Chat and Swap thread PART #5 May 18 at Jan23's

Mount Laurel, NJ

Some of the pulmonaria I dug is looking very limp and not at all good. Do you think I should bring it? I'm embarrassed giving people what looks like a dead plant, but I think it will come back.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes, bring it. I always feel that way but everybody knows better and is very gracious. Most of mine are ragged looking, I'm not a perfectionist though.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I have two vitex so I can cover both greenthumb and nuts4daylily -- I was going to plant one of then but it was easy to root so I'll just root some more.

And greenthumb, I'll bring you Lysimachia clethroides as well.

coleus -- I dug some pulmonaria at someone's house last year and replanted it at mine. It all died. But it reappeared this year and looks very healthy. So yes, I'd bring it. Keep it moist. I'll take it if the other claimers don't want it!!!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

coleup I will mark the book for you and dig up some artichokes. I would LOVE some red lights kale!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Thanks Yankeecat. I can't keep Kale and Chard correct in my plant dyslexia lexicon..It is red lights chard. I'll bring some and if you don't want I'll just take it home and plant it with the other 'unplanted' veggies! Glad I'll have some interesting reading to do when it gets way too hot nad uncomfortable for me to be out there gardening! People ask me why I want to move to Vermont with such long winters, but I miss more of the year outside here with hot humid summers than I would there with real winters !

coleuslover At least your pulmonaria don't have to cross state lines! If any of yours are looking too bad to travel you can leave my requests at home and nurse them for another swap. Pulmonaria here for me go dormant when the heat hits but return in Spring so yours may be in early dormancy and better off left to rest than revived. Time will tell.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Coleuslover, Pulmonaria always seems to do that when potting it up. I have that problem everytime. It will come back.

Thanks Happy and Pixie!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Getting my stuff ready!! Camera battery charging, name tags started, name slips for the gift table working.........(PLEASE LET ME KNOW if your joining guest or relative would like to be part of the gift table. Wouldn't want to leave out the name of a gift contributor). And then of course there are the plants to sort and label, and the covered dish to think about!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

We can always add names once everyone gets here. Right?

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Yes we can. I'll have extra tabs and badges, but it's helpful to have most of it done before time. We tend to get right into socializing and having fun as soon as we get there.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

YES, we do!!! Heehee

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

We really should have pictures of how harried we are and what a mess we make while getting everything together!! My photos would be very scary.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee. Thankfully I don't have that problem. I just have a shovel for my offerings to be dug up on Saturday.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Roses, I totally identify! I thought it wouldn't be so bad as most of my 'promised' goodies have already been delivered and there have been so few requests from my 'haves' list. It is only this morning that I have emptied my van which has been doubling as a mini-greenhouse, protecting tenders from cold nites. (The coleus loved the additional warmth) Now I can fill it up again after I get gas.

Jan, I'm bringing that screened gazebo that Sally used as a food tent if we need it and I have several seen better days coolers for drinks I can throw in, too.

Everyone I check this thread all day long in the fear that someone will request something else from me and I know my plate is full. So, if you see something you want me to bring to the swap for you please speak up by midnight tonight. Thanks. I won't be bringing 'extras' (if I can help myself) this year.

And to any of you I have requested plants from, please know that my requests are casual and made because I'd like a little of you in my garden! Don't stress on my account. Im very happy just to be around plants and the people who grow and share them.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

OMG Roses - if you could have seen my deck last night and my sidewalk (I'm in a townhouse) tonight. My neighbor came out and said - 'ohhh it's THAT time of year again, huh?' How funny is that!?! Gotta unload the trunk from camping a couple of weekends ago...LOL. OK - I will be bringing my nephew - his name is Logan and I will bring 2 things for the gift table since he loved that so much at Sally's.

Additional HAVES:
Turns out I have an extra Red Yucca - can't remember if/who the 3rd person was that asked for one.
Will be bringing extra PB shrub babies - since I discovered a few last night.
Will be bringing the scented geraniums that are remaining.
Discovered a few Passifloras coming up if anyone is interested.
Have one Datura baby to spare (maybe 2) - it is the white night scented one - gorgeous scent!!
And last but not least my local roadside plant marts had been carrying a NOID Jasmine Sambac - 1 qt size for $11 + tax. If anyone would like me to check it tomorrow to see if they have any and pick one up please let me know no later than 3pm tomorrow.

