2014 N Central TX RU May 18th (Arlington) TRADE THREAD #1

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Gardeners, please post a wish list even if you dont have anything to trade. If I have it or can get it, I'll bring it. Dont wait until last moment. I need time to do that. Dont just say "anything" because we dont know what you already have.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Marty, you are so sweet and thoughtful, thinking of everyone, I need to get my act together, but my many projects keep running, I promise I will get a list up soon.

Arlington, TX

Sheila Engel man daisy is nearly impossible to dig up and have it survive. I grew some from seed last year and they are super easy that way. I hate to say this but I pulled up one lone seedling last week and tossed it! I'll be on the look out for more.
C

Dallas, TX

Covenant - if you have extra yellow irises, save a few for me. I always want irises. Often have some to give away. Just liberated a few more yesterday.

Frostweed - I don't think it's unreasonable to ask guests to pay. After all, we're not talking about a fortune. I can maybe contribute a little extra if needed.

I can probably get flats. Turned one down just yesterday. I'll look to see if it's still curbside. I did get a bunch of 4" plastic pots from same people.

Can anyone tell me how elderberry grows? I seem to be reading conflicting info.

(Carol) Euless, TX(Zone 8a)

Marty - thank you so much for the elderberry. Could I also get a few coleus (varied) and another magenta LA Iris (the one you gave me last year just bloomed and is LOVELY!) Please let me know if I can bring anything for you.

Flowerchild - Yes, I have lots of yellow irises. I'll bring you some. May I have a square suet feeder please? My birds love suet.

Dallas, TX

Covenantgarden - You may have 1 square suet feeder and more suet feeders if you like.
About the hollyhock seeds. My neighbor's hollyhock grows over my fence but I'm guessing that I would need to look for seeds after the blooms fall onto my yard. Correct?

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Elderberry grows very vigorously! Mine went from a 3 inch cutting to 12 feet tall in about 2 years. It also tries to spread, although mowing down or pulling the runners seems to keep it in check.

Dallas, TX

Thanks for the info Dennis. I'm gonna dwell on it for awhile.

Ilovejesus99, wow your seed list is straight off my wishlist.. or I already have it.. either way, get outta my head!! LOL! I understand if I ask for too much, I'd be super happy with just one or two:

Cherokee Bean
Parrot lily
Evergreen wisteria
White snakeroot (my WS seeds never sprouted)
Red castor bean

I browsed your want list and will try and root you a few 'hot lips' salvia cuttings, try being the key word, I need to work on my rooting skills..

Sheila & Dennis - The Lyre Leaf Sage that I think I got from Sheila last fall is blooming! I would love to have another one. I see where you both have them listed. Sure would like another since this first one has done so well. I also see that ILoveJesus has seeds for it but seeds scare me - - - I'm too inexperienced. Dennis - are you offering the plant or the seeds?

Dallas, TX

Sheila - Can I have a West TX Mist Flower please?

Dallas, TX

Stephanie - I noticed that you wanted coffee grounds so I went ahead and updated my list to note that I'll be bringing you some.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Ask away....Noone could ask for too many as I have tons of almost all of them. Probabbably 98% of them I could furnish a couple 100 people. Ask for 1 of each or 2 of each if that is what you would like.

I will get my plant and cuttings list I will have hoepfully this evening. Had company and have a few things to do then relax and play with plants :)

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Sheila, could I get 1 or2 Rudbeckia?

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

I have lyre leaf sage plants. I have two varieties. One is green with purple veining, and the other is completely purple.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I have the one with purple veining and it is gorgeous. Id like one of the all purple ones Dennis if you have enough.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

tx_flower_child, would you happen to have any clay pots? If so, I'd love a few of those, maybe a hanging planter if you still have any to spare at the end?

Dennis, that antelope milkweed volunteers all through our property, do they transplant okay? I can bring you a few if they do. I'd love one of your sedum, one that's hardy here, if possible?

Sheila, can I claim one of your frostweed? That is one of my biggest wants, ever since I first laid eyes on its winter display! My 13 year old will trip..

Covenant, I would love one of your orange Stuttgart canna, that foliage is beautiful, even if it's not very variegated.

ilovejesus99, if you really do have that much seed to spare, yes I'd be ever so grateful for 2 of each of those, the evergreen wisteria and cherokee bean especially!

Okay, sorry to be a hog there y'all, I am definitely the fat kid going back for seconds on cake, eh? LOL 😁

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Yes you can have 2 of each. mmm I love cake :)

My list is updated in the original spot and I may have something you would like :)

Does anyone have P. foetida? I had mine in a large pot and it didn't come back after the hard winter.

I really really really want 2 or 3 Brown turkey figs. 2 years ago I had pneumonia and couldn't pick them, last year out of town moving my David here for 2 months. And my neighbor sold his house and the new neighbor cut it off to the ground. Tried to root some and no luck :(

2 for me and 1 for a friend if anyone has any.

Lowes wants 20 dollars for 1 yikes!!

This message was edited May 2, 2014 11:13 AM

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sandy, I will bring the Figs for you.

Dallas, TX

DENNIS - I had to look at my lyre leaf sage again to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. When I first took it outside (in shade) the leaves were green with reddish (maybe what you say is purple) veining. Now, the leaves are completely green. I'm like, huh? I would say that the flowers are blue, at least to my eyes. So I will take either of the ones that you have. If you have enough, I'd love 1 of each. Then I can do a science experiment. Maybe even change my name to Linnaeus.

SWPD & ILJ99 - You may each have a hanging pot. And see note below about clay, etc. pots.

ALL - I'm getting lost as to who wants pots. Just know that I'll be bringing a number of clay and the black 'plastic' pots. I'm going to do a search for flats later, maybe even today.

SHEILA - scratch hollyhock seeds off your list of what you're giving me. Someone somewhere was asking for hollyhock seeds and I was just asking about how one collects them. Sorry if I confused you.

I've seen a few other things on peeps' giving lists but will have to go back later to do a better job of note taking. Also, if I inadvertently left off a promised item from my Giving or Receiving Lists, just let me know.

And did someone say something about cake?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Cheryl, I would like a couple fame flower. Can you name a native you might be wishing for?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Baja, do you already have firespike? if not, I will bring you a couple. It blooms red tubular flowers about the time the humming birds come thru in the fall.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Sandy, would you like some knock out roses? I have red or pink. They have lots of roots and I just up sized their pot.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

BajaBlue - I can get you opuntia paddles. Both spineless and spiky as heck. Sorry, don't know the proper names for either.. I also have a few mother of thousands kalanchoe seedlings I can pot up for you if you like. I'd love one of your Archduke rose cuttings, if you have enough. Also what types of peppers do you have? All my ghost and fish pepper seedlings croaked :(

SheilaFW - I don't know if winecups transplant well but I'll try some for you, same for the milkweed vine. Is it the Purple star milkweed you're talking about? Matelea biflora?

Okay I have two sort of out there wishes, though both are native to TX and one is apparently common some places I can't find them.
