Getting the van packed with plants. Gita was right, there is no way I could have brought her and her friend Tammy and all her plants too- they will follow. Swap Plants do not pack efficiently!
Apologies in advance for any baby earwigs you may find from my plants- yuck!!!!! hope they all abandoned ship when I picked them up and shook them.
I have to stop playing with plants, and go play "Do you have your black shoes, Where's the shirt an tie? How you taking that cap and gown and not messing it all up?"
Your neck of the Woods Part 10 Memorial Day
Sally---Haaa..Haaa....I knew it...
We think we will just have a few things--and then they multiply like bunnies...
I have everything boxed--and out on the lawn by the back of my car.
Don't want to pack it in yet...too hot...It will be a SLEW!!!
Here is a picture of logistics... Mind you--the 5 Yaku Rhodos, Davids big pot of
Persian Cornflower--and Terri's beautiful-to-be Night Blooming cereus
are all already in the car. Where?--you ask??? Between the backs of the front seats
and the folded down back seats. Where someone sitting in the back would put their feet.
Jammed? Yup! The Rhodos can take some "jamming"--that is how they come in on the carts.
May the"ant Faeries" help me find room for all the boxes.....WHEW!
See you tomorrow, Sally. G.
We just finished loading the truck, so no more request unless it's a pick-up order. I'm glad I have an extended cab so the cooler will fit, and I did save a seat for Holly. Hopefully we'll get an early start and have a pleasant ride down. Holly watered everything before loading it so the truck sits 3"s lower.I've been down to the barn twice now and forgotten the chairs both times, maybe the third time is the charm.
OK so what non-plant, non-food, non-family items should I be bringing? Folding chairs, deet bug spray. Should I bring a folding table?
Sally, Gita or Catbird, what time are you meeting up in the morning?
Sweet, thanks Typ, I forgot I needed to bring a couple chairs.
Judy--
We were talking about 9:30AM.
I will be driving my own car--stuffed to the gills, and following Sally--she has a GPS.
I will have Tammy riding with me. She is coming for the 1st look-see
what we are all about. She is not bringing anything--unless she changes her mind...
She was talking about digging up some Phlox. We will see....
I have been inviting her for a couple of years...but she could never get off work.
I will drop off your stuff--as well as whatever i have for Sally.
PHEW!!!! How on Earth do i accumulate all these plants?????????????
Good night,,,,Gita
Judy, what exactly what were the nine plants you gave me?
Ha Ha Ha I thought there were ten! If they were in a very l o n g plastic bag (newspaper wrapper), they are the Tropical Milkweed, Asclepias currasavica. They grow as an annual here and if wintered over will continue to bloom in your GH or a sunny window. They can be cut back to make bushier and cuttings will readily make roots in soil or water. They also do well in containers, are attractive to many pollinators and of course host to Monarch butterfly cats. They are less finicky than A tuberosa which I won't have til the Fall. Deer don't like them but Hummingbirds do!

Mow, Mow, Mow your boat, Oh my!!! wrong tune. I mow, I mow, it's off to work I go. The weekly chores begin already, I should have remained at Aspenhill.
No chores for me or "the crew" today. Mike and I have been relaxing down at the dock enjoying yet another beautiful weather day. Lowell and Suzanne went to the "Lazy River" water park nearby in Leesburg. It feels kind of strange to not be doing anything. I always wish our get togethers lasted longer than a few hours. In fact, I wish you all were here today to hang out at the pond with me!
Ahhh, Terri--That WOULD be nice,,,,Truly.....
Gita
Agreed!!!.
Relaxing on that dock sounds like a really good time! It was so beautiful out there.
coleup, you should put all your plants in newspaper bags then everybody would always know who gave them....
I'm happy to be left with the picture of you relaxing, finally, Terri. I watched you walk a million miles back and forth on Saturday and it made MY feet hurt !!
WHOA!!!! 3" long? I have no idea.
ewwwww
lol you guys! At first I thought it might be a moth since it was sitting below the outside light but it turns out it is a giant Eyed Click Beetle! Imagine the sound one this size makes if it has to right itself... Good to know that there are multiple ways to get from flat on one's back even if legs are too short and there are no branches (or hands) to grasp or unlike turtles one cannot venture to stick ones neck out far enough to do the trick and a flood isn't imminent or the wind doesn't pick up or....

Cool!!! POP goes the beetle
I saw a *huge* dragonfly on my weeping cherry a couple days ago. I guess he was feasting on bugs or something good like that, but boy was he ugly and a little scary looking! :-o
awesome click beetle!!!!!Elateridae, I can still hear my ENTM 101 teacher enunciating
OK waiting now for oupatient surgical procedure on my eyes. Hope they're not bandaged for too long-- I have my plant addiction to feed-- LOL.
Good luck on the surgery, I had my cataracts taken care of a few years ago. So much better now. I hope your issue is easily fixed and heals quickly
Praying it goes well, catmint, and that you can see those plants you're getting..
This is just beautiful

Beautiful video Holly!
Best wishes for you Cat!
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! Beautiful video
thanks, all for your good wishes! It went reasonably well today although I was pretty miserable doing it as outpatient surgery--if I ever have to do something like this again I'm going to go to the hospital and getting properly sedated! :-o Came home and slept off the meds, but boy are my eyes sore now--also very puffy and red and Frankensteinish. Good thing I planned this for *after* the swap!
The surgery was because I have a medical condition called ptosis which means my eyelids droop more and more as I get older, and it was interfering with my vision, so insurance paid for them to do surgery on my eyelids. ow, ow, ow. Blurry right now but at least I can see. They say it will take a couple weeks for the swelling to go down.
I took tomorrow off from work. I'm hoping I feel well enough to get some stuff done in the yard... Although bizarrely enough, they told me to be careful about 'bending and lifting' while it heals. Not sure what the connection is to my eyes!!
Anyway, thanks for your well wishes! I just keep telling myself it will be better in the long run!!
Ric will be getting that one of these days, too. His aren't quite blocking his eye sight but getting close.
gee, never heard of it, never noticed you guys had it, and there are two in this small group.
Cat--
I remember that Jackie Kennedy's husband, Ari, also had that done.
He sure had a droopy, wrinkled face and eyes. Don't ask me WHY I remember it....
Bending over and lifting heavy things creates stress in the blood vessels
in the head and face. Which could--possibly, pop any stitches...
Speedie will correct me if i am wrong....she was a nurse at one time.
Be good! don't garden just yet....as that includes bending over.
G.
Holly I'll let you know how the healing process works out! Right now it is less painful than earlier today as they predicted but boy do I look a sight! Definitely best to plan it when social obligations are minimal... :-o
Gita thanks for that explanation! I think it's going to be hard for me to be a good patient on this one! I still need to get the milky spore on the front lawn!

Ric's Dad had the surgery quite a few years ago.
Holly how did Ric's dad feel about the outcome? Was he happy with it? How long did it take for him to heal completely?
It's a good thing he was aware of it back then. My mother desperately needs it-- she now looks out of tiny openings in her lids--but I know she never will do it.

Catmint, I hope you have a speedy recovery! I'm done early tomorrow, so let me know if you need any help with any lifting or digging. My mom needs to go for ptosis surgery soon, so I'm interested in how the surgery went for you.

Catmint, I'm glad you're feeling improved already; tomorrow will probably be noticeably better yet.
SSG, I would totally love to have you come over--would be great to see you! :-) Although I am definitely a sight to scare small children! :-o
thanks, Sally! :-)

Praying your eyes will have a restful night. Please, listen to the doctor's orders about bending and lifting. Don't want to jeopardize the recovery.
