Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends new&old

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

o gosh.... so much you ladies are doing, and so much for my poor memory to remember - here goes:

(((Betty))) Hope Jim's better..... I know he's having a tough time in Palliative Care... your family all coming to visit at once - Yikes!
Katie - Such a Santa Claus as there ever was..... you're truly a wonderful person. I read what you said about Bob & I about jobs, and it make me cry - thank you for your thoughts & wishes - btw - good tears...... Hope the car is JUST what you need :-)
Debbie - you ARE the mom...... glad they recognize it
Judy - just before Christmas there are so many robberies - desperate people in a desperate time of year...... glad that he got all the cards cancelled!!
Marion - yes..... firsts are awful....... the First Christmas without your mom will be difficult, to be sure...
Thunder - thank you for that SMILE - Children.... it's what Christmas is all about :-)
Mary - I hope your business is going "great guns" - Congratulations on your success
Barb - listen to me........ breath......... breath again, and continue lol yes, it's necessary to breath!!
LK - looking forward to the pictures!
Marilyn - love sunrises - post pics? We're on a "level" with other homes, so don't get to see sunrises/sunsets unless we're "out and about". I miss the prairies for that.......

Well, I hope I haven't missed anyone!
I'd best get back to the "stained glass look" panel I'm making for the Church - 3/4 done now, and it HAS to be up for Christmas Eve - my schedule......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, waiting for new neighbors to likely come over and ask me to put the Christmas music light system lower, that being said, sure puts you in the mood.

House seems empty without Rita and she has only been gone a few hours.

Like you "M" couldn't believe the masses..five minutes to shop and 1/2 hur in the one up

Stopped at factory rec, got Noah's boss to get Noah dong something n the back of the store then called Kyle to do something so I managed to get their final gift..even got Greg's discount which was great as treat him well so decent savings..last stop was gas gift card for Greg and fini, all done

Rita has been shovelling for me, told her ot to do the front as seldom that door is used' get home and decide I would like it cleared for the Christmas holidays sooo guess who is hurting..me own fault, deserve it.

Susan, think you like working close to the wire, you do well n high pressure.

Lindakay, will check Mary/Lance's link on downstairs computer when I go downstairs..iPad says I need a reader to open it..

Katie, are you not frightened hitching rides? Sounds as though you are still hurting from your accident, more rest needed. Here's hoping the vehicle will pass the grade and you will have wheels to travel one again

Best I clean up my mess

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - you're right.... lately anyway. I used to do stuff as they came to me, but I haven't been able to get the "oompf" to do much, but now I have to.
I'm going to do some more work onmy Round Robin centers too - I have 2 done, and 3 to go...... Mittsy's and LK's are done.
Thunder's, Pat's, and.... oh, I'd have to look at my sheet to see what's still to be done.....

and I have 5 other stained glass sewn panels to do..... total of 6...

Victoria Harbour, ON

so you are playing 'beat the clock' sewing game lol
you will get it done Susan, know you will..especially the one for the church..did you tell them they will get it?

1. last stained glass project finished..this one is for Suzanne/Lenny
2. last of the pressie bought
3. all that remains is the gifts to be open

is it bedtime yet? oh yes, must go hand sew the binding on the piece I promised Sharon I'd do for her..am SO hoping that I can make the trip tomorrow

BOINGGggggggg!! I took my own advice and took a 90 minute nap .. can't say as I actually feel that much better, because, as is typical for me, as soon as I put my head down, my brain went into HIGH gear!
Have now decided to go and get DGD a Harley TShirt as well .. I bought matching ones for Murray and Austin, so, i think I'll pop into the shop tomorrow.

Watched the video, had to stop if once as CREME BRULE and me, had a 'set to' once, but, the chef with Lance and the announcer seemed to have it under control AND, I learned that I likley had the milk/cream mixture TOO hot !!!
What a great video !

2 thumbs up to you Katie re the 'new to you' wheels .. hope the test drive went well .. walking on that ankle is NOT a good thing .

Betty ,, good for you for getting the shopping completed .. but, BOoooooooooo re the shoveling, that's what finally knocked me on me can last winter ....

DH is doing burgers on the barbie in a light snowfall for supper .. I wonder if I can take a pic ? Might try ..

