Happy Birthday, Mr. G.

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

Happy Birthday Mr G 4 years old is a really good age for a dog, no longer a puppy, but still in really good health.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Happy Birthday Mr. G. Hope you got a lot of opportunity to romp.

Thomaston, CT

Happy Birthday to a lovely boy!

Suey's tonsil was still enlarged at yesterday's exam....vet put her on antibiotics, will examine her in 2 weeks...if tonsil is still swollen, she'll need a biopsy....praying she doesn't.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh My!

My DD1 had to get a steroid shot in her throat yesterday--throat was very swollen and her fever wasn't going down with antibiotics, so her four best friends took her to the ER. She could talk within an hour of that. Makes me wonder if they do that for dogs.

South Hamilton, MA

Hope that your DD improves.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks. The good thing about youth is the ability to bounce back, so I think she's much better now.

Thomaston, CT

Glad she's feeling better, Rosemary.......Suey acts fine, just hoping it's an infection for her also.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Please let us know how she does.

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

So I'm working outside this noon and hear a low whine. I don't think much about it. The window is open and I figure Bear is bugging someone for something so I kind of ignore it. I don't hear it again until I get near the foundation of the burned house. We've got it torn down to the floor with a section of floor pulled up with nothing but whatever thin plywood was laid down underneath the floor. I walk over and what do I see? Bear under the floor standing in water just above his belly, and stuck. Another guy and I got a pry bar and hand saw out to make a big enough hole so that we could get a rope under him to help him climb out. I'm sawing a 2x8 while trying to hold one hand over his eyes and sawing with the other. He's been in the water long enough that he's starting to shiver. Once we got him out he made a beeline for house.

He got washed in the shower. We have a handicap shower with a shower head on a hose. He doesn't really like getting washed, but the bottom half of him was all mud and who knows what else. The top half had cob webs and saw dust. anf I wanted to get warm water on him to warm him up. He doesn't struggle with you when you are washing him but doesn't help either. He's like trying to wash a wet bag of cement on legs, but heavier.

He didn't get injured and I just wish he'd bark when he needed help.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh my! I'm so glad it turned out OK, but I wonder why he didn't send out a warning bark even. Do dogs think we can hear what a particular whine means? Did he not recognize he was in danger there? Good thing I'm not a dog psychologist because they can be hard to understand.
Did he stay close by you after the ordeal, or does he act like there was nothing wrong?

Wow Doug that sounds scary! So glad Bear came out safe and sound!!

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

@ Rosemary. No more than usually. He tends to have butt trouble anyway, as in he's up mine.

Whining and head on my lap is the way he generally communicated with me. He does have a different whine for I want something like to go out from I'm really excited we are going for a walk, and a sort of different one for pay attention to me.

The problem here is that he could look out a little window and see me, so I think he assumed I could see him. I think until he started to get cold it was more "come let me out" opposed to "I'm scared".

Oh, poor baby! Glad he wasn't hurt!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I was thinking, Bear must have been somewhat scared even if he could see you, Doug, but how nice that he is so trusting.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

We're takeing Clifford to the vet. He has been coughing with reverse sneezing and sort of kennel cough symptoms several times a day since the weekend, but not looking like the videos of the little dogs, either. He's otherwise OK. Wish we could get it on video to show the vet. He's up to date with his immunizations.

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

Dog flu maybe?

I hope he feels better soon and whatever he has is minor.

Hope Cliffy is okay Rosemary!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, and thanks for the link. So far, just getting him checked out is my goal since he doesn't jump into the car by himself.

Thomaston, CT

Hope Cliffie is OK.....I had Suey get the flu vaccine last year, & will do so this year as well, since she does go into the kennel.....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

We held off with the vet, though I am still worried. I had no idea flu was so predominent for dogs. I've known about it in horses. if Cliffie doesn't stop coughing and retching in another day or so, I'll walk him to the vet.

Thomaston, CT

Good idea!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

We think he's looking a little perkier and less coughing and sneezing, so the cold or flu idea seems likely.

Thomaston, CT

Glad to hear he seems better!

Thomaston, CT

Update on Suey....she had her left tonsil removed today..it was sent out for biopsy....she may be able to come home tomorrow afternoon......

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Remember that you promised her bacon ice cream! Why didn't they take both tonsils?

Thomaston, CT

Well, only one tonsil was enlarged....they didn't want too much bleeding since she just finished 16 rounds of chemo, and is still a little anemic.....biopsy should be back by Monday. She's pretty perky, glad to be home & sleeping on my bed! Has to eat watered down food for a week.....this morning I'm walking her & she grabbed a big hunk of grass & swallowed it before I could pry it from her mouth....oh, well.......

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Must have thought a salad would make her better.

Thomaston, CT

She's a grass eater, always has been......this morning I gave her some watered down cottage cheese, followed by a spoonful of honey that the vet said to give her....guess the honey is healing for her throat.

Thomaston, CT

Very bad news...the tonsil cancer is very aggressive & metastatic......will be treating with meds, but a few months is all she has......just don't know what I'll do without her......

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Marilyn, I am so sorry that Suey is that ill! Praying for a miracle, whatever it may be. You will make Suey feel comfortable, no doubt, and I do believe dogs feel gratitiude. Perhaps even unknown now, some new channels of love will open.

South Hamilton, MA

Marilyn--I am so sorry! She has been so good for you. I hope that she can be comfortable.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Suey will send you a new companion. Be open to it. (My heart breaks for you.)

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

I'm sorry for you and Suey.

Thomaston, CT

Thank you so much.....I know you've all been through this, & it's wrenching. Am praying for a miracle as well. The meds have a pain reliever in them, along with a tumor suppressant, so I'm hoping for a few good months with her.......

South Hamilton, MA

Glad for the pain remover.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Oh Marilyn I can't believe I'm reading this. Sooo sorry for you I so know how it feels and my heart is breaking for you. Suey has been blessed you have you for her mom!!! ((((♥♥♥)))

Thomaston, CT

Thank you, Ronnie....it's just heartbreaking for me.......

So Sorry, I feel. Mr G. has a knee cap loose. No ligaments or muscles to keep it in place. 650 for sugrery and I dont have the money.
