jo - check out the new series with kevin spacey on Netflix - house of cards - excellent.
victor can not believe you just saw girl with the dragon tattoo - best opening music score
Bill: I just got my first disc.
I just renewed my membership, took the summer off.
About the Dragon Tattoo .Its a series of films based on the books, made in Sweden, see if you can Netflix it.Much better than the US made.
Thanks. My kiddo will have to study too, but this makes a good list to work from. She started with Breakfast at Tiffany's and fell in love with Audrey Hepburn's style. Films like this by famous authors that are good in both genres are a real plus. To Kill a Mockingbird ought to be high up there. BF didn't want horror movies or we'd include The Shining.
Didn't have to include any foreign films. She had a foreign film club in high school. Really cute. Their first show was Lady and the Tramp in Italian. The restaurant scene was worth the effort.
If she liked Audrey Hepburn she will love Roman Holiday!
Yes, great Zep opening, Bill. Loved it.
I agree about the Danish Girl with a Dragon Tatoo series. Much edgier. Even my DH thought it was a bit raw.
Roman Holiday goes on the list!
that was a nine inch nails cover of zep

I cant believe no one has posted since August.
Where are the Breaking Bad watchers?
I just spent 2 weeks with the series on NETFLIX so I am caught up to season 5 .Now I know what all the buzz is about
NO spoilers now,I will watch the big ending after Sunday night.9:PM is just too late for me.I can view OnDemand the following day.
I never thought it would happen, but my daughters got me hooked on Psych. In spite of the spoof, I could tell that the treatment about cop fantasies and respect for what they do was genuine. It's fun to see Sybil Shepherd as the mom who does fitness for duty evaluations.
I watched the first season of BreakBad and it was just too violent so I never went back.
DD was so over the top about it I rented Netflix season 3 - present and am hooked.
Believe me the violence is addictive. The glamorous world of addicts and drug cartels is an eye opener. Poor creatures who start with the stuff.
Maybe I'll give it a try, but I am around that in my work, so entertainment for me has to be an escape.
Understandable. There are very few escapist programs that arent violent.
It's funny because I mainly like life affirming stuff or comedy and some of those are quite violent. It's impossible to say our work doesn't change us. I saw one episode of Law and Order but hated it because it wasn't realistic, especially when the psychologist testified. I think I could write those parts much better. I like Helen Mirrin in the Prime Suspect movies, and I know the Poirrot stories and movies. For crime mysteries I used to read the Linda Barnes novels, partly for how she writes about Boston. She actually came to sit in on one of our training sessions.
I also like anything well writtin.Breaking Bad isnt for anyone who likes a formula series.
It appeals to people who appreciate the art of a deal.
All the Law and Order shows are ho hum now that they are in the 20th round of repeats.
I did like L and O Criminal Intent when Vincent Dinolfo was the detective Goren.
VIncent D- (D'onofrio?) is great- I think he was the guy stuck under the subway train in 'Homicide', a really gripping episode.
DS is watching Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston is super, its good I just haven't had/ made the time for it.
'Lawless', a film about (based on real people) moonshiners in Franklin Co VA in 1920s. Very bloody, pretty good, not great but not a waste of time. Gary Oldman has a minor role, Shia LeBoeuf is a lead, and Jessica Chastain. Ends nicely, which is a surprise.
We have done the whole season 3 Boardwalk Empire.
Audiobook- House Rules by Jodi Picoult- Mainly about a 18yr old with Asperger's- really good writing, not formulaic in story, good readers . The story is told from the various viewpoints of five main characters, so there is more than one reader as well. 17 discs!
LOVED Boardwalk Empire.
Vincent D'nofrio was the alien in Men in Black #1.Came to earth in a saucer and assumed the look of the farmer whose field he landed in.
Wasn't he a riot in Men in Black??
'' Water with SUGAR....'
Whaaaaaa
Egger!!! I loved that. And lawnorder CI with him.
My son watches Breaking Bad, never got into myself though. I have heard a lot of people saying they love it.
I watched the first new episode of Parenthood and was a bit disappointed, nothing special about it. I do like Ray Ramano in it and hope his character stays on for a while.
Been watching DWTS and Valerie Harper is such an inspiration!
Egger !! I completely forgot. whaaaaa. The first MIB was the best.
While I'm at it I was seeing a new TV comedy ad for The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams.I didnt think much of it and sure enough when he was seen hyping the show all over the business I figured it was a dudd.
Sure enough.

Williams just isnt funny anymore, has gone the way of other 70's comics who only had to make crazy sounds. These days humor needs a more clever cerebral offering.

I keep meaning to watch Mindy Project with Mindy Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on The Office. She's talented.
Watched a movie with Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper- The Place Beyond the Pines. Kinda weird, kinda good, very dark, pretty involved plot. Reminds me of something that would have been a book.
I saw DWTS last week and was amazed by Valerie Harper. Inspiration indeed!!! I was moved by Tristan's emotional response to her.
I was too Jan!
Did anyone see the new Michael J Fox show? I was really disappointed :( didn't even finish watching it. Recorded the second one but haven't bothered with it yet.
Havnt seen the M J Fox show. The ads were pretty good.I guess I feel more admiration for him coming back to show biz, than appreciation for his humor on the new show.. He has had parts on The Good Wife and did great.
ge- did you watch the finale of BB last night?
I haven't kept up but I asked my kid for a recap= sounds like a great finale.
I did manage to watch the entire 5th season all day marathon on Sunday. I rarely stay up past 8PM but watched the final at 9 and went to sleep at 10. It didnt disappoint.
Everyone got what was coming to them.
When the series is summed up,WW started cooking meth to make money for his family so they would be comfortable when he died of lung cancer.
They couldnt spend it to change their life style while he was hauling in millions, and in spite of 80million dollars at the end of the season his family was no better off than when he was teaching Chemistry.Add on the constant terrors and periodic separation from the children they loved, doesnt look like a good deal to me.
I loved most of the characters in the series, especially the guy who played Mike,he has been a character actor for many years.
Aaron Paul has made a nice career for himself, but is in a new movie that is similar to BB in that its angry guys driving at top neck speed and crashing cars.I'll take a pass on the one.
It's a good story line. I appreciate a nice modern morality play!
ha ha ha.
Seems I really don't sit and watch tv anymore, I catch up online
I just finished MasterChef and was very happy with who won
Been watching DWTS and was hoping Snooki would be voted off 1st but she did really good the 1st week. Am amazed at Valerie Harper's strength and determination
CSIs premiere was last week and I didn't catch it till last night, I think this season should be the last, it's getting old
I find all the forensic shows repetitive. NCIS is a fave of mine because Mark Harmon is great eye candy.
I agree! Mark is eye candy.
NCIS is a fave of mine.
never got into that one, Mark is not my type
I don't know NCIS.
We did discover the BBC Masterpiece Theater modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes on Netflicks. It's kinda fun to see Watson keeping a blog. I see the Holmes actor is starring in the new movie, The Fifth Estate.
NCUS is a long running detective show.NCIS Los Angelus is added this year maybe I dont watch it.
NCIS rerunns are on all the time duering the day.
