CLOSED: 2014 Spring Round Robin Seed Swap - On the Wing (page 2)

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Amanda,
I was shocked to see the Spring Robin is just making it back to you. I haven't been keeping up with this thread but seems to me that it was one slow flight!
I sure hope you decide to do the Fall Robin, but I think everyone would understand if you said you had had enough.
Personally, I feel the Fall Robin is the important one, but heck you're getting seeds for next year now with the Spring Robin!
Well, let us know where you stand on it, I appreciate all the time and effort you've put into this. And just think if you ever need a reference you have all of us to write letters about your greatness as our seed leader.

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

All the grasshoppers will be bowing down to the Master....congrats on your achievement Amanda. Now go defend the h - e - double hockey sticks out of it. Then you can leisurely exhale... sit on the couch and eat bonbons all night.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Well I had some help along the way here and acknowledge in particular Stephanie who helped get the bird back off the ground when it crash landed in AL.

Thank you all for participating. It's always been one of my favorite trades of all time and I have Susie to thank for that. :)

We'll post an interest thread in the fall, no matter who ends up hosting.

My master's defense is on Thursday morning this coming week, so thanks in advance Robin and pals - then the "fun" will begin! Still thinking I may be heading west to work, so keep an eye out for my change of address.

Loveya!

Thanks all for playing.
xoxo

Whew the thread is too long. I may or may not (!) start another thread to let us chatter about our seed finds and seed starts.

I am waiting to hear back from Kerrie on destination but from the sound of it the bird will be on my doorstep soon.

Fall (!!!) is just around the corner. I will be finished with my degree on Thursday (!)(up to my eyeballs with angst) and plenty of time then to plan next year's garden. If I'll even be here! I have been thankful and impressed with how my "powerline easement style" garden has taken care of itself this year given my mistreatment. The perennials and annuals all doing their thing unprompted makes my heart a little lighter. :)

Hope you all are enjoying your Tuesday. Hope to have news for you soon. I'm still eager to see what you seed hoarders have stuffed the bird with this time.

FYI - any seed I purge for the fall/winter Robin (if I'm still here!)(around I mean and willing and able) will be those seeds that exceed the 2 year term that we agreed on last season. In other words, seed older than 2011 will be unacceptable. THOSE are the seeds that will be sent to the newbee stash. :D

Alrighty then. Have a pleasant evening.

A.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Amanda, Glad to hear your school went well , yes you get all those seeds ,, he he , my , oh, my ..

How are the rains your way ? gardens are loving it ,,

badcat ,, I need roll you a couple balls of string ,, To keep you all tied up and busy , ^_^ playful kitties ,,lol

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Ju.

Tomorrow is my big day, and I'm procrastinating. At 5 a.m. Ha ha hah

To be clear, the seeds I receive will be sorted. The older (?) seeds will go to the newbie stash. The new, seeds (2012 or better) will remain to be the foundation for the next round robin trade.

I have so many seeds of my own, I wish I had a single box. Does anybody? It would be impossible, yet I hate to toss the old stuff, even though . . ..

Hope all's well. After tomorrow morning I am home free. Think of me. If you are the praying kind, well then . . ... ;)

Thanks.

Hi everyone--

I heard from Kerrie (Chickory31) - NC that the robin was coming my way, but I haven't seen it yet--hoping it arrives today!

Bethw336

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Hey Beth, not sure if you read the above posts, but chicory had been trying to get a hold of you from august 1 - august 5 and never heard back, so I think it's already on its way back to Amanda. But then I could be wrong, I'm just going off what was said right here on this thread..

Amanda, you can do it!!!! And don't feel bad about holding onto seed that's more than two years old, I read recently that older seeds, some species anyway, actually germinate better with age. Something about losing their dormancy? Can't remember exactly but I do recall feeling better about my hoard when I read that. I do understand why older seed isn't allowed in the robin, obviously we want to maintain a certain level of integrity, but don't toss out all your personal stash just because they're pre 2012.

Or if you do, toss them my way ;)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

O I have seeds that are very old Becky so you don't need to worry about me leaving them behind. Particularly if I move from here to find a job - I will need to start another garden. It's so lovely once it's established. oy, till then it's all work and no play.

I believe the robin is on its way to Beth and not me. Sure Kerrie in her wisdom will do the right thing. :D

Beth let us know when it lands, and I will do the same if it shows up here.

Kerrie said she was traveling and may have been set back a day or two for both of our failure to reply to her dmails in a timely fashion. oops.

This is just to let you know that I passed my master's defense yesterday and should be (!?) more available.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Congratulations Amanda :)

All that hard work has finally paid off, relax a little and enjoy the sweet smell of successsss!!

Then yes, go find that dream job! And hope you don't have to restart that garden, what a drag!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Ah yes. The dream job.

In case you missed it, I have a JD and practiced as a civil trial lawyer for 14 years. This degree is a master's degree in Natural Resources.

It might be a challenge to find something suitable very close to home. I just have to keep all my eyes open!

