweet and kind about it.
it's a little scary to see a parent vulnerable.
I hope that you continue to feel much better each day, Cat. So happy that you shared this with us to help make future decisions if necessary. We teach, share and learn sooo much here!!
Well said Roses!
I don't scare easily so a Bloodroot delivery or meetup sure is a possibility Sat/Sun, LMK And any thing you need to fill in your garden from down my way!
Sally--yes! I am trying to be as 'normal' as possible in my activities so my daughter doesn't worry.
Coleup--I would totally love a bloodroot delivery and the happiness of sharing my garden with you sometime this weekend! :-) We have no plans/ commitments except that Sat evening DD has her music recital (time to wear sunglasses inside!).
I am trying to be as 'normal' as possible in my activities so my daughter doesn't worry.
Daughters always 'worry' about Moms! It's a good thing to have compassion and concern for others. We are all in this together! With my daughter, I found that acknowledging my limitations and need for help and assistance to be not only good for me speaking up about my 'needs' and asking for help and accepting it as an adjunct to my 'normal' iron woman stance which in many ways kept others at a distance protectively where they couldn't hurt me, but to be exactly what my daughter needed too, as it was an honest acknowledgement and validation of her feelings rather than a dismissal or discounting,
All of us care givers need to practice the art of care receiving and keep the seed bank of caring alive and well for all of us. No man is an island! And Mothers Day is not a date in May! Go Katie go!
thanks, Coleup--that is a good reminder! I think we get so into being strong for our children we forget that sometimes.
And now I went out to mow the back yard and all the bugs in the yard seemed to smell the stitches and dash for my eyes while I was mowing, and now I have numerous bug bites. Okay, guess that was not so smart but I didn't even think of that. Now I feel for all the wounded animals out there--biting bugs love those wounds!! :-o Maybe I need to get some protective glasses with long netting till this is healed! :-D well, time for a cold compress...
(I almost got the back yard done before the battery died after about 45 minutes...)
Yes, bee keepers gear or a pith helmet with netting! Actually when I have had to work around plants and loose soil and dust, etc irritants to my eyes I wore goggles (safety goggles) that completely enclosed my eyes so they could heal. Lots of nasties blowing around garden centers where I 'merchandised' plants day in and day out.
Ptosis runs in our family, my grandfather had surgery for it as well as my dad. My uncle has it, but I'm not sure about his 4 sons, they are younger than I. Since mine has not been an issue as yet, my Dr. recommended waiting till I need cataract surgery, when it will be likely to be more of a success.
What's this about bloodroot? I ordered 3 from Spring Hill, I think, and none have shown any sign of life.

yes, it does seem to run in families, Ric! My brother and I sometimes joke about who got which 'bad' genes in the family. He doesn't seem to have the ptosis, but at least I didn't get the hiatal hernia problems! ;-)
Yikes, Catmint! DH always wears safety goggles when mowing. There are some stylish looking ones out there now.
thanks, Coleup and SSG. Guess I should look for some safety goggles to wear over my glasses!!
Ha Ha Ric. I procured 5 Bloodroot plants at a local native plant sale this Spring. I got 5 plants that were dug from a local garden because I saw that they were on someones Want List for Swap. Shall I put your name on remaining two? At least if they go dormant you will have my word that they were alive this spring! Also picked up some Jeffersonian Twin Leaf.....and some more Lady's Tresses! (I told you all I wanted to be a Plant Hunter....it's just I have a limited range to collect from!)
LOL Catmint, I quite often forget what a big difference my hair color change made. When Gran Lucas 4yr first saw me it took him awhile to realize who I was. LOL
I just read on GardenRant that Kurt Bluemel passed away.
http://gardenrant.com/2014/06/kurt-bluemel-rest-in-peace.html
Very sorry to hear about this. I will have to drive by his property as I only live about 20 minutes away from Baldwin. I had no idea he was so close!
Rick, I got some bloodroot and hepatica from American Meadows last spring. None of the 3 bloodroots came up and 2 of the hepaticas did but only two leaves. To my surprise the hepaticas came back this year but only the same two leaves....Lol I bought 2 blood root this year, one from a local plant faire and another from Munchkin Nursery I think. Both are still kickin it. I also bought two Jeffersonia from Lazy S&S and some Hepatica from Munchkin too.
