Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

hi, SSG. Do you want to take over my 1/4 flat of Espresso? It was another one that I had signed up for just to fill the flat so others could enjoy. I'd be happy with 1 or 2 plants.

Thank you for sharing, Happy!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Catmint, I already have a 1/4 of Espresso, so I'm all set.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Coleup: I'll take Catmint's share of the Espresso.

So the prior order was:
Geranium 'Espresso'/ 32 / Happy (1/2) + SSG (1/4) + Catmint (1/4)

It should be changed to:
Geranium 'Espresso'/ 32 / Happy (3/4) + SSG (1/4)

Please, if anyone wants any of my plants, let me know by dmail!!!!

I Completed flats of Hellebores Brandy wine as follows if this is now correct

Hellebores brandywine/18/ Happy (2/3) +SSG (!/3)

and second flat

Hellebores Brandywine/18/ Yehudith (2/3) + Sequoia (1/3)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Coleup: That's fine. Also, please see my post immediately before yours. I edited it while you were posting.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Happy et all, I wonder wether we should be offering to share our plants before we have even ordered them ?
For instance, Donner's request for 5-10 Meehania from you could be jiggled up to a quarter flat (two more plants) which might generate another full flat order for our group. If there is not enough additional interest to order an additional flat within the next 3 months or whenever we close all orders, then would be the time to share or split up existing orders among existing orderers. And after that would be the time to list any plants we care to share beyond our orders here on our Spring Swap Haves/Wants list.

Anyhow, that is how I am planning to do things with all of the Milkweed flats I have ordered. And, I am feeling pressure to make side trades and requests now lest I loose out on one or two plants I'd like rather than just concentrate on getting our North Creek order together and then doing some up/down adjusting/ and diveying up.
Just me? Others thoughts?

Thanks, Judy

Coleup: I thought we'd arrange any side-trades privately, so you can completely ignore it at your level. In other words, I have asked to buy a full flat of Meehania cordata, and that appears as my order. That's perfect. Donner asked me for 5 or 10 of those (which is less than 1/4 of a flat). I will privately arrange to give Donner 5 or 10 of those, and she will pay me privately. Nothing for you to keep track of. That will not impact the main order -- I will still pay for and pick up a full flat. Isn't that the easiest way to handle it?

But I realize this may still be confusing. So to avoid this:

-->I recommend we make any and all private arrangements by dmail so they are invisible on this thread.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Happy,
There are currently 9 full flats listed for you.
Are you saying that you intend to mini co-op all of these varieties either now or at a later date for pick up at Spring Swap for any people who contact you privately and wish to share your flat and pay or trade you for same?

Not knowing what Aspenhill thinks about this since it is her group buy, I can see where this may have some advantages since she does not wish to deal with orders below the 1/4 flat level. She could place your order as a separate order which would be invoiced separately from other orders she may place and save some 'book keeping . She could let you figure out what to do if items on your order are unavailable or on back order, etc, and adjust your part of things without a lot of dmails or discussion which would be handled by you and then relayed to Terri.

Whatever Terri decides to do , I don't think we should jump the gun or in anyway impede or alter her learning process.

One big issue will be how 2000 to 3000 or more plants get distributed at the Swap from our North Creek orders with out drastically cutting in to our visit to Aspen Hill and Terri' gardens and all the other eating and greeting and meeting and swapping our swaps are loved for....I personally know how much my schlepping plants for show and tell?swapping has cut in to my socializing with every one! Definitely something to think about.

And, I do still think that as a forum we are in the wish list, mulling it over, budget projection phase of this process. with some more able to commit now and others later. Only rush might be on 'availability' of some varieties at North Creek.

Do thers have thoughts on this>

Judy

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Coleup: I really appreciate your taking the lead in consolidating everyone's orders. In response to your post above, if a flat was mostly taken, or if someone dropped out, I offered to take more than I otherwise might have just to facilitate the group buy, figuring someone might show up later who would want some of those plants. But if that doesn't happen, that's ok too. I wanted to make it easier on AspenHill, not harder, and keep the division of the flats as simple as possible. If someone wants some of the plants I ordered, I can facilitate that without AspenHill having to keep track of those small numbers (though I don't anticipate much of that). And I'm happy to arrive early at the spring swap to divide up the flats if AspenHill would like me to, or even go a day earlier, or help with the pickup from North Creek.