Eastern Canada is getting T H U M P E D with a most horrifying 'ice storm' .. Lorna's folks have cancelled their sojourn (90 minutes) to her brothers on Xmas Eve afternoon.
Really worry about them, but, they have SUPER neighbours !

Have to IRON my Mrs. Claus Apron, I haven't IRONED anything in so long !! It's lacy and white so I best NOT burn it !!

Debbie .. you are just a gem .. being MOM, is an important job .. like you, my cloud follows me at this time of year, so far I seem to be able to BAT it away .. but, I'm always watching for it.

Off I go

Betty, that is so pretty!

Susan, would like to see the stained glass panels your working on.

mulege, Mexico

Hitchiking is fairly safe here, especially in town. There are advantages to being old - I just don't attract a lot of the wrong kinds of attention.

The test drive went well.

There is a pig roast/potluck tonight but I declined to go. I am staying off my sore ankle; time to baby it again. I also have a poker game but I can sit for that (it's online).

Must feed dogs and cats and get my mind as awake as possible. Maybe I'll win the $1,000 first prize!!

hugs, katie

Today was cookie day. I wrapped gifts in the morning and then Norm and I baked 12 dozen cookies in the afternoon. It was fun as we hadn't done it together is a long time. Flour everywhere and some "that's too much dough or that's too little dough" all afternoon. It was fun and we are being good about not eating them!!!! We will need to do some quality control before they leave the house though... LOL

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

If you and Norm need an "unbiased" opinion.........

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I can help also, Barb. Quality control is vital before sending.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Count me in...could do with something sweet to go along with my coffee
What fun Barb, nothing better than time in the kitchen with hubby! Now the mess, oooh you could pretend the flour is a light sprinkling of snow. Lol

Katie, does that mean you will purchase the vehicle..do they insist that it be certified?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are any of you n the path of the storm

Sharon just called, 1/2 inch of ice covering everything

Imagine, I just got an email from insurance company alerting us, telling us to leave vehicle parked, what to put in emergency kit should power go out

Worse will come during the night and early morning

Know that Dianne is getting some of this as well

Debbie, those young lads you take under your wings will never forget your kindness

Keep in there girl

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We are supposed to get it through the night also.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yes, sewing "rush".......... I think I'll post a pic once the panel is 8ft above the floor level - that way you won't be able to see the "mistakes". And trust me, there are mistakes all over the place. It's "free-hand" and I should have allowed for overlap of each piece, instead of figuring the bias tape would cover it all. As it is, I have edges "peeking out" from below the bias tape.....
I'll know better for the next pieces, and I do have 5 more to make.
well, I'm running out of bias tape, and hope to find some inexpensive stuff tomorrow. Each panel takes about 5 pkgs - 4 yards each pkg.... yikes, the cost!well, I'm running out of bias tape, and hope to find some inexpensive stuff tomorrow. katie - here's hoping you win the $1k first prize! And yes, keep off that ankle!!

Hoping that those of you in the path of the ice storm keep safe!

OH - I wanna be quality control!! yummmmmm cookies....... but, I guess I'll have to lose some weight - tough at Christmastime lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, make your own bias, it is easy, and cheaper than buying it.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

you'd have to have a bias tape maker though, and I really don't have the time to make my own, now that Christmas Eve is only days away......

Baton Rouge, LA

Hanging in here... Thank you SO much LK for posting ! I hope things get manageable soon at the shop...I closed tonight so Hubs could go home. He is exhausted and me too....

Got my "Santa Warren" pressie and I'm "saving" it to look at 12/24.... We are closing the shop 12/24-25 and hopefully will have a reprieve....

Betty I'm so sorry you are going through all that... HUGS

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Nice seeing you posy Mary, it's a good exhaustion though isn't it??
Meaning the business is a total success..you really will enjoy your 2 days off then maybe a more manageable schedule.

Susan I make my own bias tape withought using my bias tape makers..anxious to see end result

Karen, did you get the storm

Well, I'm in the house for today, snowed all night, what an amount to shovel, yikes

Now it's at the brink of freezing rain

So my thoughts of helping Sharon and doing my part is nada, nope couldn't get there

Saying that carryover might be into tomorrow as well. Big sigh

Just finishing the piece I told Sharon I'd get done for her, clean the craft room a bit and thinking of getting that new sewing machine out and look at it then I think maybe I will put fireplace on , feet up and enjoy

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

My gosh is it horrifying looking at the weather maps down your way Betty.
We had a dusting of snow overnight, and, it's a bit cool .. but, only -5C (22F)
PLEASE be careful .. can no one else shovel? Looking back on my BAD last year, I can only forsee great OWIES in your future if you shovel ..

