Where'd you buy it? Most local stores would replace it, no questions asked. Of course, that's still a lot of trouble for you.
Isn't the rain wonderful!
2013 Group Buy for Fall Bulbs :-)
I think Cherry trees are prone to sap flowing out....
Someone can correct that----like Greenthumb.....
G.
I got it at American Plant in Bethesda--the one off the beltway. I should probably call them in the morning.
Gita, everything I'm reading suggests that such bleeds are usually caused by disease, insects, or injury. :-(
Catmint -- I go there all the time -- they are terrific -- I'm sure you'll have no problem getting them to exchange it. Are you going to this Saturday's "event/swap" at Behnke's, CatMint? What about you, Ssgardener? Terp? Maybe we can meet up? http://behnkes.com/website/events-calendar/activities-a-events-list.html...
thanks, Happy. I really like American Plant, too--and they always have such a nice selection.
Wish I could go to the swap! Thanks so much for mentioning it to me! Unfortunately I'm going out of town today for a few weeks. Timing is bad as I'm concerned about my weeping cherry.
Oh no happy! That sounds like something I would definitely go to. Afortunadamente I have a commitment for most of the day on Saturday.
Just talked to American plant and they were nice as always. They said to give the cherry a chance to heal and if it doesn't they'll replace it! :-)
Well at the airport now. Hate leaving all my young plants right now but at least i know they have plenty of water this weekend LOL. Talk to you all later!
I have a prior commitment as well and can't make it to the event tomorrow. Maybe right at 10...?
Ok, ok, I'll drag my spouse along and we'll have a merry old time without you. Catmint, I hope your cherry rebounds.
We decided not to go after all - there is too much work that needs to be done in the yard.
I got a note back from ADR after I emailed our "for sure" additions... We can add anything we want until July 15 without worrying about getting it or not. At that point, I'll finalize our initial order (how's that for an oxymoron LOL), and they'll send the list to me to double-check before they place the order with their Holland suppliers.
After July 15, we can still add to our order, but we'll be limited by their (huge) stock on hand.
I'll put up the "phase II" thread toward the end of the month.
I'd love a couple of volunteers to help with "paperwork." I'm thinking if I could email somebody the soon-to-be-updated spreadsheet in a week or so, that person could send out "invoices" with bulbs ordered and $ total to date... If I have more than one volunteer, I promise I'll find a way for you to help! It's something that shouldn't take a lot of time, really, but it would be one less thing on my do-list.
Meanwhile, feel free to keep chatting up bulb choices... I'll comb through the bottom part of this thread to get our initial list for "phase II" (which will also include "leftovers" that didn't make the "for sure" list in phase I).
Happy happy weekend!!
I'm happy to do the paperwork and invoicing!
I know there are some empty spots in the big bed of daffodils I planted some years ago. I tried to mark where to plant new bulbs this fall, but I am sure I missed some spots.
Critter: When you have some time and turn back to this group purchase, would you ask ADR for me whether I can put some of the bulbs in the fridge and wait until March to plant them so I can be sure I am hitting the "holes" in my beds -- or whether I need to instead put them in pots covered with dirt (which I don't really want to do -- seems like more work and I don't know if I have enough pots that are deep enough). I don't mind sacrificing the first year of bloom.
Happy, I'm pretty sure that would work as long as you didn't have fruits/veggies in the fridge... and yes, you'd sacrifice the first year of bloom. I'll double check with Chris, though. You could also dig them in temporarily somewhere, just put them along a trench so they'll be easy to mark & find in spring... then dig clumps of them and put them into bare spots when everything is sprouting in early spring. That way, they'll have a chance to grow roots and get the cold they need, and they'll probably bloom also.

I'm back!
We had a wonderful vacation last week with my folks and my brother's family at Walt Disney World. Now you know why I was a little distracted that week before we left, LOL.
I'm working on the spreadsheet now while Joyanna has a playdate... thank goodness for laptops, as I can follow them from room to room!
Hopefully I'll get invoices sent out soon via Dmail -- by the weekend, I hope -- and I'll post here when they've gone out. Then we can start Phase II.
^_^
Critter -- I'm happy to help with invoicing -- let me know.
critter, I sent partial payment thru paypal today so the invoice won't shock me so bad when it comes. ^_^
Thanks, Happy... I just may take you up on that when I've got the spreadsheet up to date!
Pixie, that's fine... I'm not worried about getting exact payments for this first phase, anyway, as some of the numbers may be different at the end anyway as we juggle orders to come out "even" on the bags or as we make it to the next quantity "break" in price.
I noticed that several of the miniatures come in a larger quantity that's pre-packaged in bags of 25, and we might see about looking at those. For example, Tete a Tete comes in boxes of 50 or 100 ($6.20 or $5.45 per 25), or a bulk bag of 500 ($4.90 per 25), or 12 "valuepacks" of 25 ($5.60 per 25), and all are the same size bulb. IMO "Prepackaged" is definitely worth a few cents more, where available, if we can get the numbers.
I LOVE tete-a-tete.
Update on the spreadsheet updating process: At this point, we've "sold" about 3.5 kilobulbs within our group (3484)... we'll need to juggle numbers and get a few more accounted for to fill bags, but I have a pretty good estimate of everybody's total to date.
