Thanks for sharing, David. You always have interesting plants for us to see. I love that Dracocephalum argunense "Fuji Blue'.

And thanks for a new June thread! What a wide range of lovelies we all grow!

Roses I'm so glad you got your camera back so you can share your delicious yard with us.

Gita, so sad about the neem. Hope you don't loose too many plants. Might help to spray wash off as much as you can? Not sure and I know you are working today.

I once accidentally sprayed a Japanese Maple with Flea Spray! I had moved it out into the roadway where there was lots of sun so I could get a good look and do a thorough spray of both upper and lower leaf surfaces. I rarely use any chemicals and thought the spray bottle I had grabbed in frustration with flatid leaf hoppers contained water and a bit of insecticidal soap. Boy was I wrong. Those beautiful delicate red leaves began to curl up almost immediately. Good thing I was there to see it and moving slowly....only lost half of the tree even though I immediately doused it with copious amounts of pure water. It did not leaf out again on one side, so I killed not only the leaves but the branches, too. It has taken 2 + years for that tree to come back to being a pretty little thing again. Have gone back to hand picking and squishing bugs that bug me. I think my plants are safer for it. lol

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

VA gets a head start on blooms... our campanula has not started blooming yet here in South Jersey. love your twinny peach snaps. I'll have to take some pics of what we have blooming. SallyG's mock orange is alive and well and is in full bloom now.

Greenthumb have you had any luck harvesting seeds from the Penstemons? They are hit or miss to come true from seed. I would love a sampler of your digitalis seeds.

Does anybody want bleeding heart seeds? I have alba and regular. Regular I could probably give you plants but my albas don't set as much because they are in a bed of Pachysandra.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Paul - I can probably give you some seeds of some of my native species of Penstemon. I do not collect the seeds from my established plants because I grow so many species and they tend to cross-breed. I can also provide seeds for some of my Digitalis. I have another 4 or 5 more species about to come into bloom. We really like Digitalis, and the deer don't eat them.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

I totally agree with you, that is what attracts me to them. Well whatever you can spare that'd be great. If you want to mix them I'm okay with that. Thanks so much.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Having gone to great lengths to track down seeds for Digitalis species rather than D. purpurea cultivars, I don't think I could bring myself to mix them. Besides, some grow 18 inches, others to 60, and you wouldn't want them growing side by side. You'll need to periodically goad me by D-mail as I currently have my hands pretty full.

Judy--
It is raining pretty hard here right now. Thunder rumbling all over.
Maybe it will wash off all the plants i sprayed. I only did the 2Tbs. per gallon dilution.
SO! I am simply going to believe that EVERYTHING WILL BE OK. I prefer to have that mindset....

Paul--If you are interested--I have Digitalis seeds for the white, pink, and deep pink/rose Foxgloves.
Will be happy to send these to you...

Oneothera is "Evening primrose--right?

I have some in my "YUK" bed--but the rabbits chewed all the tops off of it.
They also chewed all the lower leaves (as far as they could reach) from my cardinal Flower--
and also the tops off of some smaller sections of my Heliopsis daisy.

I quickly put some green, plastic fencing around that section of the bed--how I hate it!..
It detracts from the look of everything. I think there is at least ONE young rabbit doing all this.
Haven't seen the mama since spring. She is, probably, hatching the next batch of chewers.

You want to see what the rabbits do to my plastic fencing? They just chew a "door" into it.
Which I do not find until fall when I roll up all the fencing....

Like this---perfectly engineered....G.

wow, they are talented

I found a baby bunny in the lily and rose bed today

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes they are Primrose Only not particularly evening by species ..
I have a few small cottontails running around looking mostly ,, it's the Ground Hogs and Raccoons and Possums , and VOLES That do most of the damage .
I don't even want to near what happens when the Beetles get started ... my ,my , Lots of rain here lately and the next few nights are going to cold in the 40's ,. I could pass on that ,, really ..

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jen, you should tell your HAWK friend to start hunting rabbits. They cleaned out my baby rabbits big time and squirrel nests....so sad. The neighbor has been loosing chickens one a day only the heads off in the pen and all holes sealed. He finally put up a camera, it is a big coon but the camera did not show how he gets in. I guess nature can always find a way.

I am o.k. with critters, but even the thought of snakes freaks me out.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh my German Shepherd will take care of any bunnies that dare to enter the backyard. Never have any problems

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I'm with you about the snakes, JB. We had someone lose a huge black snake in the house. It was hanging from a planter and then somehow got away. I told my DH that if that happened here, and the snake remained at large, we'd have to move!!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Oh God, yes, move for sure. Scares me to death.

Here is one of the little freebies I got from Byrne Farm Market last week. They looked so sad and she gave me a couple. I think they are perennials but I need to check for sure. They were dying because of too much sun in the greenhouse. I stuck them in these pots and put them beside my jasmine on the NE side of the house. They are so pretty now. they are called
Osteospermum Margarita Bronze Bicolor.

