Greenthumb, Critter and Muddy...Sometime between Fri am and Mon am when I called North Creek toplace our latest order, someone bought all 30 flats of Allegheny Spurge! So, the next availability is July 21. Do you all still want to order this? Remember that Ric and Holly are planning to host a Fall Swap and they are near to North Creek...or? Let me know what you all want to do.
Muddy, I saw on the seed starting threadthat you want some of the Lupines perennis. Did you want 6, 12 or moreplants?
Greenthumb did you see that Woodwartia Fern is now available again? They also offer 'Upland Ironweed' Vernonia glauca Do you think this is a good alternative to NY Ironweed?
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Vernonia-glauca-
Everyone. take a look through the North Creek site...they have some other goodies. I've never heard of Chrysopsis mariana 'Maryland Golden Aster
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Chrysopsis-mariana-
Milkweed for Monarch what can we do 2014
Dicentra exima?
Spigellia marylandica?
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Spigelia-marilandica-
and North Creek rep keepd saying one of his favorites is Phlox paniculata 'Jeana'
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Phlox-paniculata-Jeana
And of course I really like Phlox 'Triple Play'
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Phlox-glaberrima-ssp-triflora-Triple-Play
Phlox paniculata 'Jeana' is really pretty!
Judy, I'm still game for Pachysandra procumbens, Allegheny Spurge.
Woodwardia virginica fern is great for damp areas like pond margins, low spots, etc. Not for those without some fairly damp location. I am planning to build a shady bog area this spring, so I would be interested in some.
Vernonia glauca is shorter than New York Ironweed and prefers drier conditions, probably making it better suited to most people's gardens.
I also still want the Pachysandra procumbens. The later delivery time is actually better because I have a lot to plant this spring.
Regarding the Lupinus perennis: what would I need to buy in order to complete the flat? I misread your post and thought that only 6 more plants would do it.
Ditto on wanting the Pachysandra procumbens... but we need to figure out a pickup plan... Holly & Ric aren't that close to North Creek. If we combined it with an order for other Hellebores, for example, it would be worth making a road trip there before the fall swap. But that's another group purchase entirely... If they'll hold a flat for us, I'm sure we can put together an order for fall.
I would really like some of that 'Jeana' phlox! The blooms look smaller than other garden phlox, which I think makes it a little "different," plus it's described as fragrant, and it's PINK! :-) I'm "in" for 1/8 to 1/4 flat, however you're working it out, especially if we can get the better-rooted landscape plugs!
It is an hour and a half drive each way for us. We certainly could make a nice afternoon drive of it. A beautiful area that we don't get to very often.
When is the Fall swap? We would need to get them in the ground early enough so they get established before the cold sets in; otherwise, they may not make it through the winter.
Ordered the Pacysandra yesterday morning and the first availability date is now Sept 1st. so a Fall planting it is. Popular plant, too! They are in 32's so a pretty good size.
Ric and I are planning to host a fall swap but we haven't set a date at this time and wouldn't set one till later this summer. Plus there is always the possibility that something could come up that would prevent us from having the fall swap and then someone else would have to step up and host.
Muddy, fall swaps are held early enough so that it is enjoyable to spend the day outdoors. Don't think Pachysandra procumbens will have a survival problem if planted in the early fall.
We would probably be looking at a Sept date.
Thanks; I had no idea when you all usually do the fall swap. September's a fine time to plant it.
We're usually, what, mid to late September for the fall swap? I've planted Hellebores pretty late before... up-potted some of them to overwinter on a gravel "patio" and put some in the ground... most of them made it.
LOL, guess I had this window open for a while this afternoon! Yep, what Holly said. :-)

I'll go in for 2 shares of 12 plants of Vernonia New York Iron Weed
I really want 'Raydon's Favorite' aster. Please go ahead and order the flat... if there are no more takers, I'll take what remains (up to 1/2 flat total for me). We're ordering the flat of 50 landscape plugs, right?
Thanks!
Critter, maybe you can generate some additional interest in Phlox 'Jeana" ?
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Phlox-paniculata-Jeana
North Creek also offers Caryopteris and several Honeysuckle vines as well as Gelsenium vine.
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/index.cfm
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/index.cfm
As a repeat of what I posted on the seed starting forum (wrong place, I realized):
I'll take 1/4 share of the Rudbeckia fulgida var fulgida, or 1/2 if there are no other takers so that we can order the flat.
Coleup, I'll go in for 1/4 share of Solidago odora (Anise-sented Goldenrod) and Solidago caesia.
thanks!
there is also a quarter share of Oenothera 'Fireworks' available
http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/plantName/Oenothera-fruticosa-Fireworks
Oenothera 'Fireworks' (Sundrops)(Evening Primrose)LP50
Catmint1/4,Catbird1/4,SSG1/4
1 shares of 12 plants @ $ 13.80 or
2 shares of 6 plants @ $ 6.90
Hey, TERP! and other lovers of pretty pink blooms... How about picking up a few of those phlox 'Jeana'?
At a little over a dollar per plant for the LP50 size, the price is right! I'll take 12 for me, 6 more for my MIL (3/8 flat altogether), but that's probably all I can manage.
Catmint? Didn't you say you thought they were sooo pretty?
FRAGRANT, too! The flowers are smaller but more numerous, on branching stems, and the plant has OUTSTANDING MILDEW RESISTANCE! Google for images, and you'll see it attracts more than its share of butterflies. And it's a personal favorite of the North Creek rep...
:-)
I can take 6 Aster 'Lady in Black' if that will help...
edited to add, at that price/size, I'll take 12. :-)
12 to go, or maybe 6, as I think somebody (SSG?) said they'd love to have it but didn't have room for 1/4 flat.

Ok, I'll take 6 Aster Lady in Red. :)
So we only need 6 more to fill the order!
Critter, I'll take a few of the phlox Jeana. What is the unit that people are getting?
Thanks SSG. !
Phlox paniculata 'Jeana' Critter3/9,
2 shares of 12 plants @ $ 13.50 or
5 shares of 6 plants @ $ 6.75
I have a big NE Aster which, usually, grows way too broad and tall.
I will be pinching it back this spring and trying to root the cuttings.
Never done this plant before--but if they root--I will have some to share.
Anyone rooted cuttings of this Aster?
This is one plant--and it does sprawl...
Thanks, G.
edited to add that rabbits will chew the stems down at the base to get
to the leaves. I lost many stems around the perimeter this way.

thanks, Coleup--for phlox Jeana, I'd like 5 shares of 6 plants @ $ 6.75
Beautiful aster, Gita!
Thanks, Catmint! But... do you really mean you want 30 plants for $40.50? Or do you want 1 share of 6 for $6.75?
Or do you want 1 share of 6 for $6.75?--yes!! thanks!
new thread? having problems with slow dial up and would like to be able to reference this thread in future - thank you in advance
Coleup, I have a question about the size of the plugs in some of the flats already ordered. Will we be getting the LP50 size for Rudbeckia fulgida and Liatris spicata?
Either one is fine with me; I just want to make sure I know how many plugs I'll be getting so I can plan my beds according. I'm determined to plot out where everything goes rather than plant in my normal random way. I'm so excited!
Muddy, both should be LP50