I'd like to double-check the order numbers before sending Happy the spreadsheet, and then she'll help me by sending out individual "invoices" to let you know what you've purchased so far. If there are any questions or errors, please let me know right away -- on this thread would be easiest for me, please.
We'll be carrying over most of our "phase I" bulbs into "phase II" of ordering.
I'd like to take care of our Brent & Becky's order first, and get it placed by the end of the week. (Their discount ends June 30, but I want to get it done.)
If you look at the B&B list at the top of the thread, you'll see that there are 5 more available on several of the daffs to bring them to a full bag -- and for most, they will be priced at the "per 25" price rather than "per 50," but that's still a significant price break over ordering them 5 at a time on your own. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=9532832
Let's see if we can finish off some of these bags ASAP while I'm playing with the spreadsheet. Post on this thread, please, and let me know what you would take... you can even take them "conditionally" and offer them to somebody else at the end of things when we're juggling numbers... but I do need to know we have these bags sold, because we're saving 5% by letting B&B charge my card right away.
Daffodils
'Capree Elizabeth' 0 remaining to get to 25, 5 still available (Sally was flexible on her number)
'Extravaganza' ... ? seems to be out of the running
'Precocious' 5 remaining that must sell to get to 25
'Roulette' 5 remaining that must sell to get to 25
'Solar Wind' 10 remaining that must sell to get to 25
'Sweet Love' 10 remaining that must sell to get to 50, as many as 20 still available
On Iris reticulata 'Pauline', up to 40 are still available, but we have the bag "sold" (thanks to folks willing to take extras if needed)
On the wood hyacinths, both colors are sold out. To order more, we would have to buy 50 more (which would bring us to the next price break).
Amaryllis 'Ballerina' : We're currently at the "per 5" price of $6.46. I will order as many as 5, so we would need to get 2 more (total of 10) to get us to the next price break, bringing the price per bulb down to $5.87. Any takers? It's a gorgeous ruffly double pink! It's also one of the Sonatini varieties, which have been bred specifically for pot culture, with shorter, sturdier stems.
Thank you!!
I can take the rest of the Ballerina. I'll look at the rest later -- working on a memo and my eyes are bleary.
I can do
5 Solar Wind
5 Sweet Love
5 more Solar Wind (so 10 total for me)
Ill take .....
5 more Roulette
5 Sweet Love
10 Iris reticular Pauline
Wow, that was easy. I'll take the remaining 5 'Precocious'. I can also take 5 more 'Sweet Love' , which makes 20 for me & 20 for Happy. (If Chantell or another of our "fragrance hounds" wants 5, we can make it happen)
on 'Pauline', I'll take another 10 also, so looks like 20 for Aspen, 20 for Happy, 20 for Critter, 30 for Terp, and 10 for Pixie.
Thanks!
I'm taking the quick route for invoices, since the weather is too pretty this weekend. I'm going to send everybody a Dmail with the number of bulbs you've ordered and your total purchase amount to date. The list at the top should be up to date, and if what you see there or what you remember ordering doesn't seem to be in the ballpark of what I said, let me know, and I'll send you a detailed list of your order from my spreadsheet so we can get it right.
This "invoice" is just to give everybody an idea of their running total. I'd appreciate everybody making at least a "down payment" this month on purchases to date, especially if your total is over $50. As I've said, we won't have final numbers at this point, so even if you are sure you are done purchasing, you might owe a little more or a little less than your current total when all is said and done. Please remember to add 30 cents plus 3% for PayPal, and add a dollar or two for packing-party supplies. :-)
We will have a chance to go over all our orders in detail before July 20, when I finalize our order with ADR. (We will likely have one more phase of ordering from them in late summer or early fall, if there's more interest... but then we will be limited to their stock on hand.)
Sheesh, good thing I didn't try "detailed" invoices tonight! I didn't get the final B&B additions in the numbers I just sent out, and I managed to mess up a few by putting in a subtotal for my own reference that then got counted twice! But I think we're mostly straight now, although if you added B&B bulbs at the end you'll owe a bit more... and Sally, you've got twice as many bulbs as you presently think, since there are no more takers at present for 'Capree Elizabeth'.
With any luck, the glitches are mostly out of the system now!
:-)
So I just figured out the Iris reticulatum weren't in the spreadsheet yet. Let's make this simpler. Please view your "running totals" as a ballpark idea of what you've spent and how many bulbs you've already asked for. I'll keep double-checking during phase II.
JUNE payments, please read
At this point, all I really need to be paid for are the bulbs from B&B, since I'll be paying for them up front. If you want to pre-pay some of your total from ADR also, that's fine, but there are so many "conditional" purchases in there (depending on numbers, we'll be ordering larger or smaller bags, or canceling some altogether) that it's just goofy to try to finalize anything.
I will send out separate totals for the B&B purchase.
Thanks for bearing with me!
Sorry it took so long to get going again on my end! It's been a fun crazy month of back to back family visits, here. :-)
Here is a new thread for "Phase II"
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1326263/
There are still some great bulbs to be had, and new participants are welcome!
The "short version" of where things are at with the ADR order is in this post: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=9607806
