Found out why this DL which was supposed to be El Desperado looks like it does.
I think I received the baby which parentage is El Desperado and Ferengi Gold... called 'Bridgeton Good Cheer' http://www.daylilies.org/DaylilyDB/detail.php?id=146823&name=Bridgeton%20Good%20Cheer
what do you all think???
SUMMER 2013
Nice Pics, Marilyn! I see what you meant about the lilies- your pink looks like a Martagon on steroids...beautiful!I gave you Achillea Ballerina and Stachys Hummelo, btw... And thank you for the lovely plants you brought-- I'm looking forward to seeing them in their glory.
The cairn is due to be revised. I do think it's lovely, but it seems too small and too regular for its spot. When the daylilies in front of it bloom, it will be dwarfed. Also, a lot of the stonework around here is very old, nearly two centuries, and some is quite random. We'd like more of that chunkyness and eccentricity in the cairn. Our stone guy is lovely and completely gets it, wants to wait until he sees what happens in the next couple of weeks as the DL's come into their own. I almost wish we could put this one somewhere else where it would work better...
He's also adapting a low stone wall into a cooking area, with a charcoal grill in it. That's coming along well, we should have it by next week.
And I do love the birdbath he made!
it's not under any tab yet Ronnie.. great shots all.. glad you got it to work Louise!!!
Lovely blooms everyone! Happy 4th to you all, be safe!!
I can't believe how many beautiful plants there are in the world--and among you all, how many of them have made their way into such unique and inspired settings!
Happy Fourth, all you gifted gardeners! ...and many more. :-)
Love the fireworks display!
Love the progress in Pam's already beautiful garden. What a pleasurable spot for an interlude. The last shot of the birdbath really showed it to advantage.
I am reading and learning more about building water features and stone walls. The little willow supposedly cannot go anywhere near the water or there will be a mess to clean. Then why are JMs considered OK? We have to get a tree guy in soon, to remove more of the mulberry trees and to trim up the tallest trees. I was nearly hit by a falling limb yesterday! Can you believe that last year the tree guy didn't get to finish our backyard because a neighbor called him over to cut some limbs on our dime? They moved out this week without a word said. They tried to take advantage of everyone.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.....my Mom always said that, Rosemary.... Jen, that DL looks close, but hard to tell from photos.....Pam, my next purchase will be a hearing aid! I wasn't even close to the names, but the plants are beauties & I thank you for them....yeah, the candelabra- formed lilies are my favorites.......I have about a dozen of them.....Patti, wow, firecracker bright & lovely garden gems!
Very pretty, Pam and Patti!
Happy Fourth to all! Hunkering down in the cool house here. Did a little work outside early, and was soaked in minutes.
Glad to know I am not the only one who couldn't stand working outside more than an hour early today.
weeded in the morning and started building the rock wall after lunch - well really using the dolly to move the stone up the hill to where the wall will be only set three large boulders - was drenched and worried about being dehydrated - the trick is to guzzle dill pickle juice and eat one - works every time.
then we went kayaking for a few hours.
tomorrow will be all wall building......
Bill, whaaaaaattt?! You were building a stone wall in this heat??!! Goodness Gracious, Man! You have gotta be from Krypton! Do they drink pickle juice there? BTW, you should see how pretty the pink stone you found for me in our woods looks with that pink astilbe behind it. Wowzer! Seriously, you be careful.....please.
Beautiful Robin & Bill!
Lovely lilies and that blue iris is scrumptious, RD!
Manicured and immaculate, Bill! Your pond is looking really good, and I like the blue clem on the bluebird box! How else would they know who is supposed to live there? 😌
Do I spy a pink & blue hydrangea?
Does anyone but Bill have a weed-free garden? Wait til I show you what a vegetable garden looks like after one is ill for a summer. It will give you nightmares, Bill! I really don't know where to start with it, so I've just decided not to do anything this year. LOL.
My dad used to do the pickle juice thing. Maybe I should switch from green and ginger iced tea!