Bottom line: I'm happy to do whatever is easiest to facilitate this big purchase, and I think the co-op is running smoothly and the plants will be straightforward to divvy up. This will make for a really fun spring!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Thanks Coleup for all your work keeping track of and tallying all this!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think having volunteers to go before the swap date to help divide up the plants would be a big help -- it sure worked out well with the bulbs last fall. We might also ask Terri about coming a bit early to the swap, so we can pick up our flats & partial flats (and maybe get any of our extras organized for other people that might have arranged with us on the side to get a few plants).

I'm just now reading down through this thread, catching up on all that's been happening, and having fun browsing the NC site... I'm sorry to hear something is going on with Terri's mom... I'm sure she'll check in with us this weekend as she said. I'll try to reach her to see how they're doing, too.

Judy, thanks for consolidating those numbers! That'll help a lot, esp if she's still stressed or time crunched with family issues. :-)

Please sign me up for:
Monarda didyma 'Jacob Cline' - 1/4

Please drop me from:
Pycnanthemum flexuosum / LP50 / catmint (1/4) + happy (1/4)

I can increase my interest in the second (still open) flat of viola walteri 'Silver Gem' / 32 or 72/ to a total of 1/2 of the flat (net) -- I'd like the 32 size please. So 1/2 of that flat is still open.

Coleup, in this section,
"Geranium 'Expresso'/ 32 / Happy (3/4) + SSG (1/4)"
is on twice. We're just splitting one flat.

THANK YOU!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I may be posting too late for our initial order, and that's fine. This is just the first chance I've had to really look. :-)

I'm interested in:

1/4 to 1/2 flat Amsonia 'Blue Ice', 32-cell tray.
1/4 to 1/2 flat of Viola 'Silver Gem', 32 cell tray
1/4 to 1/2 flat Asclepias incarnata 'Ice Ballet'
1/4 to 1/2 flat Carex m. 'Ice Dance' (or 'Silver Scepter')

The 'Blue Ice' is supposed to have better form, more intense color, & even more vigor than other Blue Stars... sounds good to me, but I want bigger plants that I don't have to coddle, so I'm interested in the 32 count ones ($11.13 for 1/4 flat = $1.40 per plant).

As for Silver Gem, what can you say aout a viola that's gorgeous when *not* in bloom other than memememeee I want it LOL ($10.40 for 1/4 flat = $.30 per plant).

32 count, btw, should be about the size of a 2" pot.

I also love that some of these come in those deep-rooted landscape plugs. I'll be looking specifically at those on the availability list. I'm not sure if all plants that come in flats of 50 are those deep landscaped plugs... I wonder if Asclepias Ice Ballet should be noted as LP50 or if it's just a flat of 50 regular-depth plugs. I want some, regardless!

I'd also like some sedge (Carex), but I'm more interested in the variegated ones (I guarantee my FIL will pull up anything that looks even a little like "regular" grass in the landscape beds). I can switch my interest in 'Ice Dance' to 'Silver Scepter' if that looks better to somebody.

Anybody else on these?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Whups, took me so long to post that (in between ice skating performances for the US Nationals), I didn't see Happy's post.

I'm glad to take up to 1/2 flat of Viola Silver Gem, or if somebody else wants 1/4 I'm good with 1/4 for myself.

Actually, reading back through, I'm confused... Happy, how many Silver Gem plants did you want altogether? 1/2 flat of 72-size plus 1/2 flat of 32-size?

Anyway, if there really was just half a flat of Silver Gem left to fill, then we've filled a second flat of it to order. And if somebody wants 1/4 flat, I'll split my 1/2 flat to accommodate them.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Critter, the 50 plug size is 2x2x2.5 and the LP50 is 2x2x5 so twice as deep.