I must look that up and see what it is for sure.
Unless Coleup sees this, then I know she will help me out. LOL I love that girl. She is my timesaver. She knows where everything is.

Also, remember I told you the pink tea rose was so pretty? I wanted to get shots before it rained but I did not, so here are the full bloom shots I got this morning. Remember, this is the rose with no leaves left except the very few that were not eaten. It is such a pretty thing. My SIL put some stuff in the ground to kill whatever is eating it. Hope it works.

Osteospermum Or African Daisy are annuals

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

ooooh poooo

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

JB---
i love the Osteospermun daisies...Just planted the ones i got at the Swap in my small front bed.
They bloom until almost frost....

The "stuff" your SIL put in the ground to kill whatever is eating your Roses is, mist likely,
a Systemic. It will be absorbed by the plant in its "system" and then all the juices of the plant
become toxic to sucking/chewing insects.
This does not happen immediately--may take 2-3 weeks before it is effective.

Bayer makes a liquid Systemic which can be sprayed on the plant--may work sooner...
It is called "Systemic Rose and Flower Care"....

JB--I have NOT forgotten the Curly Spider cuttings for you. Honest...just have not taken the
time to package them up and send them. EVERY day--I think about this...........:o/

Will let you know when I do this....Gita

G.

Yes of course, Gita. Thank you. I love the foxgloves, now all i need is the yellow...well I'm sure there are many different variations.

I can't sow them now can I? Well I guess I could as the foxgloves are producing seeds about now.

Damascus, MD(Zone 7a)

Paul, I started foxgloves from seed in June several years ago. The plants were fine and all bloomed the following spring. It was a lot of care though because seedlings could get scorched easily in the summer heat. I remember moving them around, from sun to shade to sun to shade...

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

It would definitely be beneficial to start them now then if they can get enough attention. Thank you.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I have huge foxgloves that are all blooming right now, but they're all white! I wintersowed some mystery seeds last year and was really hoping for a variety of colors. Now I have white blooms against white fencing. : /

If anyone has any brightly colored foxgloves this year, could you save the seeds for me? I'd love pink and purple.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Paul---

You can have seeds to Greenthumb's yellow perennial Foxgloves as well....I have them--as I collect seeds from everything.

I think you can sprinkle them in about a month. They are like dust....they will come up sometime later--grow--
and live through the winter. A true biennial.
Once the seedlings are good size, you can just prick them up and move them anywhere you want.

In the spring--they gather size and grow, quickly, into big clumps and shoot up the bloom stalk.
You will see many more babies coming up in spring as well--sort of a 'second batch"...
I was pulling them up like weeds just now.

And the cycle continues....Funny that you did not see the seeds to these when you were looking through my box?

My yellow ones are growing very well this year. Not sure when they bloom--don't have a picture from me--
Got mine from David--first batch died out in one year. He gave me 2 more. All is well now...

Will mail them out soon. Gita

Just started pouring rain here--again! Everything is soaked already!
Haven't even set foot in garden today...

This deluge just came on in a matter of minutes--and, about 15 minutes later--it was all gone.
It is hard to imagine the zillions of gallons of water that just came down.

Here-s the minute to minute snapshots---enjoy! Gita

1--How to tell your gutter is clogged?
2--Water hitting ground....
3--Walked outside for a better view....standing on my patio looking at the BIG puddle...
4--Near the entrance pad to my shed...a new lake forming....
5--The "river" that always forms as all the water from the houses to the left
comes spilling into the storm drain behind my shed. NOT my property any more...

All I could think of how many rain barrels (those that have them) would be filled???
I would think--one very 2 minutes at this rate.

Ssg- did you see the pictures of my foxgloves? I can save seeds from them for you

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Went to show you the same areas just 20 minutes later--but my camera battery was dead....

Just picture all the water on my lawn gone--the puddle by the shed now just on the brick landing--
gutter?--not a drop coming down---and no more "river" at all by the storm drain...just grass...

Like--it never happened!!!! Amazing how much water the ground can absorb in just minutes.....
Even more amazing how much water can rain down????
How can all that fit into the rain clouds un in the sky????
NO answer needed--

Jen--
Did you decide to order the "PIILU" Clematis?

I am thinking Brushwood may have it. Check it out....
Now my neighbor behind me wants one too--for near his swimming pool.

There are a couple of different places that you can order from. One is in Maine.
Just Google "Estonian Clematis" and up comes a lot of links.

One of the links "Searching for a Piilu Clematis " is, actuaally, my original post on DG
when I started looking for it. There is a link, by someone, to a place you can buy it from.
Sounds OK--and very big, rooted Clematis available.

I do not remember where I got it--it was about 4 years ago.

Holly---(we cross-posted)....

My Brazilian Plume is not blooming yet---It is in shade--maybe I should give it a bit of sun?
It is just that I read that they do better in shade--but until I learned that--I kept mine in the sun.
It still bloomed very well....
Gonna move it tonight......on a little table near my grill. My big Maple will shade it from the afternoon sun.

The Peony in #2 is the same I have too--the one i said looks Neon....
