I could only pull up one pic of a crinium plant (no flower on it) in the DG plant files. Does it flower?
2013 N Central TX RU Oct. 20th in Arlington TRADE THREAD #1
Thanks Sybram! I think I got some Lizard Tail from last spring. My husband put it in his little pond and just loved it. Unfortunately, when he was replacing the pond pump last month, he had to set the plant out and it died from the heat. Could I get another start? If it's the wrong time of year, I can wait until spring.
Is it a crinum lily? I have some and they do bloom beautifully in late spring/early summer.
Yes they do, they have a lily flower that is on a tall stem and come in a variety of colors. I have some that are dark pink, some that are creamy white, and some that are striped. We have one that is native and grows everywhere there is a low spot.
Here is a nice article about the native one I have. Not the one I currently have listed, but I need to transplant it and will probably have some to trade.

The picture is of the white and pink striped one. The striping can be affected by nutrition, climate, and various other things but still a cool plant.
Sybram - I can always use another fern. If it's not a hassle to pot one up, I'll be happy to relieve you of it. Right now I've been transplanting a lot of wood ferns from my neighbor's yard and crossing my fingers that they survive the move from their front yard to my backyard. These ferns have been growing since the 1950s and are really magnificent. They do die back every year and then come back with a vengeance. Just hope they don't die from my attempts to divide and conquer!
Rouxcrew - Elephant ear. Of course. Thanks. And good article on the crinums (my spellchecker keeps changing that to 'craniums' when I'm not looking). Grew the white ones in Austin but don't remember where they came from. Someone prob. gave us some but it seems like they just appeared one day. My neighbor with the wood ferns has some pink flowers that I told her are I thought were crinums. She's so thrilled when they bloom. If you do have more to trade, I'll prob. want to get a few for her - she's a very young 82 and it would make her very happy. But not to worry if you don't dig up anymore. I'll try to give her the 2 that you've already promised me. (She'll say no, she couldn't; I'll say yes you must; and so on.)
Sybram---If you have any more Datura seeds, May I have a few?
Covenantgarden--I will bring you plenty of hyacinth bean seeds. I have lots.
Steadycam---I can bring you a small hen with chick, an echeveria, and can try to root a start of Rainbow Elephant Bush (Portalacaria afra 'Variegata') and a Paddle Plant. Let me know if you would like them and I will pot them up so that they can start rooting. Can send you pics of the last three if you want to know exactly what they are.
Covenantgarden---I can try rooting some cuttings of coral honeysuckle if you still want it.

Rouxcrew, is your native crinum this one? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1172
If so, would you happen to have one or two to spare?
No mine is the Crinum bulbispermum
http://marcellescrinums.com/html/crinum-species/crinum-bulbispermum.html
Would that one interest you?
Covenantgarden, I don't know what Lizard Tail is. You saying you got it from me?
Bezziec, I'll have Purple Datura Seeds for you.
And thanks all for the Crinum info. I guess I was putting an extra i in it (Crinium). I followed some of your links, and it looks like they only make it to zone 5.
Steadycam, I haven't had a chance to look up the plants you mentioned for me, but I'm going to. Maybe tomorrow. Busy, busy. I'm trimming my horses this week, and it is night and day to trim them after a rain. Cutting through butter, as opposed to steal. Probably finish them up tomorrow, so will be able to pay more attention to DG.
Sybram, I thought it came from you, but I could be wrong. Here's the plant - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/627/
Sheila has lizard tail, I think.
Sybram, where were you wanting to send a crinum that is colder than zone 5?
Yes, Covenant it was me that had the Lizards tail. I will be happy to bring you some. If you need to pot it up (like pump going out) you can. It just requires partial shade and a lot of water. I keep mine in the pond all year. It dies back in winter of course but will return next spring. The roots will be fine if 12" or more down under water and it doesn't freeze solid. They are native and very hardy.
Bezzie, you are so generous! Thanks, I would love each of those. I had a paddle plant once. It bloomed and then died.
Marty thanks for the fern
Gypsi, no problem on the phlox.
Stephanie, can you add me to the list please?
rouxcrew, if you have anymore copper rainlily and/or white spiderlily, I'd love some
Sheila, thank you for the Lizards Tail and the info on wintering it.
Bezzie, yes, I'd like a cutting off the coral honeysuckle if it's not too much trouble. Thanks.
Covenntgarden--Will give you honeysuckle cuttings.
Thanks bezziec!
Rouxcrew, thanks for the offer of the crinums but I'm really just looking for the other one.
Rouxcrew--If you have a pink & white crinum left, I would like to have one. Thanks.
Can do, bezziec.
Thank you, Rouxcrew.
Stephanie -
Haven't heard from you yet about the leaves. Thought I'd give you an update. Since I have 2 large red oaks and another that could be mine or my neighbors, I'm starting to get a lot of oak leaves and, of course, acorns dive bombing everywhere. I am making a pile of the leaves, minus acorns, just for you. I'm sure I'll have at least one full bag that I'll bring to the RU. I feel confident that I'll be able to keep weeds and weed seeds out. So I will make this a 'definite' on my list.
tx_flower_child aka Joan
dfwdennis- I have seen those growing and blooming, havent had mud boots and shovel to get them yet, it will take me til springtime to see them again as there is too much of other highways surfacing in my memories. I believe I spotted them along I30 tween Texarkana and Rockwall, or on US59 somewhere tween Carthage and Houston, I will keep you in mind
Kitt, if you find them, I want one also. There is one for sale on that website that Joy posted called Bayou Traveler that looks a lot like the americanum.
Joy, your pink and white striped crinum lily is beautiful. If you have any of that to share, I'd love it. I was just thinking it couldn't stand our heat up here.
No, Covenantgarden, as you already found out, the Lizard Tail was from Sheila, not me.
Sorry, Sybram. My memory is not as trustworthy as it once was.
Gypsi, I can trade white yarrow plants for black eyed susan seeds if youre willing.
Dennis, Im bringing you a Hammelia patens. could I get a Rhus aromatica from you?
Kittriana, thanks for keeping an eye out for those crinums for me!
Steadycam, I'll put you down for the sumac.
Anyone know where drthor is? I sent her some crinum and havent heard from her, so I fear they are on trek again, chuckl. Havent read the links, but the other white 'crinum' may actually be a hymenocallis- white spider lily.
I was about white spider lily/ too. Any pics?
I dug up some Goldenrod "Fireworks" (solidago rugosa). It needs full sun and tends to get mildew (that's why I dug it up to move to a sunnier spot) Let me know if anyone is interested.
anna, if it's not 12 feet tall, I'd be interested. The one I have is 10 feet tall and still growing.
