Bitterly cold to start & then warmed up to the 40s. Springlike tomorrow & back to cold on Sun.
weather in the garden #136
Already 40 here.....snow is retreating, but no daffs yet!
43° I would say spring is on its way, but it is supposed to be colder tomorrow.
just saw we may get hit again with snow Monday.
51° temp in the 20s tomorrow & Monday.
hope not as well - nice warm weather for xcountry today
cold air is supposed to hold storm to the south of us
Yay! Not another flake do I want to see! Sunny & 20s here, with a wicked wind....song sparrow was hopping around my front garden this morning.....
Yesterday it was almost t-shirt weather considering the birght sun. It enabled DH to polish our new stainless steel tub surround outdoors. You may feel sorry for him considering my big plans, so he ought to get lots of credit. I collected nice wooden outdoor tables and a bookcase from our neighbor who offered them and isn't taking them along to their new house, so good thing DS was home to help move stuff down the street. They are heavy.
Temp today is back down to 34 F. Snow has melted in spots outside. Still more fun to be indoors dreaming of neat new conifers to plant artistically than to actually start trimming and pruning. Think I'm taking out or reducing a flowering almond rather than treat its fungus. Better view of the apple and conifers, anyway. Maybe after it flowers.
like flowering almonds - have some azaleas here that get fungus
planted my t-plants today
a little icy going xcountry and the wind yesterday knocked down a number of branches and needles off the white pines.
glad the snow missed us.
mid 30's and snow flurries
23 degrees I am tired of winter.
18 here, even colder overnight. Dare I ask what gives?
16 here an hour further north, overcast, although sun is trying to break it up.
17 and sunny. I wish when it warms up it would stay and not get cold again!
30 with a cold wind......leaving for FL tomorrow....hope it's warm there.....
15 degrees Hope it warms up here. Bring us some Florida weather.
Have a great trip!!! Enjoy the warmth.
Snowed about 5" here yesterday. I knew it had snowed even before I got out of bed, cuz it was just WAY too bright outside. Wanted t crawl back under the covers. Friday and Saturday's temps were wonderful. Was able to get a lot of cleaning up and cutting back of the beds. Could almost watch the bulbous things growing in front of my eyes. Now they are covered up with a blanket of snow. I am soooooo ready for spring pretties!!!!
Snow should protect them from cold. We are finally up to 27 from the low teens earlier this morning.
I learned that one northeast tradition is to start the pruning and cleanup when the robins are here. Well, the robins must be pretty cold. Temperature is up to 39 this afternoon, a real heat wave.
I have taken a vacation day, and one fun plan is to start a grafting project. Since I have about zero experience with this, I've decided it's still too cold but I am cutting a few branches of the heritage apple tree in a patio pot, called a Fameuse in sophisticated circles, though I grew up calling it a snow apple. The twigs will be chilled in my fridge at least until the weekend or later. Books don't tell us everything that my experienced forebears knew from years of experience in the orchard, but they didn't have to buy prepared trace minerals in bags either. For good measure I am still keeping the tree in its pot until the grafts assuredly take.
'Snow Apple' are my favorites for taste. Have not had one in a long time.
If you have an apple tree, I can save a few whips for you to try
Afraid, no apple tree. Too many oaks, pines etc.
It sounds like a nice area.
40's and rain
31 hazy sun
Our property is old 'conservation' land , cut into smaller lots 40 yrs ago.
30's and cloudy
41 & sun trying to break through the clouds
Real nice today! Sunny
Into the mid 40s. DH has raked the leaves off some of our daffodils.
calling for a high of 50. currently 30 and snowing. I think someone forgot to tell mother nature
39 degrees overcast, windy
the dusting of snow melted, finally got to 48
30 degrees sun is trying to break through the overcast
Its 34 degrees today,to my great surprise the landscaper came and clean up the yard and put down lime on the lawn.I had to call out to him to stay away from my garden beds because all my bulb plants are sprouting up.I think he is crazy to do that today.
got up to 30
34° here as well It looks like we will miss most of the storm--report now changed 'dusting to 1' The outer Cape will get the jackpot.
Yes, looking like it will miss us as well!! Thankful!
Everything but the wind missed us!
Nantucket sustained 80 MPH winds most of yesterday...anybody heard from Patti?
