And Critter -- you should take the Rhododendron Minnetonka http://www.mahoneysgarden.com/evergreen-shrub/rhododendron-minnetonka-rhododendron-minnetonka and the Rhododendron Chionoides http://www.mahoneysgarden.com/evergreen-shrub/rhododendron-chionoides-rhododendron-chionoides if you like -- I'm delighted to take them if you don't want them. They appealed to me because they are low-growing, so I thought they'd spread nicely on my slopes. (I put the correct spelling here in case anyone is having trouble finding them on-line).
Casual Thursday at Sallyg's
Happy and Critter I trust you all will work out final disposition! Thanks for the spelling corrections though most of these were 'snapped up' so quickly like the intrepid plant procurers we are that I won't bother to change my post, Throwing compulsion to the wind...whee.
Do have an azalea to add:
Tradition http://www.westonnurseries.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=plants.plantDetail&plant_id=129
clear pink hose in hose blooms in May. Gets wider than tall (ht 4').
Critter, do you think you will make it down? I have a white Bleeding Heart plant you can plant with your seeds from Terp in their neato little corral. They are starting to go dormant here. And they do like to grow beneath a mama plant...
Coleup, I'm going to try... have one thing I think I can reschedule... may not know until I get into the car (or not)... but Happy said she'd pick up for me. Thanks very much for the offer of the white BH... hopefully I'll do better with this one! I did have a pink one that overwintered in a pot, so maybe I've been putting them in a winter-wet spot. I'll put them up on a sloped part this time.
Wahoo! For a casual thing we've got a pretty good group coming!
CHAIRS- I have enough. Can't say they are all the fanciest...
FOOD and drink- consiumables will be in kitchen on counter, or stove, possibly in a cooler on deck, ''Free range'' for any utensils, plastic wraps, etc if I forget to put them out! I have chcken curry and rice, I think donner s bringing some Chinese=ey, Gita, fruit, somebody dessert....not trying to ask everybody to bring or coordinate, it'll work fine....and if ya get hungry we can get Ledo's or DOmino's
PLANTS- coleup may be setting up her items in front yard along Euonymus hedge See her for further instruction and payment.
DMAIL ME if you need a phone number, address,
Meadows Farms, one is located in Severna Park on Jumper's Hole Rd, not too far south of me, if anyone feels the need.
ADVICE SOUGHT_ will gratefully accept advice on my front yard- are the foundation bushes too big? any in the yard good candidates to put there instead? Paul- advice on siting azaleas. Is front too shady?
Blooming Now- milkweed, hydrangea, few DL, maybe orchid (Judy !!) , red epi
CUTTINGS- help yourself! will try to have some bags and clippers avail.
Sally -- I'm bringing the fruit and wine and maybe cake; Gita is bringing Latvian Pirags instead.
Wish I could be there.
Looks like Ric and I will be coming unless something unexpected comes up tomorrow. Really looking forward to just visiting without the swapping distraction. Don't think I ever get to just visit at the swaps. I'll bring some cheese and a bottle of wine as well.
Ok thanks happy, i got mixed up, been busy this week.
Tell Ric I'll make coffee
;^)
sounds like here will be a nice selection of beverages
& ^}
I'll brew iced tea- Oh maybe should look for mint....do you just put mint stems in with the teabags?
Holly--
I am glad you are coming--as that means i will bring something maybe you, or anyone else, can use.
I have a plastic grocery bag almost full of 2"' x 2" x 1/2" "Coreon" sample tiles. Different shades.
They are thick and heavy. Maybe someone can tile something with them? Like a small pad to set something on?
And--YES, sally--I am bringing the Latvian Pirags--but can cut up a c antelope if more fruit is needed.
I can bring a tub of "Hell-of-a Good" dip and some chippie things too.
This will be a REAL party after all.....and, YES! You bet there will be some plant giving and taking
going on.
Sally--I will throw about 4 lawn chairs in my car--just in case....
And--2 doz. Jumbo eggs it will be. Chapel Hill also carries all the "Tones" products--but just in the smaller bags.
Pretty reasonable....I think. Anyone in dire need of some of these?
Any more need for Pine Fines? Lg. bag--$4.99.
I better stop--got some more plants I bought yesterday to try and plant....somewhere....????????
Gita
1--Acalyphas--got 6 now. Will keep two. Sally keeps two.
Anyone else? I can p/u more tomorrow. .75 cents each. The whole Greenhouse is now "buy one get one free"....
2--Proteus now in second blooms--small and single.....
3--My round tipped leaves Clivia now in bloom. Much more intense,
4&5---"MY Walls" in the Estonian House's Courtyard. 4 stories high--all around--covered in
Boston Ivy that I started from some cuttings in the early 80's. It is mind-blowing--
ALL the walls covered in this beautiful green. And--almost no one remembers or knows who started it.
I was there last sat. for a Father's Day picnic. It was wonderful to go back there again.
Sally--I have different mints.....if you don't.
Spearmint is in my bed-by-the-shed. I can cut some off for you. G.
Sally, I'm confirming that I will be able to make it and will just come straight from work. If I can think of something easy to bring along that will be fine sitting in the car all day, I will - otherwise, I'll just have to be a free-loader this time around LOL. See everyone tomorrow!
I'll bring enough to cover Aspenhill -- no worries (not that anyone was worried)!
Your smiling face is your ticket!!! notihng else required!!! Just like no plants required for swapping. We never starve!!! IT'S CASUAL!!!!!
We'll be bringing a dessert (likely a carrot cake) and a jello salad. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier.
If you are bringing a cake, maybe I should bring veggies instead of cake -- but I'll also bring fruit. Make sense? Or does everyone want more desserts?
I'm coming pretty late (5:30 at the earliest, most likely at 6), so it probably makes sense for me to bring some sort of dessert.
