Spring Plant Swap 2014 in Lucketts, VA - Part 2

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oooh, Muddy, sweet Muddy.... Could I please have some "Cream Violet" (sounds so lovely!) and a piece of your Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet'? Thanks!

I stuck some more cuttings yesterday... Clematis montana rubra (altogether in a big pot, hoping at least a couple will actually root this time!), variegated Wiegelia, and a couple of Japanese dappled willow (name is around somewhere). Will try to get cuttings of coral honeysuckle today (sure needs whacking back -- pruning is just not a sufficient word), and David I've got your name on some of those.

Is anybody interested in the other honeysuckle I have against the house -- Lonicera americana? Blooms early & heavily, shades of cream/pink/gold. I'll stick a couple of cuttings regardless but will try harder if there's interest LOL.

Joyanna helped me pot up a bunch of Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) seedlings that I'll use for an intermittent hedge along the disturbed back line, but I didn't even pull up half of what I've allowed to grow in the fence bed... Let me know if you want some (and how many). I've been putting 3 "whips" or 1 "specimen" (starting to branch) per pot. I like the full multi-trunk look of planting them in multiples, but a single trunk may be better for smaller gardens. Obviously, they will self-sow, so you've been warned. Color unknown.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Muddy, the cream violet does sound lovely! Could I have some also, please?

Critter, I'd love to try some of your Lonicera x Americana!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, Cat, I'll stick a few cuttings when i whack it back. Its growth habit is thuggish, but it doesn't mind being chopped back, and it is really pretty in bloom... usually seems to start blooming around when our hummers arrive, which is nice.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

thanks, Critter--nothing like a thug for my difficult to grow spots! :-)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Speaking of real, true thugs, I spotted a little Sweet Autumn Clematis in my side bed, but it's not one I'd recommend for most locations -- took me a couple tries to get rid of the parent!

On a "personal shopper" front, I picked up a couple extra 22" containers earlier this spring at Costco when they were $2 off, making them $17 with tax. Dibs to anybody without ready access to a Costco... ?

And if anybody is interested in Dahlias or glads, speak up before I plant mine -- I have more than I need, for sure, but once they are in the ground I'm not digging them back up! See the ADR group buy thread in this forum for links, details.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Gardadore, I'd love one or more Centaurea montana babies, please! I do have one, so dibs to anybody who lacks them, but mine has not given me any babies to put around...

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill, I would like some of the coral honeysuckle.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Jill, I'd like some coral honeysuckle if you can get one to root for me. Thanks..Teri

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'll stick a bunch of coral honeysuckle cuttings and cross my fingers... for some reason, I have mixed success with those.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Let's hope for the best!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Hello all...please count me in. Might have nephew and girls in tow (if ok)...will know better here shortly. Have missed everyone and can't wait to see you all!!! Hugs

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

Critter, I'll put you down for Cream Violet and Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet'.
CatMint, Cream Violet for you.
The violet is a lovely, no-care plant and has the makings of a great groundcover.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

thanks, Muddy--sounds pretty!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Chantell, I am so glad to hear that you will be coming! It has been too long, and it will be great to see you.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

I know this might sound strange but what is your street address? We have never been to your house and I need to determine how long a trip we'll have from Carlisle, Pa. Thanks!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Judy, I'll send it to you in dmail. Will do a dmail blast to everyone too with address and phone numbers when I get back from my 8:00 meeting...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

For a general idea of timing, Aspenhill is just around the corner (and up the mountain) from Lucketts, VA.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Terp, with a little "luck" oregano can be annual, just sayin'...

Anyone want a rooted sucker of white heirloom lilac originally from 'hart' who grew it in a colder zone than mine.?

happy I still have that bottlebrush buckeye, you still want? David's getting one also.

Holy I have that chocolate orchid Sharry Baby for you, since you guys were so nice as to gift me the blue pot I liked. Also two tiny individual pseudobulbs of the same with their new growth starting. anybody?

Three pots of a monster native goldenrod- but aren't all native goldenrod something of monster? Seven feet of bliss for pollinators.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Sally, I'd like that rooted sucker of white lilac if not spoken for yet.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally, I'd like to try that goldenrod to hide the compost bin. Do they tolerate wet soil?

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

SSG most Goldenrods do well with moist soil. Suggestions are to plant it on a raised mound as they also like good drainage.

Sally. I have a place for the other two if no other takers.

The Goldenrods I hope to have available from my North Creek orders are
'Fireworks'
'Little Lemon'
caesia (needs shade)
'Golden Fleece'
and possibly Seaside Goldenrods (sempervirens)

Goldenrods are primary nectar soures for migrating Monarchs and all fall pollinators as their blooms are rich in high quality lipids.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I have a few Phlox stolonifera 'Bruce's White' that I saw during this weekend's yardening that I am adding to my available list.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Can't wait to see Gardadore again it has been so long since I've seen her.
Do we want to move our arbor discussion to the old projects thread Fall 2013 it's not very long or maybe I could start another newer thread? Here is the older one. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1337916/
Catmint, Yes definitely native. I have them but I dug them from the woods at Cricket's house.
Yes I would like some Asclepias currasavica. We are getting one from Coleup but I know they would be great for my daughters new Butterfly Garden, the Grands will love it. Thanks.
Speedie we will miss you, maybe you will beable to make it to the Fall Swap.
Paul, I have some cuttings in a bucket now and hope they will be rooted for the swap. For those of you that haven't seen them they are a really different plant.
I only have the Blue Crested Iris
Sally, Thanks I forgot about that. Oh I have a new Orchid very fragrant and I think it can be divieded would you like one? I'll post a pic in the House plants thread later.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh, Sally and you other coleus growers, I would like a few of whatever coleus you bring that are different than the ones I am growing, please.
Gita, Can you root me some of the solid green Swedish Ivy if you still have it?
Did someone want Cordyline? I think I specifically talked to someone quite awhile ago about them.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Paul, I have some white crested iris that I planted ages ago deeper in the woods than where I've planted most everything else - they aren't in a good spot and haven't bloomed for years. I'm going to go ahead and dig them up and move them to a better location. I'll pot a few up for you - maybe being moved will give them the lift they need.