Louise, you can see my weeds if you want, and I've only been a little sick this year :) It is hard not to look at the weeds from the pleasure of ac, especially since this was supposed to be my week to work in the garden.
The weather is so silly here! We are now having a heat wave, up in the 90's, and things are looking thirsty. All of June was a monson, last weekend we had over 1" of rain in just a day or two, now I have to water! All the rain predicted for our area has been just missing us, either to the north or the south.
A few things happening in the garden, lots more about to pop. The funny thing is, the 2 Platycodons I left in place are just about to do it, and the ones in the Blue Garden are growing well but way behind.
1: Because clumsy me broke so many of the Delphinium Bellmosum stems, I went out again yesterday and came home with D elatum Dasante Blue, a more compact deep blue. Veronica Sight-seeing Blue is in a pot behind the trellis. Also in pots V Austriaca, Penstemon Rocky Mountain Blue, and Clematis Arabella. V Sunny Border Blue has buds, and I want to see how the colors work together before planting any more.
2:. Ceratotheca Triloba, South Apfrican Foxglove
3: Pennisetum Karley Rose, Asclepias Tuberosa
4: Hydrangea Samantha and a volunteer Verbascum Wedding Candles, second year. I have no idea where the roots found room to grow between the rocks and other established plants!
5: Longer view of the lower lawn, showing the new PG Hydrangea standard and the Blue Garden. Still lots of empty spaces, and not a great impact yet, but bit by bit...
That area is a hot spot, and thankfully yesterday I finished it up for now. When the tall trees start to shade the middle lawn borders, I'll go back outside, but I'm doing inside chores until that happens!
Beautiful Pam!!
Beautiful, and so weed free! I just love those blue pots, Ollie's had a big sale recently with an extra 15% off everything at the register, but even with the sale $49.00 per pot is beyond my budget. My sister bought cheap plastic pots and spray painted them with car paint and clear sealer, nice but not the look of pottery.
Bill, I'm speechless.....what an Eden you have created....now you have to relax & enjoy it! Yeah, right......Pam, I like what you have purchased....here is a photo of my pink African Foxglove that I purchased at Select Seeds......I know it gets really tall....wish it would winter over, but it's a tropical......Verbascum....I think it's Sixteen Candles.... has gone crazy in the garden....has reseeded in 6 places!
Pam: the gardens are wonderful.Your hard work is paying off big time.
Ha ha... Weed free... Only that section! And only because it was done recently using lots of newspaper under the mulch! Isn't that one of your tricks, ge?
I've been painting plastic pots with Rustoleum. Last year I did a couple of faux terra cotta that stuck out like a sore thumb, just plain green, and left them out all winter. This year there was no sign of wear, so I bought a few more colors. We'll see...
OMG, today was soooooo hot! I got very little done, oh well. And tomorrow is supposed to be another one.
Help! My font is set at 20, but the posts are getting smaller and smaller. I just can't read anything without having to constantly pinch and expand and move each post fron side to side. Allmof the headings are fine, but what everyone writes is too small to read. Whaaaaaaat? Helllllllllppppppppp.
great shots Pam!!
Same thing, here, DB.
Lovely pics everyone!
Me too Louise, I hate this!!!
I do love Verbascum, hope mine reseeds like yours, Marilyn!
What a face on him! Looks like a toughie!
I've sworn off any more lilies because of beetles, but the Aurelians are intriguing. I may have to reconsider...
For some reason, lately I've been drawn to Apricot. Just love Luxury Lace and Storm of the Century!
Very pretty, Jen! Wierdness in the photos here as well....some are on the smallish side and some are much larger when you click through them.
My Luxury Lace is almost white....sort of a creamy ivory, no apricot color at all.
Marilyn, your pink African is stunning! The verbascum is pretty too.
Beautiful everyone!!
Must be something to the pickle juice theory my dad drank it too and was like and energizer bunny.
Not weed free here that's for sure, I named all mine...would you like to know what!!!???
