That 'Frosty Cherry' is a really pretty AV. There are a couple of Flower Shows coming up and last year I got a few AV's at both of them so I am looking forward to seeing what the vendors have this time.

Here is a pic of the damage. No wonder the plant fell out of the pot when I moved it. There are no roots holding it in there yet. I know they said that the bulb would bloom just sitting on a window ledge but I thought since I potted it up that there would be roots holding it in the pot. No in all those weeks pretty not any roots have developed.
Hope the bulb is still ok. Are you going to pot it up and maybe increase its size over the season? Is there anyway to time the bloom so that it is in the greenhouse to start wtih and won't have to be moved?
What a dramatic plant!
I am going to repot it and see what it does I think you may only get one bloom per bulb per year not too sure if it will bloom again but I think it will grow leaves and produce more bulbs. Might just plant it in the yard this summer. Once the bloom is finished it should start making leaves. Even broken it sure does stink. Can't smell it down here but that upstairs room sure smells bad.
Warm weather on the way in time for you to air the room with open windows :o).

"Not sure how old the AVs are, but they still look too small to bloom. Judging from their sizes, I would say that the single ones in pics #2, #3, and #4 should bloom around April/May. Make sure their potting soil is fresh and they get good light. Feed them "weekly but weakly"."
**************************************************************************
Most of the AV's are starts from leaves at different times...It is a collection of so many
different propagations that many don't even have a tag on them as to color.
Then again--many of the smaller ones have the same color tag, because many of the
leaves came from my TWO existing AV's. So--I have an abundance of many of the same..
Then, of course, over time--I have acquired leaves from AV's from different sources.
They all have rooted and are now growing out.
They were ALL freshly repotted in that amazing AV soil (same as I gave you) and I am
Keeping a water bottle on the table with MG-AV liquid fertilizer in it--and, any time i see
a dry AV--I water it. I check every day. Not every one gets watered at the same time.
The light is a 100W CFL shaped like a spot light. Whether that is enough--I do not know.
They seem to be doing OK. I am sure more light would not hurt--but150W bulbs are hard to find...
Don't want to blow a circuit either...
At least they are warm--NOT cold as they were sitting on the shelf against my LR window.
I suppose it is going to be a waiting game. Gita
Here--just took this to show you.
It looks dim--but that is what indoor lights look like when you take a picture...
Does anyone know if the day has been 100% decided on for the swap?????
I really need to know--as I work on Sundays...
Is it now set for Sat. afternoon/evening?
Gita
GH is doing well, we're still hoping for a propane delivery. I have a grill bottle in reserve if we get another polar vortex, I may need it to overcome the extreme cold. I don't expect a 25# bottle will last more than a few nights even with the electric heaters going.
They filled the tank this afternoon.
Did a little plant cleaning today, cut a few leaves off some of the AV's will see if I can get them to start. Carried what I could into the upstairs room and Ric set off one of those bomb he uses in the GH. Hopefully that will clean up the plants, mealy bugs, spider mites, Oh My.
If not, get some lions tigers and bears in there…!
As winter hopefully winds to an end this month I'm taking stock of what did well and what didn't overwintering in my house, and the 'winners' ;-) are:
(1) My kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva Dark Pink'), which has sprouted blossom after blossom for me, doing almost better in the window sill than it did under my rose bush!
(2) My asparagus fern (Asparagus densiflorus 'Sprengeri')--hard to get a good pic with the bright light coming through the window, but it grew amazingly tall
(3) My amaryllis bulbs--'Flamenco Queen' was huge and put out blossom after blossom. 'Double Dream' took its time but is finally just about ready to pop its first blossom.
I remember that someone in this forum advised that asparagus fern and kalanchoe should be my two choices to overwinter. I don't remember who that was anymore (Holly? Sally?), but boy you were right!! :-) Many thanks!
I'll probably make these my regular 'overwintering' plants, and keep them in pots outside through the growing season to make it easier to bring them inside come winter.

Cool pics! So nice to have indoor flowers.
Just a comment about asperagus fern, I was taught to cut off the oldest stems before bringing in as they were generally the ones that dropped 'needles' all over as they aged and died. With enough light there will be new growth and they will fill back out again by the time they go outside. Also, any 'flowering stalk' should be cut off when you notice it as tah will keep new growth coming.
I was also told to trim Wandering Jew and Setcretcia back to just and inch over the edge of the pot before bringing in, Lots of cuttings to root or grow in water. Seems to keep these plants busier and less stringy.
thanks, Coleup. My asparagus fern was pretty small when I got it late last summer, and still small when I brought it in, so virtually all the growth has occurred this winter! It's dropped very few needles-- I don't know whether this is because it's a relatively young plant or because it's a cultivar that sheds less?
It hasn't flowered yet, although I'm looking forward to that. I'll keep in mind about cutting back the flower stalks to keep it growing.
Catmint, it sounds like you're hooked now...Nice that the Amaryllis worked so well. I haven't bought new ones lately, and my older ones haven't been cared for right. But I do have one nice red one blooming now, along with the Clivia, and well appreciated with the endless winter we're stuck in.
; ^P
Yesterday I scoped clearance and chose one tagged Ant Mehani. See the first picture here for anthurium 'Mehani' which has nice veined leaves but ugly flowers.

