**Sweet Interruptions** Room 265

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love the video Jaye. I let the boys watch it, and Rory told me that he could read the bad words, but he knows not to repeat them or he gets a spanking.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

As long as the boys think it's funny! So you don't use soap? Lol!
Some of my cats can be quite vocal like that LK!

Thanks Sis Kathy. Will your daughter get another 'friend' for Kaden. Do hope Kaden comes home to you and he'd have all the furry friends he need.

Thank you our Chippewa sistah! Much love for those armwraps.

Marion, when I read your post, the faucet's turned on again!
To think that someone we love has a great connection up there and will look out for Rudy.
Remember when you told us about why you love ladybugs?

A while ago, we decided to waste our time at WM, then a mindless leisurely lunch after that.
Within a few seconds after getting in the truck, there was this little cricket out of nowhere, sitting on my right thigh. Kel wanted to know if I'd let it out.
Told him that I'll wait till I find the right spot. Not in the middle of nowhere.
Stayed on my lap all the while, not moving, and ten minutes later we spotted a grove of trees ahead. Told Kel that would be the right spot.
Rolled down my window, and my new friend hopped on to the window, then hopped down and off to the woods.. The strange thing is, we heard this loud mass sound, of crickets chirping when it took off!!!
Somehow that brought me so much comfort, as I believe it's Rudy's spirit telling me she's okay.
If our Lord can make use of dreams, humans.. pets.. to comfort us in our grief, why not insects.

Kel buried Rudy in a sunny spot, between the pawlonia and our only oak tree. I'd be planting a clematis on her grave later. He said he'd built a mini pergola for her where the vines can grow on, but I don't think he'll have the time, so I'll just get a trellis.

Funny how such a small creature can bring us comfort.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

How well I remember about my ladybugs. Strange as it may seem I also had a incident with a fly when my brother passed. We were at my niece's home having lunch. This fly kept flying around but would only light on me or my niece. Someone commented it was Joe telling us he was free. When my family left to drive back to Detroit to get our flight
home lo and behold there was a fly in the car. My kids said it was Uncle Joe telling me everything was okay. We passed through customs and just before we crossed into the US, the fly lite on the window near the top, my son lowered it just a little and away it flew. Moral, I firmly believe!! Rudy was telling you with the cricket.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

What would I do without sistahs like you all here.
I know Rudy's just a cat.. and so were Rimau and Be'be' and Ali my dog. Yet you took the time to validate my griefs.
Lord knows I'll be worse than this with a child.
(((((((((Sue))))))))))))

I needed to hear that visiting fly story Marion. Kel's at work now, and I'll read this to him in the morning.

In fact, the way the cricket kept so still on my lap, was exactly the way Rudy would sit. She won't budge, until I tell her to move.

No sound in the Buffkin house, except for the tv and the humming of the ceiling fans. All the furbabes are in their favorite spots and just staring at me now!! Guess they're wondering when Mama would quit crying! This is perfect time for them to misbehave, and I won't even fuss... lol!!

Goodnight sistahs. I'll be better tomorrow. Love you all.
.

Nature is amazing. Furbabes offering their quiet solace. Maybe grieving in their own way. When I lose one I cry for a long, long time. Each one is so special.

Have a peaceful Monday, ladies. ♥

Ol' Stinky is finally blooming again. I've been (im)patiently waiting.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning sistahs.

Carole, I don't know of anyone here who has that plant. Is this the one called "Starfish Plant"? If it is, then thank you!! You've just confirmed that carrion plants do stink!
The bloom is amazing. I bet you took that picture with a telephoto zoom lens from 10 ft. away! Lolol!

What are your plans for the boys today LK? I'm sure they'd keep themselves happily occupied as long as Granma has plenty of snacks!!

Three cheers for Sara!!! Hip hip hurray!! Hip hip hurray!! Hip hip hurray!!
She might be taking after Michael and me later!! Yellow is almost gold. Think purple and gold Sara.
Sis, I hope she makes great good friends in school.

Chores done, coffee's gulped down.. will try to be diligent at getting some swap blocks done.
Yep,hoping it to be an uneventful, peaceful day for me.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

thanks everyone. i'll tell her what you said. I cant believe I;m alone!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Enjoy the quiet times, and rest that back Kathy!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK, you can't tell Kathy to rest her back.. she'd do just the opposi...

Sis Kathy, do some weight exercises... weed later... prepare a flower bed.. good for your back :D

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

need someone to go see jersey boys with me. Michael won't

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Jaye I used to have carrion plants when we liven in FL many many moons ago. A great aunt gave them to me. Mine had a six-eight inch bloom.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Are they easy to grow?

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

This bloom just opened this morning. It's 13" across from tip to tip. The plant is Stapelia gigantea, Giant Starfish Cactus.

They aren't terribly difficult to grow as long they stay dry in the winter and get good direct sun in the spring and summer. And they can't take freezing weather so this baby comes inside over the winter. I like the looks of it even when it's not in bloom. I'm weird. :)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Can't help you there Sis Kathy! Call me when Eric Clapton comes to town!

