Not yet.
Wind blew all yesterday enough to make the dog bark at a big gust. Seems to have died down now.
weather in the garden #136
20° hazy sun Nantucket had gale force winds & over 9" of snow, so she may be having power problems. No snow here.
Glad you didn't have any problems. Praying for Patti
Just a dusting here, no sticking to roads. Lots of wind, but nothing like the coast.
41° sunny
starting to rain - still have a good snow cover here - in two weeks deliveries trees and plants begin.
We are a SOGGY mess. I have been thinking about my northerly friends and wondered how you all fared. Have we heard from patti after the big wind and storm?
Snow is mostly melted at my house, except the piles around the driveway. Across the street it is still a deep crustly ice patch. Yesterdays rain was too cold to go outside to rake up mulch and finish pruning. Today it is a few degrees warmer at 36 F and drizzling, grey sky.
35° & overcast. Patti has not posted.
34, going up to 50 :)
Back from Sarasota where week 1 was hot & sunny, & week 2 was chilly & rainy! Also came home with a sinus infection. Weather today is 50s & sunny, hung out clothes on the line.....Fl was fun, but I'm happy to be home.
Oh, stink!! A sinus infection. No wonder you are glad to be home.
I ended up babysitting today cuz DIL is sick so Mr. Thomas and I ran around the yard for a bit picking up sticks. He was kicking a ball around. Hope his molars come in soon. He is a drool machine!!!! He took a 2 hour nap. A loverly day to be outside.
60 and windy
Sorry about the sinus infection, Marilyn. tough way to end a vacation.
Almost 50° today, but didn't quite make it.
Welcome home, Marilyn! This must be the year for sinus infections. I had one a couple of weeks ago, and a friend of mine just found out he has one now. Good luck getting rid of it!
I'm glad to hear about the snow melting. We were supposed to open the house last weekend, but the plumber couldn't get the water going. The whole side of the house where the well is, was covered in snow and ice. We have our fingers crossed that we can get up there on Saturday, even though we have to leave again on Sunday.
Gorgeous day today in NY!
Sinus is a real problem this year all right....I know of several others sick with it......Pam, my snow is gone.....50s yesterday, today, tomorrow....I'm sure Warren will be thawed as well! Sat. should be 60....yippee!
Woohoo!!!
40 and rain on the way
52° Clear, sunny Several plants of crocus are in bloom as well as the first iris. It is from the reticulate series: Katharine Hodgkin.
Lucky....nothing is blooming here....iris just sticking their noses out......I raked one perennial bed, 5 more to go....plus the lawn......
Well, we still have snow, but the water is running. Yippee! So we're coming up Saturday morning, even though we have to leave by noon on Sunday. I can't wait to see what's going on... Even though I probably won't be able to tell much yet. Sounds like it's still February at our house ;-)
rain today and the next few. too wet for getting in the garden :(
Rain coming in today as well, but shouldn't be heavy......Pam, Goshen looked pretty good yesterday, only a few ice piles....mostly mud! Huge tire warehouse fire in Torrington yesterday...I could see the thick black smoke from my hill....then, of all days, had to pick my son up at the repair shop one mile from fire! Detours all over the place, & this morning's paper explained about all the cyanide & other poisons spewing into the air! The fire could be smelled in MA & as far east as Bristol...I've been coughing worse than I had been!
this am was rainy, now 58 and windy
Yippee! Water's on, we're going up tomorrow! Can't wait!
But I think we'll skip a visit to Torrington...
39° overcast
Sunny & 55 next 2 days.....will be back out in the flower beds today, raking & pruning. My fav rose, Morden Sunrise, had to be pruned way down this year....lots of totally dead canes.....Pam, enjoy the time in Warren, but, yeah, don't buy anything in Torrington in the way of food! My house has smelled liked burned rubber for the past few days......
Thanks for the warning. We had planned to go there for dinner, ha ha. Guess not!
37 and sunny
raked all day today - almost all snow is gone - will be back at it tomorrow
I. reticulate 'Harmony' in bloom today. It is a beautiful blue & one which has flowered quite a few years. People here to fix the front gutter which has dripped on our heads all winter. they also power washed the shady side of garage roof.
Nice to be outside again to see the beautiful iris! Past two days the temp has varied from 29 F to high of 52. Now it's finally sunny, the wind is less fierce and temp is 43. I want to get a walk in at Arnold Arboretum if I can convince anyone to drive that far. Raking the dead grass will still be possible next week, and the garden tasks are being addressed. I want to do major improvements to the fruit trees having had all winter to read. We are only allowed to burn sticks until the end of this month, which sets a limit to garden editing.
Run lawnmower over the leaves & use it as mulch.
39° bright sun
According to my mini- max thermometer, the winter low was -4.4 degrees. Ouch! Other years it's been in the teens. Although today was gorgeous, the garden still looks like March. My new walkway (4, 5), supposed to showcase small spring bulbs and flowers, is still snow- covered. In other areas, not a sign of a daffy anywhere, and the snowdrops are tight little buds. But it's supposed to be in the. 50's all week, I'm sure next weekend will be very different. :-)
The early spring colors, although muted, are still pretty, Pam. Best I can tell, our winter low was 4F.
This afternoon with sun out, the temp got to 59 and has already dropped a degree.
We noticed as we were closer to civilization and ocean at the Arnold Arboretum today, the grass was a lot greener in Jamaica Plain, MA compared to our home. Hence, once back in our arid country, the incredibly strong longing for evergreen plants has returned.
The low in my town was -15.....a few nights were -10, many nights around zero......today was sunny & 57....great day to be out!
have more bulbs up than I remember in the past - especially allium which I expect to show a little later in the spring.
I am hoping for a strong bulb showing this year, too, but only the tips are out for most.
39° some crocus are in bloom here.
Around 40 right now.....chinodoxa is blooming for me, but there are many buds on the hellebores.....
