2013 Group Buy for Fall Bulbs :-)

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

On the ADR order:
Leucojum 'Gravetye Giant' - bump my request up to 20, that will zero out the 10 left on the second group
Daffodil 'Stainless' - bump my request up to 25, that will zero out the 10 left on the first group

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I don't have the right place (yet!) for trout lilies, but I'll finish up a bag of 50 on each of those wood hyacinths and on the Pauline!

following my own advice...

10 Iris reticulate 'Pauline'
10 hispanica ''Queen of Pinks' - large soft lavender pink (10/$7.80, 50/$33.50, 100/$60.00) - starting off with 20 for me
10 hispanica 'City of Haarlem'

I'll get these on the list after I put in a little garden time!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Aspen, if you want them for sure, they're yours... otherwise, I'll just go ahead and order the bag and note that you could take those extras.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Just curious--NOT ordering....

Are the Wood Hyacinths you are talking about these??? Gita

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Gita, yes - those are wood hyacinths.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Iris - Pauline: 10 up to 20.

And to follow up the Precocious are fine at full price.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks!

OK, we're at 60-70 on 'Pauline', let's see if we can get to 100 by the end of the day (around $3.30 for 10).

The wood hyacinths, we've sold out bags of 50, but if enough more are wanted we'll get a bag of 100 instead.

On the B&B bulbs, if we can get pretty close, I'll go ahead with them (especially if the leftovers are ones I'd be ok being "stuck" with for my garden!). We're pretty close on C. Elizabeth (5 left out of 25), Precocious (10 left out of 25), Roulette (5 left out of 25), Sweet Love (10-20 left out of 50)

I'll probably want 5 Amaryllis 'Ballerina' including a few for gifts, so if even a couple more people want it I'll order 10 (less than $6 each).

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I'll order one Amaryllis Ballerina.
I'll order another 10 IRIS RETICULATA 'Pauline' .

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

10 - 20 more 'Pauline' for me.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

We have more time on the Brent & Becky's order. Apparently I can't read. LOL When they called back to tell me that yes, they CAN ship AMARYLLIS bulbs by our deadline, she also pointed out that the 10% off sale ran through JULY first, and yes, that would completely offset our shipping cost (so think of it as a "free ship" offer).

By the way, whenever I have something that I think everybody needs to read for sure, I'll put it in bold like this. HTH!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

By the way, if our ultimate B&B order is sufficiently large, you might ask for an extra 10% or 20% off -- no harm in trying.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy, I just had that same thought... I will definitely try!! They may be especially willing since it's a group buy -- good chance to bring in some new customers, since I don't think all of us have ordered from B&B in the past.

I do want to finish off our current "round" of ordering in the next day or two and get the additions ordered from ADR as well as placing our initial order with B&B. I will not be available much in the next couple of weeks, so I'm going to hit the pause button Sunday or Monday... you'll be able to chat among yourselves and discuss additional "nominations" on this thread, but I won't be taking actual orders. I'll start a new thread for Round Two, in late June.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I can go to 10 on 'Capree Elizabeth' if needed to do the bag- ( but preference is 5 )

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill, it looks like

WAVE and EXTRAVAGANZA

double daffodil requests (from me and Happy) are not showing up on the top post.

Does this mean these doubles are not being ordered? I don't see any other doubles on the order list.

I'll change my Extravaganza request to 5, since you're keeping everything at multiples of 5s.

I'm also adding:

1 Ballerina Amaryllis

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

SSG, I think Critter was looking to see if there was any interest -- I'm not sure she had committed to adding those to the list. How she is keeping all our requests in order I have no idea.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Happy, I don't know how Jill is keeping track of everything, either! :)

Are there other doubles that the group is ordering or nominating? I'd like to jump on the double daffodiils bandwagon, please!

Jill, that Delnaslaugh is VERY pretty! I'd be very interested if you'd like to order.

You and Chantell mentioned Cheerfulness, which I also love!

No one has nominated Tahiti yet?