If you go to this page at NC you can download availability lists for all plugs or one for all LP50 plugs or one for American Beauty Natives. I have done all three to quicly scann for plants I might be interested in or a size I want. Then I go thru the catelog to discover other wish list must haves and 'add them to my cart' and do some research
Catalog itself has a drop down menu at upper right to specify 'all' or any or narrow down to 'grasses' or 'ferns' or 'woodies' or 'vines' or search alphabetically by common or Latin name.

I'll collate in your stuff and send an addendum attachment to my dmail to Terri this afternoon.

If there are no objections and we haven't heard otherwise from Terri I will start a Part Two thread tonight or tomorrow morning for filling out flats and possible additional orders

From my perspective, if we are interested in a variety not already on our mull it over list it would be good to put in the ppp (Price per plant) including any 'Royalty Fees" if you are in to math or just note ppp + Royalty as I have done above.

Thanks BBL Judy

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Critter and Happy re Silver Gem I will add a second flat of 32 to comleted Orders an notice Terri of increase. I f we do not place an order for Silver Gem /32/ while they are still available we will have to go with /72/ and reevaluate who wants what part of /72/

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Critter, you have given me an idea! (I'm sure it will not be the last! lol)

How about on the Silver Gem, I list our second flat now including you as follows

viola walteri 'Silver Gem' / 32/ Happy (1/4)+Critter(1/4) +Critter(1/4) * ppp $1.30

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Coleup, I looked up Viola Silver Gem on their availability list. as of yesterday they had zero flats of 32 and one of 72 remaining... but in mid Feb they had 5 and 10 more flats that should be available, and there may be another "future" crop after that. So I think we can order whatever size we want... for myself, I'd like to get the 32, but I can go with the 72 size if somebody wants more but smaller plants. I'm planning to put multiple plants into a pot for growing on, regardless.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

or maybe

Critter (1/4 + 1/4 if needed)

Critter (1/4 for sure, will take up to 1/2)

Critter (thinks she can plant 1/4, will make heroic attempt to pot up an additional 1/4 if needed)

ROFL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

With the fall bulb buy, I was using Excel, so I could make little notes on the orders... that's how I kept track of the maybes or of who would be willing to take more to fill the bag if needed. I don't think Google spreadsheets has that capability

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

To continue my thought,
if you were listed as two quarters separately you would be assured of at least your first quarter and indicate your willingness to take an additional quarter if someone else will speak for the last quarter. to complete a flat .
That flat would then move to Completed status.

After that if someone indicates they also want a 1/4 share of Silver Gem we could put a third flat of Silver Gem in Split flat ststus with them listed as 1/4*** (looking for three more and if no more appear by time Group Buy ends they would be first in line for the secong quarter you have listed...like being on 'standby'!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Doing a little 'market research' here with us as the test group. if I were Terri, I would like to know how many of us are interested in a particular plant or hated it or would like the blue flowered over the purple etc (kind of a popularity most buzz wish list).

Continuing with the scenario above on Silver Gem. That third flat , once it got to needing only the final quarter could then automatically be equally divided among all of those on the 'interested' list for that plant as long as there were two or more still interested when last call for orders came.

After that any 'extra' plants ordered by anyone could be swapped traded gifted what ever.

Of course what ever we underling orderers doshould have Terri's OK and an infrastructure and volunteers to make it all happen as simple for Terri as possible from ordering, invoicing, distributing, and customer 'fullfillment'! lol

Ok VOR what do you say?

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

hi, Coleup. I'm sure I would take a plant or two of the Viola Silver Gem! :-) It looks like a nice native groundcover that likes moist shady areas. Good for the beneficial insects!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Happy have you decided on a size preference for Aster 'Snow Flurry'? I'm putting /32/ until I hear differently. I have added 1/4 Monarda 'Jacob Cline' and deleted 1/4 Pcynanthemum.

