BELLEVILLE, IL(Zone 6b)

I hid rabbit turds in every bag I opened! LOL JK. Loved the goods! Iv been replacing the fence here and been a little occupied doing that. Have not had a chance to start anything yet! I will start seeds this weekend after family goes home. Checked on the seedlings in the basement today and apparently bad things happen when you dont water...!?!? whodathunkit. hoping to bring them back or the last 3 months were for nothing! Ill post my favs soon! xx

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

badcat LOL !!! Well that is one way to get them all off to a good start ,, Or is everyone is going to have to wash their hands of it all ..

I have other things this week , maybe next week I can get to some numerous seed starting .
These past few days I have been replacing earthquake damaged foundation cement blocks .
Cutting cement and rebar takes a while to do .

I am ready to tear it up.

I got to finally unearth most of my beds this weekend, and it's great to see things greening. I lost a few things over the winter, but most things are in good shape.

I have been working on a seed germination mat made out of Christmas rope lights and a 12" shelving board. Pretty easy to make. I made one for myself and one for my Mom, today. I already had the lights, so all I had to buy was a 1"x12"x8' board, 4- 1"x2"x8' furring strips and a few wood screws. About $18 to make 2 seed starter mats that are 42" x 10". Mine may not be as precisely measured as the one on the link is, but I am betting that it will work just the same. Here's the link if you want to make one for yourself. I just thought this was so awesome, I had to try it. All the materials and dimensions are given on the site. FYI- I used the clips that came in my light set rather than buying additional cable clips and it worked just fine. You can get by with less clips than the instructions call for. Be sure to warm up your lights to help them straighten easier, either plug them in for a while beforehand or You could lay them in the sun while you are working on the board, like I did.

Good looking seedlings there! I hope to have some to show off pretty soon.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Thank you nanny , I got a sunflower surprise in that and a wind burned variegated catgrass that I guess I going to have to start another later ,
Good luck with yours ,, keep us updated on how the light heating mat works .. should be interesting !^_^

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Oh I do so love a Science Experiment! I will let you know how the thing works! It does heat up and the fellow that wrote the directions tested it, and it is comparable to the commercial heat mats in warming the soil temperature to optimum germinating temps.
I took a little tour of the yard and stuff is blooming all over!

Aw Badcat, I hope your seedlings are ok. I did the same thing last week. I was so just doing other things that I didn't realize all the cells around the perimeter really dried up until the tiny plants were crispy. Watered them real quick and the rest all perked up so it wasn't a total loss. Good news is it helped I germinate the ponderosa lemon. I thought the seed had rotted away but it's growing like a weed now :))

Nanny, that heat mat is awesome! And very easy on the bankroll, just how I like it LOL

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

It's here! Yee haw! My goal is to have it back in the air by Thursday.

BELLEVILLE, IL(Zone 6b)

J- Lol naughty

Nanny- Thanks for sharing that!!! Seriously, Iv been wanting more mats, but at 20 a pop, i dont need that bad. This would be way better! :D

Becky- I was more worried about the Ghost Chilis! LOL Everything came back thankfully. So far they are the best looking peppers Iv ever seen. 2 more months until they might fruit. Yeehaw. Grats on the Lemon! :)

Iowhen..Oh Iowhen..Did you get lost in the seed box? Glad it landed safely :)

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Yeah Nanny, thanks so much for the info, please let me know how you like it...pro's and con's. Lol, I think I need more than one itty bitty mat, one doesn't quite cut it when my piggy aspirations are so high.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Mipii- I got my seeds today, thanks! That was my thought exactly- one itty bitty mat wouldn't cut it for me either, lol. In fact, I can probably use at least two more of this size, maybe more! That was too good not to share. I was really excited when I found the website. I made two, but gave one to my mom. She was thrilled.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Mipii sent me some of her very nice seeds also ,, thank ye very Kindly Mipii (Robin) ^_^^_^^_^

badcat ; Home fence or Rabbit fence , or is there a difference ?

Good time for water here , lots of rain ...^_^

So I should be able to take a break about Saturday/ Monday...I've been so dang busy..tryin to finish up the bathroom that had been gutted for 18 months, tile the laundry room floor, replace the kitchen counter, sink and faucet, painting, replacing carpetbin the stairs...i need a seed break. Sedum is popping heads. I am very excited to see that. Star magnolia is budding too. Maybe in a week I will see flowers.

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Just checking in, where's the robin?
I've had company for a whole week. It's been fun but draining. Tomorrow I plan on spending the majority of the day playing in the garden and the greenhouse. I bought 4 cubic feet of potting soil on my way home so I wouldn't have any reason to go out. I have so many baby plants to put in, mostly larkspur from the fall robin and some nice pink/yellow hollyhocks too.

BELLEVILLE, IL(Zone 6b)

Iowhen is getting on that bird atm, says thurs will be the relaunch ;D

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

Gypsy, I hope it was as good as the first time!

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, Mipii, I'll never forget my first. ;) It was definitely fun though. Now I hope I can do something with all these potential plants.

Wow yeah she's flying fast now!! Is she a robin or a roadrunner? 😉

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Was that overnight delivery? Maybe she's a homing pigeon or an Amazon drone!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Here's a couple Ruby Moon Hyacinth bean sprouts ,, Nice to know "Could not grow beans " does not apply for the moment ,, (as far as sprouting anyway ) lol
I was going to say "Look "Baby Moons" But then we might be talking Rally cars or Changing Diapers ,, ^_^

Have fun minniesippi

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

No overnight, I used a company called SpeeDee (I think) that is based in St Cloud MN. It's just a little cheaper than the other options, but only goes to a few states.