I'm actually not that particular about which doubles we order, as long as I get a variety of 3-4 types.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

If you're "not that particular about which doubles" we get, then I think we should add a couple of the cheaper ones from ADR rather than more doubles from B&B. I'd be interested in both 'Wave' & 'Solar Flare', since they're ones I don't have, but as similar as their colors are I figured it might be better to do either/or with them.

'Tahiti' is probably my very favorite double daff. I have "enough" (barely), but I think it would be a good one to add to our ADR order. Same with 'Delnaslaugh' -- I think we'll be able to make the numbers on that one even without my getting some.

Happy & SSG, let me know if you'd like to keep 'Wave' and 'Extravaganza' on your order at the higher per-5-bulb price from B&B, as right now it doesn't look like we'll get to 25 on those. (then again, we have another month, so who knows! I'll wait to order those. I'm also going to ask B&B if we can switch from a bag of 25 to a bag of 50 if there's more interest next month.. that way, we'll have our 25 bulbs reserved for sure but might still be able to get a better discount if others jump in on ordering them)

As for how I'm keeping track... well, you can see that it's not without missing something here & there. But that's why this is a group effort -- you are all helping me stay on top of it!

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

They are nice!!! Delnaslaugh and Tahiti. The same with Extravaganza and Wave. Hmmm..I need to work more.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

The more I look at the Delnaslaugh, the prettier it gets. :)

Cheaper bulbs from ADR would be fine with me! So I'm ok with replacing Wave and Extravaganza.

I would like

15 Delnaslaugh
10 Tahiti

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

I would like these daffadils 25 Geranium
25 Suada
25 Red Devon
25 Ice Follies
15 Tahiti

Alliums 20 Purple Sensation
10 Schubertii

Tulips 50 Hearts Delight

Amarylis 2 Double Dream

Other 25 Hyacinthoides hispanica 'Excelsior' (if there is enough interest)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, I added pricing for Delnaslaugh and Tahiti to the list at the top. I think I'm caught up on orders to this point, so if I missed something for you, please let me know!

correction, I'm caught up to where Terp said he needed to work...

SSG & catbird, I'll add those after the pool party. TGIF!

Happy, that was 30 'Pauline' for you in total, yes?

Paul--

Did the pot of Tahiti daffs I gave you at "The Dig" bloom for you?

Mine (in the pots) put out a very few blooms--but I understand--as they got ripped out of their beds.
They're still sitting there on my steps going: "Whachya do THAT for???"---I just tell them that it was ALL for YOU!

So--you have a start on these already......:o)

I WILL re-plant them in the fall....G.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Gita,

I had a few that bloomed, yes. Thank you. Now if I can only remember where I put them. Ihave a few years before they need to be split aanyway.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm ok with anything. On the Pauline, yes, I asked for 30 to help close out the lot, but I'm not eager for that many because they don't perennialize for me so if anyone wants to cut into my group I'd be delighted. I'm happy with as few as 10. No biggie.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Catbird, I looked at ADR for wood hyacinths & didn't see Excelsior... just blue, or white, or pink, or a mix. We missed yesterday's deadline for ordering Excelsior at a discount from VE. B&B probably has it -- but would you be happy with blue wood hyacinth from ADR?

Terp, can't remember if I mentioned it, but you have 50 of the 75 'Harmony' Iris ret. that you wanted, at this point... your other 25 are the first sold of the next bag (of 150), and although I'm guessing we'll end up with 3 bags I don't want to guarantee it! :-)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Delnashaugh is only 2.20 for 5 bulbs?? He# yes i will take

five Delnashaugh please please

This message was edited Jun 1, 2013 7:03 PM

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL, Sally. It gets even cheaper if we can "sell" 250 among ourselves. $7.25 for 25 bulbs. :-)

That's why I didn't think we might have enough people interested in the more brightly colored Extravaganza from B&B... not when we could get D. for so much less

edited to add... Chantell & Terp, I put you both down for "5?" on Delnashaugh & Tahiti to be sure you had some reserved since I thought you'd mentioned those... let me know if you want more/less than that.