Holly---
I like your hair better in the soft blonde colors.
With shades of gentle brown and dappled gray.
Just my 2 cents...doesn't mean anything....
I often wonder what I will do with my hair when it needs coloring????
So far--it's still about 80% my natural color. Never have done anything to it..
The gray around my face is spreading--I dab some "Fanciful Rinse" on it after a shampoo.
It lasts about 2 days....;o) Whoopie!
G.
Gita, When the boys (sons) first saw it they both laughed and said "Really Mom". I did have red hair when I was younger, it was red when Ric and I first met. It got browner & grayer as I aged. Just felt like something different one of these days I will get tired of bothering with it and back it will go.
I went gray young like my mother and have been coloring it for many years. However, I just recently decided to try letting it grow out and go gray--just because it takes a 3-hour block of time to go to the hairdresser and get it done, not to mention the money, and I just can't keep up with it right now. So au naturale, here I come!!
Catmint, you're braver than I!! My mom was totally white/grey as far back as I remember. I've dyed mine myself for about twenty years.
I've never trusted myself to do the coloring myself--I'm always certain I'd just make a big mess...
My sister had done hers so she did me first ,,I was scared!
yeah, my brother was just never up for that sort of thing! LOL
Haahahahaahaahahaaaaaaaaaaa Catmint!! < =D But, why not!?!? ;)
I'm so glad to hear that your healing is coming along so well - less blurriness and less pain. WAAAHOOOOOEEEEE!!!!!! And, speaking of protective eyewear that can be worn over top of glasses... check this out: http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/fit-over-goggles.html Some really cool-looking ones on here. Actually, I should get a pair for myself; I'm finding that I LOVE wearing these glasses more than my contact lenses; would love some protective "shades" of some sort to wear over them.
Meanwhile... was it a spectacularly GORGEOUS day today or what!?!? WOW, what a beautiful day!! =)
thanks, Speedie! I went ahead and ordered something from Amazon, so next time I mow the lawn all the little bugs and blades of grass won't fly into my eyes!
Looks like a nice weekend ahead of us and then more rain on Monday--perfect timing! :-)
Perfect timing for sure! What all do you have planned to do outside this weekend? I've got this HORRID "patch" of honeysuckle-gone-wild one one side of the end of the driveway that I'm gonna tackle tomorrow - wish me luck! Then I think I'll pot up some Coleus, inspect the Irises, install some Poblano peppers,.. and whatever other miscellaneous putterings I'm in the mood for. =)
Miscellaneous puttering sounds about right! :-) I also need to up-pot my indoor container plants--some begonia and fuchsia.
Sure wish I could come down and give you a hand with that honeysuckle, Speedie!
Aaawww, that's so sweet of you, thank you! I wish I could head up there and give you a hand with EVERYthing you've got to do! =)
Miscellaneous puttering can be so much fun! (and it sounds funner than "weeding") ;)
cat---
HD/Lowes/Ace sell all sorts of safety glasses--no need to go to Amazon---
unless you prefer shopping on-line....
I am sure you knew that...it is just that I never buy anything on-line..
I like shopping...and seeing the merchandise.....and getting what I want
as cheaply as i can.
G.
thanks, Gita. For me, online shopping works well because it saves me time-- plus I get free shipping with my Prime membership. And usually I'm happy with what I get. My daughter is harder to shop for online than I am--for her we're likely to need to go to the store. But most of the time it's all I can do to keep up with my life, so saving time on shopping is a godsend for me.
I love shopping online, we too have Prime, and when on Ebay I usually check free shipping.
Glad to hear the eyes are doing Okay.
And yes coleup you could save me those bloodroot, when I ordered mine there were 3, I thought great, 2 for me, 1 to swap. Moral is, don't count your bloodroot before they hatch.
LOL Ric! :-D
Going out for lunch with a friend today then off to watch her grandchildren play ball. Her daughter posted a pic of Pattie playing ball and I thought it might be fun for the two of us to go watch. Not thinking that she has two children so I am in for a double header + J suggested lunch so what I was thinking would be a couple of hours of fun turned into a whole day of fun. No gardening for me today.
Hehehe, but it will be fun. Maggie had a Tball game Thursday night and Jeff brought her cousins up which surprised her. Maybe because of that Miss M was singing on the field. She is completely clueless about the game. Then again , she is only 6.
