Dealing with Hibiscus Weevils in seeds.

blomma--

ONLY 41??? I have never counted mine--but it would be a lot more than that!

If I had more sense--I would have ONLY 3 houseplants--BUT--it would be
hard to choose which three....
EX: Those big plants with the long fronds by my LR winfow are orchid Cactus.
A pain in the butt---until they bloom. Then I forget all the thorns and the weight
and the ugliness of the whole plant.

I have a roofed over patio outside the LR and DR windows--so I never get bright light.
Besides the roof--I also have 2 old maple trees in the back yard.
Somehow--the plants make it. lets face it--they are all kind of 'resting" anyway.

blomma--

I once grew out 3 Day Lilies from seed someone gave me.
It took 3 years for them to bloom.

I have oodles of seeds from the Frans Hals DL--as well as a red one and the Stellas.

With winter upon us here its refreshing to see such beautiful flowers...cant wait till spring!

The 41 were only in the house. I also had a commercial greenhouse full of plants, including epis and other succulents, plus African Violets.

The photos were taken with a film camera, scanned and uploaded.

You are right that it would have been hard to choose---at that time. But I had my fill of indoor plants since I had the greenhouse. Now, all my perennials have been replaced by irises and daylilies, and their babies.

Last photo is inside the greenhouse. Wish I had taken more photos inside.

I also have seeds of Frans Hals but most of mine are fancy Daylilies since I hybridize. Actually, the seedling of my Frans Hal is nicer in color than its parent.

1] DL and iris seedlings that blooomed at 14 months.
2, 4] Seedlings
3] Frans Hals seedling
5] Seedlings before blooming in photos 1. Iris seedlings on the right of it.

I believe that the reason my DL ad irises bloomed early at 14 months is due to all the rotted horse manure I dug in the Fall before planting in the spring. Others planted 3 years earlier without that much manure took 2 and 3 years to bloom.

WOW--Your Frans Hals is magnificent!Yjt orange/red is to die for.
And--did it grow out this color from seed from a regular, yellow/orange Frans Hals?

I am just curious. NOT going to go into growing any DL's from seed.

I have a couple clumps of an amazing "Ditch Lily"--but the blooms are double and triple.
Also--one of them grew 5' tall. Massive leaves, blooms and roots.
I thought it was very pretty.

Your thoughts, please! Gita

Gita, The Ditch Lily you have is Kwanso. I almost purchased one but found out it is too weedy for me. It is pretty.

The seedling came from seeds growing in a pod on Frans Hals. It was crossed with a red daylily.

1] Frans Hals
2-5] Unregistered seedling crosses that are under evaluation.

Why not sow your seeds. The blooms will not be all the same. Warning: It is addictive.

SOOO--my "Monster Lily" actually has a name!!!!!

I don't remember planting it there--but it grew and i always noticed
how massive the leaves were. Then, last year, it really hit the roof.

Later--I dug it out and planted it in another area--as it was getting too big
for this side bed.

I have had a similar DL (same one?) by my split rail fence in a bed in the
back of my hard. It is smaller--but, them again, it is growing under extremely
tight conditions. They both look the same to me.

I have a lot of the old, red DL's--everywhere...they are clled "something...volunteer".
I have a struggling mauve Lily--which is slowly being taken over by my
spreading clump of Shasta Daisies.

1--Here's the other "Kwanso" Yes??? by the back fence
2--Here's the red DL.
3--Here's the Mauve one--I love this one. need to dig it out and give it a better spot.
4--Here'sone I grew out from seed someone gave me. "Ap4ricot Ruffles"
5--Here's the other. She just ID'd it as "NWOMxKK

Both of these have been growing in a pot for years. I just, finally, planted them into
a bed--they should be happier there.
My available space is so limited.....

Thanks, Gita