I will be checking in here at 3 and then at 5 pm...any requests please dmail me. Can't wait to see everyone!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

AYC, get your act together girl, you don't want to miss the boat(err... Car).

LOL. "she does now"!!!!

I am almost giddy!!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally---

You have two options for the Curly Spider I will bring you.

1--Growing/rooting in a 4" pot for over a month already...............
OR
2--Growing, already for a good while, in a pretty, deco. 6" ceramic pot with saucer,

#1--You would allow to root in a bit longer and then plant in a small HB.
#2 --you would leave in this pot for a while...on a table....not plop it in a HB

Your choice.....:o)

My dr. S. Brug cuttings are not spectacular this year. maybe they will go "Pooof" outside.
Would you like any Daturas as well??? They are really big.

Will miss you like crazy at the swap--and also riding up with you--but my car will be so
full that if i rode with someone else, there would not be any room.
As it is--I have a number of lg. potted plants to bring this year.
12-lg Hostas
4 lg, Perennial Asters
1-lg dug up Lavender (for ss).
Ecnalg's very lg. pot of Acuba
3 trays of 4's
1 tray of Chrys. Pac. etc...etc...
Plus--Box-full of empty pots--IF i have room....starting to worry....
Two dishes of food....

It WILL work out---must think positive...

Jan--

What is the status of the parade???

Will we be detoured or not?
It is hard to drive AND navigate streets unknown.....might tape the directions
to my steering wheel. Then all I have to do is look down.

What's the latest weather forecast for your area??? JOKE!!!!!

See you tomorrow.....Gita

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

I still have a handful of Nandina Domestica seedlings that are maybe 3 years old..

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Gita, I would like the smaller 4 inch Spider, please
I am missing you, all you guys, as well! At least you can pack your car starting today and not wonder about repacking- that's a pain.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Definitely no white stuff in the forecast!

72° and partly cloudy for tomorrow

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok I need to make my dessert before I go out and get all dirty playing with the plants

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Hey Sally Hope your DD shines tomorrow just a bit less than the bride. Have some family fun! Does this mean you will be dressing up, too? I almost feel I should upgrade my usual attire because of all the fancy plants Jan has acquired for her yard "The Pride of Pennsville"!! And, say, since the topic of a Fall Swap will undoubtedly come up tomorrow are you up for consideration as a possible host? Ask ogress Sally, too.

Gita, if Wayne and I get there before you, Wayne said he would be happy to help you unload your car. He is looking forward to some pickles! Charge your cell phone and camera.

Yes, Jan, what kind of parade is it? Name? Do you still think all of our vehicles will fit on your street?

Question about directions You say after bridge go 3 lights then take 4th left to Union. Is that the 4th light (after the first three or the 4th street to the left after the 3 lights?

Maybe we will just take alternate route and skip any timing issues with parade.

Back out to water the other half of my yard. Cheering Celeste and Memory and Ruby and John on!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That is fourth street after the 3rd traffic light.

The parade is on the main St. Rt. 49. It starts at the second light by the Acme. Start time is 10 am. It is the Memorial Day parade. So, it all depends on what time you get to town. If you arrive while the parade is still going on, you will need to do the alternate route. call me and I will talk you through town so you don't have to look down at directions.

Oh, definitely dress up. NOT. Heehee. Comfy is the word of the day.

Forecast looks like it will be ideal!! Whoopee!!!

BTW, I am really excited!!

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jan, what time do you want us to get there? I wasn't planning before 10am lol

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

Paul, I'll take one of your nandinas please.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally---

Sending you a surprise plant!!!! BIG!!! Because I will miss you.......:o(( ~~~~~

Jan--I will ask my daughter if she would like to come along...She leaves on Sunday AM.
KIt would work out better as to who drives her to BWI. I HOPE SHE IS INTERESTED....

She would have a good time.....
I will tell her I need her to help me navigate....Honestly--i do!

coleup---I would MUCH appreciate Wayne helping me unload....I should get there between 11AM and 11;30AM--
if no glitches in the traffic happen...
Thanks for the reminder to charge up my phone....did the Camera already.....

Gita

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)