Off to get gas .. I'll have to say, whoever started the RUMOUR sure put a panic on all of us here in Thunder Bay, but, there is gas !!

Gym and swim, then off to the Harley Davidson store to get DGD a Tshirt, feel bad I got DS and DGS one and not her as well .. DDIL wouldn't wear one (I think).

It started later than forecast so we will see what happens. Coming at a pretty good rate now. We can hole up here for a few but just a few. DD called and her Nick won't be able to stay home long enough for our Christmas. She asked us if we want to come early, I'd like to because we don't get to see him often. He's a chef so his time off is at a premium. It will give us a chance to visit with other family too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

sharon just called, no power/hydro, just what she needed today!

Has oxygen system that will enable Jim to breath easier..her plow man hasn't been in 4 days, she says you can't even see out the windows as they are covered with sheet of ice. Drats and more dats

She never uses her fireplace but says she will see if her neighbor (rural area so he's a mile or so down the road) can bring her some wood as they are not sure how long no power will be..she just doesn't know how he'd get from main road to her door seeing as its not been plowed

Karen, be extra cautious with going out, don't want an accidents happening.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Tell Sharon to call for help, most places will try to get help soonest to people who have medical need, even to bring emergency generator.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is a good suggestion

Will call her

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

BOJA mi BOJA (an old Ukrainina patient would say that when things got tough)
I'm saying it now
We went to the gym and after Lorna's workout we came back down to the change room to suit up for a swim .. they have flat screen TVs in there on the Weather Channel .. well bust my buttons if eastern Ontario is just coated in ice, trees are down on power lines .. Lorna's folks have no power, but, luckily have a gas fireplace that can be lit by hand. They have taken food from the freezer and put it outside. They 'do down' so many veggies, apple, peaches etc ..
Needless to say, their Christmas plans are cancelled (a trip to Lorna's brothers about an hour or so away)
Betty/Sharon must be frantic, but, I KNOW someone will come to help .. especially Sharon .. air ambulance if need be ..
NO ice here, just a light snowfall ..

Went to the Harley store .. CLOSED .. boy, are they losing business ..

Hope everyone is having a great day ..

Off to get supper out

Worse I've seen in years "M"

Sharon said her neighbor brought a generator, power came on an hour later.

He needed generator so came and got it, no sooner did he leave power went out again

I went out and shovelled, yep paying for it..Mel dropped in, did a bit more shovelling..got to shovel layer of ice before you can get to the snow part. Yep hurting a bit.

Started with light freezing rain again, wicked

Rita just emailed me from airport, flight cancelled again

Think she will have to make her way ome..she is sooo disappointed..am sure Darlene will be as well

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I was afraid Rita would not be able to make her flight. This seems to be a large storm front. Sure glad Sharon has a back-up generator now. Never know when it might pop off again. Betty just never mind about the shoveling. My hubby didn't even go out to do it today. You don't want to be doing more damage than is already done. Sit tight and stay warm and snug.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Agree with Silio ..
Have a bud who's son is coming back from active duty overseas .. he is stuck in Nova Scotia!
She is heart broken, but, glad he's safe .. he MAY make it to Thunder Bay on the 24th if the weather smartens up.

Your Mom and Sharon must be frantic, never mind Jim .. I am keeping all of you in my thoughts.

Wrapping presents, have given Lorna the lions share, she is so neat and tidy .. give me a BAG and some tissue paper and I call it good LoL

Stay safe everyone

HUGS

~M~

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

((((( Betty ))))) you need extra hugs today (and every day) and so does Sharon, and Jim..... what a time for this to happen. Glad her neighbour helped with the generator, AND that the power came on an hour later!

Everyone - PLEASE be careful in this nasty storm front......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Problem is he came and got generator back and power off again

Some will be lucky to have power for christmas

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well crud. He should have known better.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Apparently he needed it for something as well
At least house warmed up a bit while power was on

Just going to call see what she will do tonight

Trying to think if weather clears and I can go tomorrow what I might bring to help out
