Chat and Swap thread PART #5 May 18 at Jan23's

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Message to all: If you are expecting me to bring you something specific, please confirm that I have it ear-marked for you on my "haves and wants" thread entry. I think I have everybody's requests accounted for, and I'll try to bring extras, but I'd hate to disappoint anyone.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I have a last minute request. Does anyone have any extra medium-sized clay pots? Maybe something 4-6 inches across the top in diameter. I'm looking for plain, unglazed pots. Thank you, and see you all tomorrow!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wow, a BIG surprise from Gita...what can it be???????????

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I just acquired two that meet that description this week! They are yours! What, pray tell, will you use them for?

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Sallyg, guess Gita heard I was driving the van up to Jan's!

Happy, I could use 10 of those stretchy mesh bags if you still have surplus

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm bringing as much soda as I can fit!! Please - those of u that like Pepsi products BYOBs and take what you want at swap end!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

SSG, I didn't find an extra tuber after our get-together, but I should have an extra start of that Black Stem Taro... I'll try to remember it for tomorrow, otherwise will run it down to you sometime!

Waaay behind here...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

SS--I can bring you a few clay pots---I collect those as well when plants get tossed....
The kind Bromiliads come in. How many do you need?

Gita

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Sorry guys the Curly Willow and Black Pussywillows didn't root well enough. Won't have them at the swap.
Happy I don't think the Quince is any good either.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Not to worry. Ahhh I still haven't gone to the grocery store yet. Smile. Other then that I'm locked and loaded.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Tables and chairs picked up, kitchen almost ready for the onslaught.

Please make sure when you get home to check for ticks. Got another one today.

BTW, have I said how excited I am?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

My car is loaded too--and we got everything in it.....YEAH!!!!

Tomorrow--just the food left to go. Gotta bake the casserole- It is made--jut needs to be baked.
Will wrap it up in a thick towel to keep it warm. Pickles--cold...but edible at any temperature....

I will be caravaning behind Paul.....he offered to swing by.
He has a GPS---a load off my mind.....

Jan--do you want me to bring some kind of Insect Spray to keep the ticks at bay,
or do you have some?

See Ya! Gita

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I am loaded, too. Ric in the kitchen making his yummy Greek pasta salad.
Jan, I can't wait either so very excited. Getting to see your gardens, seeing old friends and getting to meet the more Northern DG Members that I have only talked to on the threads. How much fun it will be. The exployer is loaded to the top so I hope you all want my plants. LOL

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok, I'm officially loaded too and ready to pick up Cheryl and then Jill in the morning. I went ahead and made that shrimp recipe from this month's Southern Living magazine - I was talking about it on the food thread, and a little worried since I've never tried it before. Could be way too strong - it is actually some kind of pickling thing. Oh well. I'm exhausted and glad that it is not even 9:00 yet so I can get my feet up, sip on a cold drink, and then off to sleep. See everyone tomorrow!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I do not have any, Gita. Onewish may bring something, but in case she does not, maybe you could if you would like. I tend to sit on the ground or kneel sometimes whilst gardening, so I am in contact with the ground a lot.

Glad you have Paul to guide you.

Maggie made a poster she called it to celebrate tomorrow. I must put it up somewhere. She is excited to meet everyone. She'll probably act shy at first, but, you just wait!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sounds wonderful, aspen hill!!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Gita, thank you for the pots! I would love 2, if you have them.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Jan, apologies to Maggie... new neighbors (including 2 friends, ages 2 and 4) are throwing a pool party tomorrow, and Joyanna opted out of the swap trip.

Just before dark, I dug up some "Felicia's Phlox" for Jan and potted 5 additional divisions. I also dug some 'Black Gamecock' Louisiana Iris for Nutz4DL and bagged 5 more divisions of that one, too. Plus dug an overgrown clump of dwarf bearded iris that might be 'Jewel Baby' and divided the extra rhizomes into 5 bundles.

Nothing is boxed yet. urk.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh I hope there is some of that dwarf bearded iris left when I get there! Sounds wonderful!

We are so far from ready! All the plants are dug and grouped, but not bagged. Darryl is out buying wine, and we're also bringing cheese and crackers and grapes which befits our late arrival. We'll call it "happy hour."

Coleup -- I've got oodles of stretchy bags.

Everybody: I packed plants into compost -- which now looks like mud -- my bad. So it they aren't in the best potting soil, but they should hold ok for a few weeks.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

we're far from ready here too... so the way to get to a swap on time is to pack your car the night before... hmmm we must have missed that memo lol. That never even dawned on me as an option. We'll be doing the final sorting and packing in the morning. I just have to dig out one or two more plants as well.

Critter the eyeball plant seedlings are still very small. But I'm sure they will grow if you tuck them into a porch pot or somewhere you can keep an "eye" on them. hehe... getting tired as you can see. I'll be keeping ours on the porch for a while.

see you soon!

I'm with you with -- I still have 4 plants to dig, and I need to bag everything, and on, and on.

Eyeball plants??? How weird is that?