And EVERYBODY who doesn't have 'Tahiti' in their garden needs to get some. Seriously. No way to go wrong with this one unless you can't stand a fragrant daff. Same price as Delnashaugh, 5 for $2.20

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ok, I'll get on the Delnashaugh train -- for 15.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Chantell and I want a Moonstone peony that Van Engelen offers -- but there is a $50 minimum -- so if a VE order materializes can we please combine forces? The VE special on Excelsior lasts until Monday. Here is my post - I should have put it on this thread -- sorry! I didn't remember that you were considering VE. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=9542640 .

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'll be ordering the following on Monday:

switch N. 'Suada' from 150 XL to 250 large 14/16 size bulbs (we'll have 25 remaining, available for $7.25 or 5 for $1.45 )

3 bags of (50) N. February Gold (2 or 3 bags for Devon, she will share from the 3rd bag if anybody else wants some)
1 bag of (75) N. Stainless (2nd bag, up to 25 may still be available)
1 bag of (250) N. Actaea (50 still available! :-)

1 tray of 150 XL 'Red Impression' darwin tulips
2 more bags of (50) Tulip kaufmanii Heart's Delight

2 bags of (50) Allium christophii
2 bags of (50) Allium 'Purple Sensation'
2 bags of (150) Iris ret. 'Harmony'
1 bag of (150) Iris ret. 'JS Dyt'
2 bags of (50) Leucojum G's. Giant

I'm also going to check to see if I can reserve bags of 50 or 75 on some of the daffodil varieties and then swap them for bulk bags when/if we get to the higher quantity (usually 250).

I'd really like to lock in a bag of 10 JUMBO Amaryllis 'Double Dream'... 6 sold so far, I'll add another couple if needed but don't really want to take 4 more myself... anybody else? I have to say, it's a memorable hostess gift or Christmas present when you give somebody a bulb "as big as their head!"

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ok, I'll take 4 Double Dreams -- good idea for Christmas presents.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

If anyone is interested in the Van Engelen deal, we need to order by Monday (that's when the sale ends). Just saying.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy, thanks! How about we each take 2 extras? If it turns out to be a must have for anybody else, we can slide them one... It just looks like such a pretty thing. :-)

We're at 5 on 'Ballerina' from B&B, too, I think. I'll try to call them, also, and ask if we can switch from smaller to larger bags... if so, I'll go ahead and reserve smaller quantities of the ones that have captured our interest. I bet we'll be at the next price break by the end of June when their sale ends.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy, I don't want 100 'Excelsior', but if anybody else wants smaller quantities I'd love to get 25. And if 'Moonstone' has "smelly-goodness," then I could find a place for one, I bet.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ok, let's see what other people want. I saw some other nice peonies on the VE site too -- the info is here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=9542688 -- sorry to be all over the place with this. I already have a patch of Excelsior so I don't "need" more. But we'd need to buy at least 9 peonies to make the $50 cut, unless we get Excelsior. With you buying one peony, we are at 5. And they go in batches of 3. So we'd need one more Moonstone, plus either 3 of another peony or 100 Excelsior. Or any other permutation or combination that adds up to at least $50.

I might get the Excelsior -- I can see putting it in the back of my yard where it is very shady. But I want "Bowl of Beauty" too. Too many decisions.

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

Happy, if this is the Excelsior you are talking about:
http://www.vanengelen.com/flower-bulbs-index/website-specials/ws-hyacinthoides-hispanica-excelsior.html
I would be interested in 25.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ok, terrific. If Critter wants 25, then we have 50 of the 100 taken care of. I can get the rest if no one else wants them. They grow well in shade....

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy, I bet somebody else will take the other 50 Excelsior before this fall. Just post a reminder on this thread at some point... or I'll make a note on the list at the top that you have 50 Excelsior available.

You might also Dmail Pixie and see if she wants more "Magical Muscari Mixture" at the per/100 price to extend her river...

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ok on both fronts -- but I think I may just keep the extra 50 Excelsior to put in the new hosta bed I installed (thanks to Gita and RRR) in the back. They'll look nice before the hostas come up.

I'll dmail pixie. But how is she picking stuff up? She is so far north...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Pixie is getting bulbs relayed from Jan, I think. I know she had a plan... :-)
