(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Decided I'm not going to wait any longer, Winston will have his lump removed on Thursday.

Thomaston, CT

Please let us know how he's doing, Ronnie!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I will, thanks. I may have to reschedule until the following Tuesday, our friends funeral is Thursday morning. :(

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

Condolences on your friend and good luck to Winston.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Doug!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

So sorry about your friend. Winston will do fine.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Memory. I hope so...

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Are you going to have a biopsy done?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Yes Memory I am.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

It is expensive, but in this case, I think the peace of mind is worth it.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Yeah I do too!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Ronnie - Surgery is today? Wishing Winston a quick recovery and an awsome scar that he can brag about!

Thomaston, CT

Have been thinking about you & Winston daily....hope he'll be fine soon!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks guys I dropped him off a bit ago. Some more issues have come up and we are hoping they are just coincidences. A lump on his toe and another on the other hip. I just told them if they need to come off just go ahead but let me know if the toe needs to be amputated.
keeping my fingers crossed he just has some allergies to something.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Please let us know when he comes home.

In my thoughts and prayers

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Definitely extending warm wishes and prayers for Winston. Have the lumps been biopsied?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Winston is home with 9 stitches. Fairing pretty good, out of sorts but okay. He ate a bit and finally just settled down, hopefully for the night. Vet said biopsy should be done by Friday. She won't guess in either direction. Not sure if that is a good sign or not!

Now the trick to keep still for a week until the stitches come out !!

Thomaston, CT

Poor Winston....9 stitches is a lot.....Does anyone have any experience with porcupines? One has been hanging around down the bottom of my hill for the last several days....at first, he was walking in circles, so I called the police....they said he ran away when an officer approached.....yesterday, he was sitting up like a dog eating something....don't know if this is normal behavior or not......

South Hamilton, MA

I think that they are usually nocturnal.

Thomaston, CT

Yes, that's what I thought, but one of my airedales had to have a face full of quills removed & that was during the afternoon, so they must be around....didn't see mine yesterday, so either he's moved on, or was relocated by someone...maybe the dam rangers....I'll have to ask them.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

From what I read they are primarily nocturnal
would not want to get a snout full of quills

Thomaston, CT

No way! Jazz was a tough old gal, never whimpered.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Salem was feeling his age today.

South Hamilton, MA

Is his stiffness getting worse? Poor Kitty.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Winston's biopsy came back negative for cancer!!!
We are hoping to be looking at a pressure point granuloma from not wanting to sleep on a bed or the couch! He will finish up his antibiotics, and we just have to watch and make sure he doesn't continue to get more that may require stronger and longer antibiotics since then it could be from a bacterial or viral infection.

I am so unbelievably relieved, too tears! Now to convince the big nut his 160# need to lay on the mat!!

THANK YOU ALL for the prayers!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

yay!

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

That's great news. Many big dogs seem to want to sleep directly on the floor or ground. In the case of Bear I think it is because he gets too warm.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have happy tears, too! Maybe you could start him on a yoga mat - that is almost floor.

South Hamilton, MA

Great! I wish I had some helpful suggestions. does the vet have them?

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

I just had a thought how about a piece of carpet.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

He ate the last yoga mat I had! LOL The piece of carpet is a good idea, I need stuff that is cheap so I can replace it if he chews. Funny he never chewed the couch like Atticus did but he likes blankets and dog beds.

I have a cot like bed I purchased a few months ago and he won't go near it. It's brand new but never thought to save the packaging so can't even send it back. If anyone would be interested I would gladly pack it up and send for postage. http://www.amazon.com/Coolaroo-Large-Steel-Framed-Brunswick-Green/dp/B000P7JKD6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379765159&sr=8-1&keywords=coolaroo+dog+bed

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Ronnie - A shelter or rescue near you would love the bed and you could take a tax deduction.

If you have a Ocean States Job Lots or Job Lots near you - they have inexpensive outdoor carpeting quite often.

Thomaston, CT

Happy, happy news for all of us! Hope you find a bed to his liking!

South Hamilton, MA

Happy finding a bed is a problem, not the other. funny that he doesn't like it, does it have a funny smell?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

No funny smell...we even tried the crib mattress, no go...

Don't know why I didn't think of the shelter :) I take stuff there all the time.

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

With Bear where he sleeps is temperature related. When it cools down in the fall and winter he sleeps on the bed with me mostly. When it's warmer he sleeps on the floor spread out. In the winter after his coat grows it's under fur I've seen him lay a good part of the day in the garage where it's below freezing.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Cliffie has pressure point granuloma, has had it almost since we got him. Vet says not to worry. He has a soft pouf but he often sleeps on a hard surface anyway. I am so glad Winston doesn't have cancer.

We went to take our DS out for a birthday dinner tonight. When we came back Cliffie hasn't eaten the treat we offered him, but had helped himself to an entire, fully wrapped package of pressed sunflower seed "bread." It's all seeds. He had to reach pretty high to swipe it too. Who'd ever think a dog would eat the stuff my kids avoid?

South Hamilton, MA

Cliffie has a better sense of nutrition?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Yikes that a lot of fiber!!!
