first time (hanging garden)

Madera Acres, CA

Hello purpleinopp..I was having doubts yesterday & almost felt like transferring it from the topsy t. to a bucket but (we gotta see how these things do) I myself & WeeNeL are curious to how good this thing works.so we will see..its in competition with a "roma" plant & they are about the same size.

One of the funnest things for me is gona be my mystery bellpepper..Here's the story-i purchased a container with 6 bellpeppers (all diff types) I gave away 3 I'm at my limit for space.so I'm not sure which 3 I kept.these are seperate & younger then my green bells.the variety had
CHOCOLATE,MANDARIN,IVORY & a few others I can't recall..I will be super pumped to show my kids these colorful ornaments hanging from the plant..we still have scorching heat over here in the valley of Ca. So they shood produce enough to enjoy hopefully..now we wait.lol

Fun!! Sending good vibes!

The good thing I've learned about our sudden transition to tropical rain forest this year is that hanging stuff is probably under something, at least a little, so less subject to drowning. Always knew I'd never have to go looking for hanging pots, the way others can get blown around in a storm. I've got almost 30 of them this year, but all ornamental stuff (in my eye.)

And you know, if that turvy isn't drying fast enough, I think it would withstand having a couple holes poked in the side. Do you have anything that propagates easily from cuttings? If so, you could then also stick stuff in those holes, to take root and help use the water.

I've done this ornamentally, but as a side-effect, they do dry more quickly. Perfect for someone who likes to give everybody a drink daily, and for those hanging exposed in this summer of every day rain.

See the holes in the sides? I'm in the process of filling all of them with stuff that has small stems, and propagates easily from just being snipped and stuck in the 'dirt.' Took these pics a few days ago. Thought that Hemigraphis (purple waffle plant) in the 2nd pic was a goner, but it's perked up!

Hope this helps you a little and you can adjust the soil and watering to cope with this way of growing.

Think weve got another scammer on board folks so be careful, this has happened to me just a few days ago on another forum and another member picked it up for me and reported it.
I could be wrong but have a gut feeling NOT.

Best regards. WeeNel.

Need answers.oh how I wish I was in the same time zone as some of these folks on DG.
WeeNEL I'm feeling real confident that my plants have this disease.I read that it starts a the bottom turning leaves yellow & it has done jus that.the plant looks healthy but everyday when I get off work I have more yellow leaves at bottom only.u probly can't see much cuz I pull them off.oh boy.Gardening is fun but hurtful.

My next question would be can I still get more fruit or try to see if it will still grow.I understand there is no treatment..

Plants that take root easily from a cutting, and have small enough stems to live 'through' a hole like that can be used. What plant are you trying this with? I've been having a blast playing with these hanging pots with holes, especially since a lot of what was planted in the ground is drowned, dead or dying.

When facing an emergency Thumb, I would just caut out the affected stem's / branches.
I could not make out how bad the problem was But looks like several things, could be over feed with fertilisers, could be cold night temps, could ne damage at the main stem stopping water / nutrients, ect reaching the brown stem, could be many things BUT I would still cut off the damaged part and BURN it till you find the real problem.

I've just removed most of the bottom leaves from my Greenhouse Tomato's as the weather has cooled at night here, the leaves are going yellow with a few showing sign of a purple tint at the veins But I'm still convinced it's the drop in temp, so watch this space, it's also been a poor crop of fruits this year too and many gaRDENING FRIENDS FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE ARE STRUGGLING DUE TO THE STRANGE WEATHER CONDITIONS, phewwwww, WHO WANTS TO BE A GARDENER eh!!!!!. Dont know what is happening here but I aint changing it now, LOL.

Sorry not been back earlier today but weve had power down and from TV, California is a blaze, Please all stay safe, thinking about you all in this area.
Best Wishes.
WeeNel.

Oh yeah its still pretty hot & fires everywhere.we get a little break today with temps at 93.I finally took off the shade cover that was over myplants.all my family tells me why do u put that over them tomatoes love heat (yes) they do but I've learned temps over 96 degrees starts shutting down the plants & flowering/pollination etc.but yeah I pulled back the cover.gonna let get direct sun till winter.
Yeah I hope all is well & wish the best for the families effected by the wildfires.that's one thing that sucks about summer around here.