Critter Neither of the Carex you are interested in are available for this order. Plants must be available before the pick up date of May 23rd. Sadly the Amsonia'Blue Star' is not showing availabiity between now and that date either. I have added viola 'Silver Gem' as I proposed at 1/4 + 1/4

Catmint I have added you and Holly to the final quarter flat needed for full flat order of Vio;a'Silver Gem

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Whoops, I was looking at the wrong line on those, I guess! The Amsonia 'Blue Ice' looks like it has good availabilty in the 72/flat size, and that would be fine with me (I'd still take 1/4 or 1/2 flat)

As for the ordering example you elaborated on, I think you're making it too complicated. If I say I'd like to have 1/4 flat but would take up to 1/2, and somebody else wants 1/2 flat, we order the flat. Then if somebody else wants 1/4 flat, they get it from my half flat instead of trying to see if we can get enough interest for another full flat. For the viola, I'd really rather have just 1/4 flat anyway.

If there were a plant where I would prefer to have 1/2 flat but would settle for 1/4 flat to make the numbers work out, then we still do it as above... and I'd get 1/4 flat for sure from the flat that is ordered. After that, I could indicate my interest in 1/4 of an additional flat, and if we "sold" another 3/4 flat, we'd order another flat in the next round of ordering.

edited for clarity (to me, anyway! LOL)
That's how we ended up working it on the fall bulb buy, and that kept things relatively simple. I know your numbers look the same in the end -- but you're over-thinking this.

I like the system with the asterisks... makes it very easy to see where we are at with the partial flats. :-)

I do like Helleborus 'Candy Love'... those outward & upward facing blooms, yum yum!

I'd take 1/3 or 1/2 flat of it. Yehudith, would you want to bump your order up from 6 to 9? Or would somebody else like 6 of them?

Oh, heck, if I end up with a dozen I could share with family, too. Likely I could swap out a couple with somebody who ordered H. Brandywine. The butchered trees in back had just better not make my fence row too sunny!

OK, so I'd like to ADD

1/3 or 1/2 or 2/3 flat of Helleborus 'Candy Love'

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Critter I will add Amsonia'Blue Ice'/72/ Critter (1/4)*** (you can add more when you want or more towards last call on that variety. I will add you to Hellebores "candy' There may also be additional interest in 'Brandywine' Most of the Hellebores aren't available for this order.
I will remove 1/4 order on viola 'Silver Gem'

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

ATTENTION

Tomorrow I will post a new Part Two to this thread with the most current updated and revised summaries of our activities and orders I can cut and paste together!. It has been hard to not have the "latest" info available for editing for me and for referencing for you all at the top of the thread.

Then the first order of business/my goal for the day is to have ready to present to Terri our final draft of Completed Flat Orders If any of us have over or under stated amounts there, tomorrow is the time to speak up and I will try my best to edit and edit till we are done with phase one.

See you in the am awesome folks that you are!

thanks, Coleup! I continue to be very interested in and happy to help with the following:

Aster laevis 'Bluebird' (smooth aster) (partial flat available) / LP50 / gardadore
Helianthus 'Lemon Queen' (partial flat available / 32 / gardadore
Pycnanthemum flexuosum / LP50 / holly
Pycnanthemum muticum / LP50 / holly
Asclepias incarnata (Swamp Milkweed) catmint, gardadore, happy, ric
Asclepias incarnata 'Ice Ballet' / gardadore, Catmint, Happy, Critter ric
Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly Weed) catmint, gardadore, happy, ric

I'm really interested to hear more about this one! E.g., I honestly will not want more than a couple of any of the plants we've discussed, although I'm happy to participate in a plan to make sure that native plants that attract the pollinators are included in our group buy for all to partake of:
Asclepias assortment (TBA) of at least one of each above
There will be a separate thread for this but voicing your interest now is helpful.

For this one, I had gotten an Iron Butterfly last summer and put myself down as happy to help with it so others can enjoy, but not sure I personally need any more of it:
Vernonia lettermannii 'Iron Butterfly' (ironweed) / 50 / catmint, ric

thanks!

Catmint Glad to hear of your interest in pollenators and planting for them. You interests duly noted. Maybe if we all plant more Milkweed we will have more Monarch s. Anyone know about the Baltimore Checkerspot? Their # a real ow too, Maybe North Creek offers their host plant, too....
