I did not know that you can grow mint in water
SPRING 2013 #3
I don't think you can kill mint.....
Maybe growing in water keeps it from spreading ????
Nothing can stop mint!
mint is very hard to kill.
Thanks for the compliments on my pics, Marilyn. I have bought four different geums this year. I'm really liking them.
Jenn, your welcome. The earwigs wouldn't have caused the fungus, but I am Magin they can spread it from plant to plant once it's already present.
Karen
Karen, your garden is just glowing with blossoms. I love to know peony names if you have them. FYI my Misaka peony is an ITOH, so it's part TP and part herbaceous. It was the most expensive peony I have, so I wish I knew the original plant so it would be possible to avoid the mark-up.
Celeste, I covet the hosta On Stage.
Pam, your garden is so beautiful. Must feel good to see your work pay off.
Jen, the blossoms just keep coming. Clems are on my "someday soon" list. Not sure I can keep them flowering.
Oh My Gosh!, you guys! I have just had my first tour through the last two threads here, and it was so soothing and exciting at the same time. So much going on with us that I have not had time for doing what I love best here.....looking at everyone's beauties. WOW....I can't believe so many gorgeous blooms already! We will go to the farm today and I hope we haven't missed our peonies because of the rains. The last time we were there we didn't have any DLs open yet.
Thanks to you all for giving me such a boost! Be back soon for more eye candy! BTW, we have a contract on our FL house and will go down next month to pack it all up once we know his financing goes through. Eek!
Looks great Jo! I love that Sangria Punch Dianthus
Its realy more neutral.Camera makes a brighter pix.Dont know why.
Jo, your sense of color & design are wonderful! Louise, I'm happy there's a buyer for the house....sad, too, though! I know how i felt about our FL home. Hope things are blooming at the farm for you.....
Love the Baptisia!! Looks wonderful with the iris
Glad to hear the good news, DB. Bittersweet for sure!
That's a beauty of a stock, Pixie....love the scent from them. Jo, you just put another phlox on my list!
The early ones are so full and showy
peppermint twist phlox is doing well. I like the low flowers which don't get blown around.
I have a short phlox called Coral Creme Drop......very intense color that really catches your eye......
I just tried to find ( google ) varieties of early paniculatas.Mostly tall garden phlox .
I'll check out Coral Cream Drop.
ooo that's a nice one Robin...glad to see it's mildew resistant, I have major problem with that here on the phlox
I dont believe there is a mildew free phlox.I get some on new cultivars even.
I like the flowers & the lady bug. Hope that you are not getting too much rain.
No mildew on the phlox last year, but with this horrible rain........
Geez, Louise, I guess I might not be meeting you for lunch next year in Fort Myers. We'll have to make other arrangements!
No need to make other arrangements, Terri - we will be down there for Jan, Feb & March one way or the other.
The buyer backed out today when he found out how much insurance you have to pay down there for a house so close to the water. We weren't very comfortable that he could get the financing anyway, so this is for the best. We are happy he let us know sooner than later when we were halfway down there to pack things up. LOL
Very disappointing, Louise.....hopefully the house will sell when folks start thinking of winter......
It's not a bad thing, Marilyn. We had the feeling he wasn't the right one. It will add some simplifying that we both need right now. We need to get settled and get back to normal life for us.
My peonies are opening and they are so beautiful. It finally stopped raining and today was so pretty. I can't wait to get outside tomorrow and get my hands dirty. Even the weeds will be fun to pull.
Does anyone have Royal Sunset climber rose? We lost one of the two I gave Hank last year. I'm not sure if I was zone pushing or if a vole tunneled under and exposed its roots to air. I think it is the latter, but I would like to know if someone in zone 5 or lower has one. The other one died back, but is filling out well now. I need to take some photos tomorrow.
Jen: Rosellas Dream is pinker than your NOID.All lilies are great.
Lovely lilies Jen!!
Louise things are looking good! Love the clem!!
Looking good!
The red lily beetles are out in force here, more than I can pick off on a weekend. I'll bet anything the helpful bugs have roamed elsewhere and the state stopped funding. That means I'm moving on to plant other plants that attract nice insects.
It is fun to see people's blooms that are both ahead and behind us here.
Marilyn: Its just supper to see the abundance on plants that get plenty of rain.Lilies have more buds and most other flora is much changed from last spring.
Have stopped trying to grow lilies because of the leaf beetle.
Too bad, too. I was enjoying their place in the summer bloom season.

Those are both beautiful, Marilyn! I've been looking at John Davis if we don't replace Royal Sunset on the other side of the arbor.
Jo, i completely agree with you about the abundance with the rainy spring! We have probably 1,000 blooms on the clump of 1880 roses. Can't wait to see them in bloom. They are almost invasive with so many little guys coming up in the middle of my paths.
I love this "Olympic Fire" mountain laurel. The colors are so stunning! Second shot is peonies and the Grand Takeover of the blue tradescantia in the Friendship garden.
No....I did not flatten Bailey and Carli LOL. My ipad just doesn't work with the photos! Drat!
