cold air is supposed to hold storm to the south of us

Thomaston, CT

Yay! Not another flake do I want to see! Sunny & 20s here, with a wicked wind....song sparrow was hopping around my front garden this morning.....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Yesterday it was almost t-shirt weather considering the birght sun. It enabled DH to polish our new stainless steel tub surround outdoors. You may feel sorry for him considering my big plans, so he ought to get lots of credit. I collected nice wooden outdoor tables and a bookcase from our neighbor who offered them and isn't taking them along to their new house, so good thing DS was home to help move stuff down the street. They are heavy.

Temp today is back down to 34 F. Snow has melted in spots outside. Still more fun to be indoors dreaming of neat new conifers to plant artistically than to actually start trimming and pruning. Think I'm taking out or reducing a flowering almond rather than treat its fungus. Better view of the apple and conifers, anyway. Maybe after it flowers.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

like flowering almonds - have some azaleas here that get fungus

planted my t-plants today

a little icy going xcountry and the wind yesterday knocked down a number of branches and needles off the white pines.

glad the snow missed us.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Have a great trip!!! Enjoy the warmth.

Snowed about 5" here yesterday. I knew it had snowed even before I got out of bed, cuz it was just WAY too bright outside. Wanted t crawl back under the covers. Friday and Saturday's temps were wonderful. Was able to get a lot of cleaning up and cutting back of the beds. Could almost watch the bulbous things growing in front of my eyes. Now they are covered up with a blanket of snow. I am soooooo ready for spring pretties!!!!

South Hamilton, MA

Snow should protect them from cold. We are finally up to 27 from the low teens earlier this morning.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I learned that one northeast tradition is to start the pruning and cleanup when the robins are here. Well, the robins must be pretty cold. Temperature is up to 39 this afternoon, a real heat wave.

I have taken a vacation day, and one fun plan is to start a grafting project. Since I have about zero experience with this, I've decided it's still too cold but I am cutting a few branches of the heritage apple tree in a patio pot, called a Fameuse in sophisticated circles, though I grew up calling it a snow apple. The twigs will be chilled in my fridge at least until the weekend or later. Books don't tell us everything that my experienced forebears knew from years of experience in the orchard, but they didn't have to buy prepared trace minerals in bags either. For good measure I am still keeping the tree in its pot until the grafts assuredly take.

'Snow Apple' are my favorites for taste. Have not had one in a long time.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

If you have an apple tree, I can save a few whips for you to try

South Hamilton, MA

Afraid, no apple tree. Too many oaks, pines etc.