I'm glad I got to stay this summer, even though I didn't do much to help the garden. I'm still waiting for my monarchs to come through. Heaven help them.

hope everyone's enjoyed a good weekend. Should I start a new thread? anyone still on dial-up? Ju? :D

xo
A.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Winston Salem, NC

Hi everyone!

Took a while to get here, but finally, a big, fat robin landed on my doorstep Saturday! I'll be sending it on its way tomorrow. Appreciate all the great seeds--had to flatten the plastic bags to get my seeds in the box!

Thanks for your patience.

Bethw336

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

You're welcome Beth, hope you had fun seed diving!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Huzzah! Bird is back on track. Beth, make sure the next person you send it to (?)(is that me at this point?) is available to receive. :D

Thanks for checking in, Mike. :)

A.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Still nothing from Mike. :/

Please get the bird back up - she sure is tired of flying.

Thanks.

A.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Will have to make good on the hanging in effigy rule up there. There's at least two people on my list right now . . ..

Also - I think a consequence of keeping the bird for a week or two at a time should be exclusion from future Robins.

Can't I make the Rulz up as we go along?

Thanks for playing, but let's get this one over with! I am not sure if there will be a FALL robin as it's almost Fall and the Spring robin has not yet landed on my step. :/

A.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

No joke Amanda?! I figured you had it by now! I think considering your patience through this whole event (or shall I say "ordeal"?), you can make up whatever RULZ necessary to land this poor robin already!

I really do hope there is another robin this fall (I already have a ton of seeds saved up again!), but I understand if there isn't..

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

I've been carefully collecting and packaging all summer. I have no problem with kicking slackers off the list. I'm up to my eyeballs in fresh flower seeds and looking forward to swapping them out.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

You know I'm funny, but I never, ever joke about the bird.

Will have to sic Stephanie on 'em again. :D

(no joke!).

Go Get Em, Amanda!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Amanda making rules as we go is not a bad thing. I understand peeps getting sick or having something happen but there is always time to post something. Most today have phones with internet and it takes maybe at the most 5 min to come say what is happening.

I say ban them as this is serious as like buying on Ebay. Once you commit it is a contract. There are people waiting on this even if it is the last flight it is something to be taken serious. There are pretrades made and seeds to be delivered. WHAT is wrong with some? It you are not a person of integrity DON"T sign up!!!!! And if you do and don't take it serious and get her back in flight be warned you won't see the next.

Most of us gardeners take our word serious and things like this serious. Sorry if I step on your toes Amanda but if I step on someones who won't be in the next one *shrug* not sorry.

(Tracy) Lk Pan, FL(Zone 9a)

I've been watching this thread and have to say that this whole ordeal is such a bummer. I'm at a point in my life where I can work a whole lot less and garden a whole lot more. I just discovered DG and was all excited about getting my name in on the fall robin....but there may not be one! :( And I just moved from zone 5b to 9a!!! I'm planting veggies as we speak! Very sad indeed....

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I get lazy about my trades .. But 95% I have made good , not a pro at such things .
It is plants do not do anything any faster than they do .. ...
I do not keep giant clumps of everything I list , so I get asked sometimes for what I do not have at any given time ,,
Seeds and this Robin trade are different ,, You take a few , you send them on .. you agreed ..
Of course they are more towards the end , it takes longer ..
Most try to comply anyway .. same as sluggish .. with other things to do besides ..

If any body wants a big bag of Zinnia seeds , here shortly in the future . I am going to have bunches this fall .. lol Smaller Marigolds also ..

Still no sign of the Robin.

Don't fret kiddies. The threat to discontinue the Robin is an idle threat at best. Will just have to screen folks better next time.

Still, there are things that come up, but when I started I said I wanted to maintain the integrity of the robin and to have fairness to each other. I feel that ignoring our responsibilities to each other disregards this commitment to integrity and fairness.

I can't very well post a thread for fall if I don't have the spring Robin back, is all!!! :)

It'll get here. Mike's a good guy and I have his phone number here somewhere.

Thanks for your patience.

A.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

FYI - got thru on the telephone to Mike's wife. He has started a new job and I'm guessing seeds aren't a priority.

She should be up in the air soon.

Thanks for playing.

Please accept my sincere apologies everyone. New job working 13 hour days and a swing shift at that. I know I broke the cardinal rule of these amazing swaps and didn't get it back out in time. I thank you all for the amazing amount of time, effort and care put into these and hope I haven't put myself on ya'lls black list.... I will how ever understand it if you do.

Many thanks to you Amanda for hosting and allowing me a spot!

Apologies,

Mike

Hi Amanda -

I see that milkweed pods are mentioned from time to time. Is anybody still seriously interested in them? They are ripe for picking here right now in our lowland marshes, I could send a few if wanted.

Al: I will always take more MW. I send it out to folks for free.

Mike: Thanks for checking in. We have our ways of seeking out and finding you rogue participants. Keeps it interesting.

HA!

Everyone: Well I am holding my breath waiting to hear back on a job interview I had yesterday with The Nature Conservancy. Wouldn't that be cool? Cross your fingers if you can. It's where I see myself being.