Hm. Maybe I should stop with the clearance experiments!
Also on the link is a Heart shaped Fern which we saw at DPF too. Cute!
Gita gave me a leggy pot of this angel wing in fall- she just didn't feel like messing with
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/51472/
from which I made a small pot of cuttings. Over winter they've rooted and are clearly on the verge of spectacular. I'm going to up pot them into the blue pot from Holly and Ric- the pastel pot will bring out the spots on the leaves.
8 ^)
I also have an existing pot of it from Jill that was on the deck ( shaded) for summer. Loved each other, it grew leaves up to 9 inches long, three long blooming stems, all from a four inch pot. A couple other types of cane begonia cuttings (coleup, Gita) are hanging in there, rounding out what might turn into a nice mixed planter for a shady spot in summer.
Sally, would love to see some photos! :-)
I have been very lazy with photos...I will try to prioritize that today! It's nice for me also to have them for "progress."

not sure if I posted that...
Look here at another potential picture of my new anthurium

now that's more like it!
Very pretty, Sally!
Catmint, Your plants look great, very healthy looking..
Sally, I love that anthurium
ok let's try some pics of my stuff
Struggling tropical hibiscus, and hey look. This EE has been totally ignored and under that table in the basement. And it KNEW that spring is coming and just started this new leaf.
Basement windowsill, Grapto, Agave, begnoia
Showing GIta my red epi on Saturday , and she said Oh look you have a bud! Two of them!
Tray of Coleus very lucky with them this year
Bedroom garden- my new McCoy like pot with that pink Angel wing Begonia. How pretty! Thanks again! On the right side of that is the orchid I meant to give to Holly in return. Well, it is one less thing to worry about while Holly gets better..
Oh, haha. It's unusual to see the cat and dog laying so close. I think the kitty was chilly!
That's about it for my indoor garden tour.
Wow!!!! Looks great!
Those coleus, HOW did you manage to keep them so full?!
Ew, sorry for those last two underlit unfocused pix.
I took my coleus cuttings and stuck them in individual pots, those that are a bit bigger and deeper than a four pack cell. I used a mix on the coarse side, as most of what I use now has bark in it. I wanted to be sure of drainage as last year they rotted. I have had to watch them pretty close to avoid wilting. They were on the ground while it was still warm enough, got rooted, then inside under these lights. And I crossed my fingers really good! Now if I can keep them for another 6 weeks or so....
Thanks for the tour, Sally! Your coleus looks so beautiful and healthy! And I love the red amaryllis--so striking!
Yes, I agree about how nice the coleus looks but I must admit, I was REALLY liking the picture of Addy and the cat snoozing together so comfy on the couch LOL.
thanks!.
Sally, the AV standing next to the Anthurium is a "Ma's Melody Girl". The one with variegated leaves is a "Cool Mint".
thanks! I'll make a note.
That sure is beautiful Catmint, Yaayyy!!!!
thanks, Speedie. Took forever but I guess it was worth the wait. :-)
That is a gorgeous amaryllis!
WOW! Most beautiful amaryllis I've ever seen. Congrats, Catmint! Good timing, looks like you'll be able to enjoy it over the weekend.
Thanks, Typ and SSG! Definitely a keeper bulb. I like it more than I did the Flamenco Queen, which bloomed so quickly.
Hoping the new Misty bulb I got from the gift table at the swap last weekend blooms for me...
And I hope it's 10-fold as beautiful as this one! =)
Catmint,
I had 'Misty' from the bulb co-op. The description indicated that it was a much smaller/petite bloom than the other amaryllis. I thought it would be really nice in a grouping of 3 in a shallow round pot. My experience with my 3 'Misty' was that the blooms were small/petite and pretty as advertised, but the stalks were very tall - actually looked out of proportion to me. They also didn't grow or bloom at the same rate, so my idea of 3 grouped together in the pot didn't fare very well either. I kind of remember some kind of discussion on a way to keep the stalks shorter??? Was it Sally??? If we can re-energize the discussion regarding if/what method is used to keep the stalks shorter, my two cents is for you to try it on the 'Misty' you are growing now.
Bear with me--I want to show you all what a the Greenhouse at my HD looks like...
After all----it DOES qualify as "Indoor gardening'...
We are so fortunate to have one. Only the 1st 4 HD's built in this area had GH's--
Glen Burnie....White Marsh (us)...Catonsville....and Towson.
after that--all the stores had to have their plants somewhere inside.
The GH is as long--as the store is wide. Lots of room.
Our GH serves many purposes--plants are just at one end...by the big window..
Other uses...
--Once upon a time--it had a beautiful pond in there--waterfall, fish and all...
--A refuge for tender plants on carts if a cold snap hits
--a holding place for delivered Holiday plants till they are merchandised.
--A place to keep stacks of firewood dry
--A nice, out of the way location, to display all the grills and their accessories
--A place to keep all the seed growing supplies
--And a place where the assemblers can bang away and run their drills
without annoying everyone in the store.
Took some pictures yesterday to show you....
1--2--3 and 4---Here are the tables in the front--by the big window
5--looking back to the front of the GH from the back end