Ok, I'll definitely not bring a cake. I'll bring healthy stuff.
I'll be coming later probably near 6, I would hope to be there by 5 though if I'm rolling through the day.
Sally--
Got you covered for:
--Pirags and wine (my food contribution)
--Plates(lg. and small)
--Bowls for soup or fruit (tsp's)
--Napkins
--Forks and spoons
--Glasses for wine, (tumbler size). Reg, size too--for cold drinks
--Stuff from Chapel Hill. and Richardson Farms.
--Acalyphas (4)
--Picked some Spearmint for your tea
--A couple chairs (??)
***Did i miss anything? Gita
Gita- the kitchen sink!! ROFL.
It's all good guys. Mark is busy till 5 or 5 30 so he'll be glad if he's not the last one to our own party LOL
Hey- it's just about the longest day of the year! Won't even get dark till after nine.
Coleup brought 'some' -ahem- plants and azaleas tonight You may look at the front yard but don't move anything cuz some are designated piles for people.
aspenhill- we discovered a lily you gave me, in bloom tonight, hope you can help me ID it. Have spiderwort two big clumps in bags for you- I think you said you'd be interested?
happy got beaucoup sedum Angelina and Blue Spruce for you, and tray of pink Bigroot geranium and some Biokovo geranium.
some extra plants come to mind please ask when you get here if you want:
white yarrow- free for digging but probably will look like carp if you move it this time of year.
couple pots of Carolina Allspice shrub.
couple babies of Peanut Butter Shrub.
'Frans Hals' DL in pot
If I make it, I'll bring a couple of white yarrow plants... potted them earlier, so they look good and are ready to plant out. I'll be making an 11th hour decision on coming... busy/tired enough this week that I'm not sure about making the drive., but I'm not ready to just say sorry can't do it either!
I threw a bag of tortilla chips and some pineapple salsa in the car this morniing. Easy, and even though just a chippy snack, I don't feel like such a loser bringing nothing at all LOL. Work has been absolutely horrible today, so I am SO looking forward to being with you guys to get my mind back on the nicer things in life...
I'll bring some hardy begonia. Please let me know if you'd like some. (I have plenty I can bring, but I don't want to bring more than people actually want.)

Perfect aspenhill thx!
Aspen -- the very word "loser" should not come out of your mouth! Perish the very THOUGHT!
Sally-I sent you a D-mail---please read......G.
Agreed, Happy! Nobody is allowed to call my friends losers -- including themselves! Plus, it's just plain wrong to lie.
Thanks to Happy's willingness to make this a joint, multipurpose expedition, I'll be able to make it for sure! Joyanna won't be joining us, though... she is having a little trouble transitioning from Disney to reality, and nobody else needs to be subjected to that! I bet she'll be back to Sunshine Girl by next week, but currently she's Partly Sunny with chance of temper tantrums. I'm just glad that's not her usual M.O.
Oh.. we did bake off a few "stained glass" freezer cookies, so I'll bring those and anything else that jumps into my hands.
Heehee. Sounds like a great party is a brewin!
LMK *quick* if you want a bundle of liriope (regular green, very sturdy stuff). Happy doesn't need it, and it's already dug (needed to go).
Got a call from Happy... I think her client call was late and/or ran long, so don't look for us before 5:30 or so.
So, I should compost the liriope? Maybe my new neighbor will be able to use it... she's a gardener, although she'll be using this summer mostly just to settle into the house and make plans for the yard. :-)
I'm not going to make it. If you brought anything for me you can leave it with sally or take it with you. Judy and gita I will mail you checks. Please DM me your address. I'm very very disappointed and hope to see your smiling faces before the fall. I put too much on my plate today, my eyes were bigger than my stomach.
Well--Paul--
Glad you made it anyway. It was nice to see you....
That plant trading sure killed the rest of the evening. Did not get to do "The Readings' activity.
It would have been most enlightening....interesting....and educational.
Hope you rest up after today. G.
Hope everyone arrived home safely, it only took us an hour and a half. Thanks for a great evening and Judy enjoy getting to spend the summer with the grands.
Sorry I missed something you had planned, Gita, but I sure did have a good time with all the plants Judy brought!
Despite our careful packing, we managed to pull out two too many pots onto my driveway, so I had to sort through and squint at all the tags to find the ones that were Devon's. Jim is happy.. he likes azaleas & rhodis, and I think he likes them even better because he knows I'm now able to dig most of my own holes out back! We'll see how many really make it down to NC... at least 3, maybe 5... I'll have Mom take a look around next week to see how many "holes" they have to fill. And the 'Rosebud' is for my niece, although I may up-pot it and grow it on until next year, since it should be blooming right around her birthday.
Sally, thanks so much for hosting another wonderful event!
Once again our driveway goes from nearly empty to looking like a nursery. LOL One of these days we may learn to not venture from home until everything is planted, but I doubt it. It seems like every time one us goes out we come home with the question, "It followed me home, where can I plant it?" or "won't this look nice in that bed?" The only thing worse than having one avid gardener in a house is having two. There is no one to say, "no". The good part is we usually don't weed each others plantings. LOL
Sounds like an awesome time!!
It was awesome indeed. Great to see Sally and Mark again after missing them last month, as well as getting to visit with everyone else who was there. Such an amazing selection of plants on the front lawn. We made it home a little before midnight. Sally's yard has such interesting plants, and very impressive hydrangeas in bloom. We had a great time, and certainly appreciate all the efforts that went into it.
And thank you, David, for noting that I had a typo with hydrangeas in gloom. Remember, I did see them by flashlight, so it might have been correct, too.

Many thanks to Sally and Mark for all the work. It was great to see everybody and tour Sally's garden. I had a wonderful time.