From "snags" to this.. nah..you're not weird Carole. Lol!!!! You're just one of those that live for the unusuals. Nothing wrong with that.

Karen, how are you today? Been doing any sewing lately? Christmas is not too far off!

I said I'll try to sew.. but looks like ripping is in order.
Anyway, I'm supposed to bring another kitty to the vet, so I might 'revive' from there!
So hard to let go of previous day's broken pieces and start anew. Lord willing, He'll give me tomorrow. :D

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Arrrggghhhh called up the vet's office. Techie said there are already 50 patients in line with their humans!!! Tomorrow then. :(

In the meantime.. sewing sistahs.. check this out. http://www.joann.com/ottlite-high-definition-craft-plus-floor-lamp/prd27998/?icn=Home&ici=Slot1-3

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I sometimes lose track of myself on the threads. I had meant to comment about that adorable little red-headed girl. What a cutie pie!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Doing good Jaye thanks. Trying to get started on the birdhouse block swap, I'm waaaaaay behind. Need to find a pattern.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye, that is a good price on that light!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Karen, you're not the only one!
I keep changing my mind.

Yes LK. Kel said that's he's redoing the sewing lights, from a single bulb to all fluorescent tubular bulbs. Hmm... but I'd need it IF I hand quilt.
I think he just doesn't want me to enjoy myself today :))

Carole, my ex has 2 redheaded great nephews. Both their parents are brunettes.
When the first one was born, their mama would blame it on the milkman.
Second one.. the mailman.
Thank God, the youngest is a brunette, if not his nephew will just have to follow suit with his threat of leaving his wife if it happened for the 3rd time!!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

thanks carole, but if you had to live with her then you wouldn't think she was so cute

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

It must be that red-head thing, Kathy. Does she have a temper?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

oh yes, but she knows better with me

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

DH went in for his breathing test today and did well on them, but have to wait to see what doctor says. His oxygen level is low when he walks around, but is fine when he is sitting. No wonder he sits a lot. LOL Going to order oxygen for him and will see how that helps. Once more we have a waiting game. Hope this oxygen doesn't put a bigger hole in our budget. Maybe I could take a few wiffs of it myself to get me going.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh Pegi... God truly gave you a wonderful sense of humor, to make coping bearable!
A friend who loved to go barhopping during the weekends would go to work on Mondays with severe hangovers.
She told me that before she start her piecemeal job (sewing), she'd go to the nurses' station and inhale some oxygen! Said it helped her make her quota for the day!!

Okay sewing sistahs.... I need input.

Kel's second cousin just gave me his late mum's clothes, asking to turn them into a memory quilt. I don't have the heart to say no.
The pants are stretch polyester (the thick woolen kind), 4 different colors plus a purple and pink satin dresses.
Any tips on sewing them??? Never had to deal with stretch fabric.
I'm thinking of simple log cabins with the satin in the middle.
Something fast and easy. Will be doing the top only.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Stretchy fabrics can be tricky to sew. I would get some sort of iron on stabaliser for the back. I think Karen made the t shirt quilt, maybe she has better advice.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks LK.
So that means I'll have to use stabilizer first before cutting, or before piecing?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Probably before cutting, to reduce the stretching.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks LK.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No problem, you might want to go to the sewing threads and ask them what the best way to handle that is.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I did a preliminary cut bigger than the final piece..about 1 inch bigger than needed. Then cut the stablizer about 1/2 inch bigger and apply to back of piece. I use the thinnest interfacing I can find. When ready do the final cut then sew together. You can sew the blocks directly together or use framing around each piece. I cut all different sizes based on 4 " so 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 on up by 4 inches. Goes together like a jigsaw puzzle but is more work. Easiest is just 12 1/2 by 12 1/2 for every piece. Any fabric will work I made one that was t shirts, jerseys, jackets, shorts, and even a baptisimal towel.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Jaye if you want to do the first cuts, say 14 x 14 and then send to me, I have a large press to put on the interfacing, goes really fast. I can then cut the final pieces because I have all the templates for sizes and send back to you. Or I can even use my serger to sew together, that's how I do mine as it's so fast and easy. What ever you prefer as I don't mind at all and will only take me a couple days.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the offer, Karen. I truly appreciate it.
Problem is, the pants are made of thick knit fabric. I will have to cut the legs' seams and that would leave them much narrow.
My machine do have that mock overlock setting.. for stretch knits. I'll just have to fiddle with that and take my time pressing the stabilizer to the garment. I am not going to be sewing it directly to the backing. Bradley. said his husband (you read that right) want to put their touch on the quilt., by tying it.
Do they make stabilizers with adhesive just on one side?? I don't know.. I always get those double sided, then pressed and peeled off for appliques!! See, I'm a novice at dressmaking!!
Karen, won't a heavy stabilizer works better for heavy knits?

Bradley knows he's not getting it back till after the holidays. This will give me plenty of time to experiment.

Signed.
Scared, confused but willing to give it a try!