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Holy, moly! I'm going to bed. Now, if I sleep that is yet to be determined.

Maggie will miss Joyanna. But, I think I would choose a pool party, too,if I was her. Heehee.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I am anal enough that I have to have everything done a couple of days ahead of time.
Less stress if I have to do things last minute--can't deal with that...

Today--I had a few little things to do--carried all the boxes to my driveway and then my 2 daughters
helped load up the car....Amazing--that everything actually fit inside. That is done!

Off to bed.......Gita

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Say, Jan...ARE YOU EXCITED???
ROFL!!!

To sleep, perchance to dream..of a million plants all over your yard...

Paul thank you for watching Gita for me. I want my surprise to arrive safe!!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

SallyG -- I am really going to miss you! I can't remember a swap without you. And my DH will miss seeing your DH.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Ditto, happy, and Darryl. Good thing we are ''somewhat'' local...
And I miss meeting our Northeast neighbors, pooh.!
I have to work in the morning- can't even be off all day.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I just finished a list on my Have/Want post of everyone and what I've promised them. I hope I got it all right.

I will be up really early tomorrow to finish labeling plants and pack them in my car. I'm beat! I dug so many daylilies today. I do have one problem, though. I was not able to dig about 3 clumps of hosta. Those were Lakeside Chacha, Sum And Substance and August Moon. Very sorry to those of you who I had promised them to. Maybe I could ship them. There was just too much for me to do. I waaaay underestimated how long this would all take. *SIGH* Even though I took the day off from work, I still didn't get it all done. I got started way too late, though. My own fault, but I needed some sleep.

LOL! Upon reading others posts, it sounds like I'm in good company on not being ready. This is a ton of work! I did think of loading the car tonight, and that was the plan, but it didn't work out that way. I may be late to the party. I hate running late, but sometimes it goes that way. Gitagal, I wish I was as anal as that. Would be nice to have things done ahead of time for a change.

Karen

I always pack my car in the morning

See everyone tomorrow, safe travels to you all!!!

Cars cleaned out...98% of plants are either out front in bins or on my deck. Will load em up in the AM I don't know how y'all do it that have such huge promised lists....I stand in awe. Doing my labels now for the ones not in pots. LOVE those markers Jill!!! Will be leaving at about 9 so 'should' arrive by noonish. I think I missed which route to take - I thought I saw something when I was reading my phone about a parade. When I google it's talking about road closures. I just need to avoid the bay bridge - there's simply not enough meds unless it's life or death.

My truck is FULL of soda...again PLEASE bring bags - even if you don't drink it but you know someone that does....I can't bring any back....was too much a workout getting it to the car. Are we good on coolers? Cuz I don't think I could fit one in my bitty car w/the plants. I will p/u ice. Can't wait to see everyone!!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm up. It's too early for me. I don't know what I was thinking that I would be able to get labels on stuff at this time of the morning when there's no light out there. Hmmmm.... I think I'll just have to put the labels on when I arrive. Okay, gotta get my butt in gear. I'll see everyone there!

Karen

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Karen: You were up at 3? Dear Lord! We'd rather see you in one piece and happy and have zero plants! Safe travels!

Paper routes done, Van was packed last night. Fed feral cats. Throwing in a few last minute plants to temp those whose cars may not be full enough for regulation plant swap transport return to home base.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee

Sally, to answer your question....YES, I m VERY excited!!! Have fun at the wedding.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

3 AM?!?!? Sheesh...I'd only been in bed a hour and a half at that point.... Everyone please drive safe...can't wait to see you!!

Sally VERY sad you won't be there...

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Me too CHantell..
and Mark always likes to 'score' those sodas, even if there are flavors we've never heard of! He's like that...Have fun!

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Great great time today!! Missed you Sally. Thanks so much Jan. We got home in no time. The location worked out great for us. We hit rain on the way home. We're exhausted now though. Thanks so much to everyone for sharing so many great plants with us. We had a great time; it was so nice to meet and connect names w/DG names. Hopefully everyone has a safe journey home. I can't wait to get planting tomorrow!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ric and I are home. Boy did we have a great time and scored some really wonderful plants.
Jan what a lovely home and gardens you have. Great hostessing.
So very nice to meet you more Northern gardeners how much fun it was to meet new people and see old friends. Can't wait till tomorrow to OOH and AAH over each plant.
Thank you so much everyone.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Great hosting, great food, great friends, great plants, and great fellowship. We had a great time. Next time I will print the reverse route to avoid any confusion, you can't get there from here by reversing the route from Jan's. Ha, Ha! We did fine though except for the guy that went up route 7 @ 35mph. Hit some rain starting in Paradise with sprinkles the rest of the way home. Those who didn't make it, you were missed. To those that did, Thanks for a great time.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

What Ric and Holly said! Absolutely a wonderful day of friends, food and plants. Thank you everyone for all the plants. We made it home just in time to still have some light to sort out which ones say with us and which ones go home with David's sister. She will be joining DG soon. Sounds like some of you put in some long hours Friday getting ready.