I also have two noid hellebores up for grabs. They are likely seedlings from 'Pine Knot Farms Select Strain', but not sure.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Holly, Gita posted this on the Part One thread, so I'll just in case repost it here:

"Gitagal wrote:I have made some small changes to my YUK bed .

Dug out the "nepeta--whatever"--a Cat mint--and potted it up in some pots.
A big one--and a couple smaller ones. These will be available--after they "perk up" a bit.
In that place went the short Goldenrod I bought.

Dug away some divisions from my new England Aster too. Lots of them!
Hard---b/c these multiply by root runners. Tried to get some roots with each one.
Right now--they are still "pouting"....but will perk up in time.
Wanted to make the clump smaller...and will have some to share.

Potted up 5 pots of FMN's--they are blooming away. Will share.

Have 2 pots of "Amaranth Hot Biscuit" I grew from seed...after looking at the pictures--
I don't want it. Too big for my garden. Don't care for the yellow--looks dirty...
The seedlings are already 6" tall--have staked them. Dibs?

MY double yellow Rudbeckia Hirta seedlings ALLcame up. They are all coming along--
under lights--still quite small--but there will be lots available.

I am sure there will be Coleus galore to share.....Considering whether to pinch them
again or not...they are--like--almost full size now. Hard to decide...

Will have 4 small, all green, Hostas from last year. The "Green Fountain" ones.
They are cute and small now...maybe 4"- 5" or so. Came through the winter OK.

Will be digging up a clump of Stellas--to plant a fern I dug up in place of them.
Also--a clump of Tete-a-Tetes right next to it. Gone!
Will plant a Brunnera I got in their places.. It needs to get planted!

Anyway--I am sitting here--mentally trying to think what I have for the swap.
I still need to post them in "my haves"--but will be too short of time this week.
Daughter and her SO arrive Wednesday. I work Tues, and Wed,---nothing is tidied up.

I don't think I want to sit here for hours reading DG--but will when they are running around.
I want to not stress out while they are here--ONLY one week!!...and it is over Mothers Day
to boot--which day I am also working 9-6--and will spend half the day doing my
"Kiddies planting a flower for their Moms" Clinic. I am prepared for 100 kids
to take part in this. It is MY "baby to do....3rd year....
They all will be making me dinner while i am at work---Yummm....

SO--I will be very busy and tired too....
Please do not overwhelm me yet with Swap requests. After the 17th--OK! Please!

****tonight's temps will go down to 43* here....get your tender plans covered or stashed
somewhere....***** Days will be fine.

Gita"

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Just a reminder for those of you wanting soil mixes, I will be updating availability and possibly prices later this week. I will be keeping the business of that on a separate thread.

I have at least one rooted climbing hydrangea. I may have more will know tomorrow. They like shade and need something substantial to grow on.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh no!! Chantell - how will you manage without Tweedledee at your side?? If anyone has an iPad or iPhone, y'all better facetime me!!!

Since this is on the 30th I'll be lounging by a pool at a villa in Orlando - probably no cabanaboys to serve me frozen libations...but, I'm sure I can whip up a Pina Colada or 3 and toast y'all!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes! She can whip up a Pina Colada---and--even without looking.....
Remember this??? At one of Jill's earliest Swaps....

Jill--whatever has happened to Bobbie? ("miatablue")

Wanna see "happy"----welll--happy? She won a plant..

This was at the fall Plant Swap at Jill's--in 2010.

Ahhh....memories....G.

I don't know what kind of fern this is, but I'll bring some to the swap if anyone is interested. It thrives and multiplies like rabbits just about everywhere - part-sun, shade, wet, dry, you name it. It is deciduous.

Hay scented fern?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I know Bec...not sure what I'll do...swap some plants for you???? Take pics....curse you for being poolside without me with a Pina Colada!!!! LOVE YOU

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm thinking all three!!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally: I thought I had responded earlier, but in any event I would definitely like your bottlebrush buckeye(s)!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Muddy, I'd love a piece of that fern, please! Anything for shade/part-shade that multiplies like rabbits sounds very good to me... I've got too much bare ground back there... it was the "burning zone" for years of chemical warfare against the poison ivy.

I saw Bobby (Maitablu) some time ago at a local restaurant... she said she'd been intending to resurface here, since she was getting back into gardening after a hiatus, but she's sill awol!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I have several nice plants from Maitablu. Always enjoyed seeing her.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm going to dig up the rest of the baby raspberries that have spread. Anyone else interested?

Any interest in the baby aloe pup?

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I think my fern might be New York fern, if not, something in that family. I'll pot some for you, Critter.
SSG, I'll take some raspberries; thanks.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Got you down for raspberries!
