No they are self seeded from the plants. I got the original hellebores from a co-op quite a few years ago. They were pretty little not this small maybe one year plants and they have grown very well for me, they do take 3 years to bloom.
Chat and Swap thread PART #5 May 18 at Jan23's
That's what I meant -- how did you acquire the parents. So were they also grown from seed? I am asking because I have a number of seedlings you have given me that haven't bloomed yet, and I assume they are from your Pine Knot plants.
The parents came from a DG Co-op of Pine Knot Select Hellebore. They were pretty small I think about a year plant.
Thanks for the info! I can't wait until mine are big enough to bloom!
You are so sweet Gita. Would a swap be a swap without a carful of plants? And, hey , we can have our own planted cars parade to Jan's house!!
I could use a number of those 6 pack with handles(or without) to keep like chicks with like chicks of my hen and chick varieties. Would save me a lot of labeling or remembering lol. Used to have a number of those hot pink ones that Wave petunias came in. 5 or so would be great. Thanks.
Critterologist/Jill I would like 2 or 3 industrial black markers and one silver if they are available. Will pay at Swap. Remind me how much. Thanks. Also, in reading through your Haves and Wants, you have me listed for a Tovara for you Do you still want some? I also have a Fishnet Stockings coleus for you if you want it. LMK.
Any one, I have a small 'Plum Magic'' crepe myrtle if anyone is interested
UMD_Terp and ssgardener, I have you both down for the Stiletto look-alike seedling.
I've been going like gangbusters digging and potting stuff for the swap. I divided two hosta clumps tonight, 'Gold Standard' and 'Captain Kirk'. They were gianormous! Wow! And I mean wow! What a b**** they were to divide! Good thing I have a sharp knife.
Anyhow, I have two small pots of Columbine seedlings that need homes. There are 3 seedlings per pot. I don't know what colors they will be. They could be pink, blue, white, burgundy or black-purple.
I also have three small pots of Lamium 'Aurium', a Japanese maple seedling, and a Kousa dogwood seedling.
Karen
Coleup, I would love to have the crepe myrtle! Please and thank you!
Gitagal, I'll take any pots or so packed that you have that other people don't want. Please and thanks!
Karen
Coleup, yes please on the Tovara, and thank you very much for the 'Fish Net Stockings' coleus! I'll make a note to bring those markers for you.
Terp, if you still have a 'Gerard's Fuchsia' azalea baby, I'd love to find it a special spot. I can grow it on in a pot in my sheltered nursery corner -- maybe tuck it against the foundation wall over winter? Or does it need to come inside?
Holly, my little 'Blue Mouse Ears' hosta hasn't popped up in its pot yet... Could I please have another piece in case some stupid squirrel dug it up this winter or something?
Chantell, could I please have a few Hoya cuttings?
THANKS!
ADDED
'Hilary Sweet Lemon' mint and Apple Mint
Wild Cherry tree seedlings (potted 1 today, there are surely more "out there")
Happy, I'll be glad to bring you a pink hardy geranium
Thank you so much, Wind!
Holly I'd like some hellebore babies, too And a pot of Beacon Silver lamium Please.
Nutsfordaylily/Karen I would like to try some of your lamium aureum
Wind/Diana If you have another pink hardy geranium, I would like one also.
Yankee Cat I'm up for trying some Jerusalem artichokes and the Frugal Gardening book.
I have some starts of Red Lights Kale would you like them?
sure Coleup, I'm sure I can dig out some for you.
also those who asked for salvia and eyeball plants from me this time, I'm apologizing now for their tiny size!! I used an organic potting mix this year that was awful. It retained way too much moisture and I nearly killed off the seedlings by over watering. It didn't help that I got them started late... actually it did kill all my Yvonne's salvia for the most part. I never ever had this problem. I guess the newer soil types are designed to hold water for the entire summer lol The seedlings should grow though. I've already transplanted some in protected areas and can see they are doing okay.
have a good day!
ps our backyard birds are getting bigger!
thanks for sharing that Wind .. always good to know.. what you feeding those chippys???.. LOL
Sure thing critter.
Nuts4daylily what size pots do you prefer.
Nutsfordaylily I also would like some of your lamium aureum please.
LOL, wind, on your 'big' birds!!!
Diana, I think I've had that problem too (moist seedlings) HAHA the turkey!
Nutsfordaylily., if you have any left, I also would like some of your lamium aureum please.
Oh, and if anybody wants a mimosa baby, I'll bet I have some of those "out there" also. Fair warning, they're worse than maples for seeding all over (and on some invasive lists, also). I have one because it was DH's one request when we moved in and started adding trees. Also, the hummingbirds flat out adore it.
Gita, those 6-packs of big pots with handles sound like they'd be so handy for propagating!
Nuts4DL if that Kousa dogwood baby hasn't been spoken for, I'd love it please.
Wind, I know what you mean about the new potting soils. I buy something equivelant to MG, and it retains a bit too much moisture. I'm quite displeased with it.
Okay, the Lamium 'Aureum' is gone. Going to coleup, HollyAnnS and Roses.
Critter, the Kousa baby is yours. In fact I found a bigger one, probably about 2 years old, in a pot with my Golden Chain tree (which I'm finally ready to plant this year), so you may have the bigger one.
I have one more Kousa seedling, probably about a year old. The Japanese maple seedling I think is a year old, too.
Karen
I can use any size, UMD_Terp, however I really need big ones for potting up daylilies. The ones I prefer to use are about 11" in diameter.
LOL! Big, ugly bird.
Karen
What color blossoms on that Kousa?
I know I've lost plants from Bluestone -- this was a few years ago -- because their soil held too much moisture and I didn't notice that it was staying too soggy....
Nothing exciting, but I can add:
Pinus Palustris, long-leafed pine -- http://www.floridata.com/ref/p/pinu_pal.cfm -- mine is about two years old -- less than a foot tall
Wineberry -- it is invasive, but tasty
Lysimachia clethroides (gooseneck) -- supposed to be invasive, but hasn't been so for me -- it is in a partly shady spot.
small rooted vitex (chaste tree) - only 6" or so. I don't know the cultivar (I've lost the label), but is a cutting of a vitex I purchased long ago and is a nice blue.
Jen, I do still have more Brunneras. Will tag some for you.

Thank you for the Kousa dogwood! Tasty fruits on those, too.
Happy, I think I have poor enough, dry enough soil that I can keep Lysimachia clethroides under control if I don't water it much or amend the soil where a I plant it. Also, a small Vitex.
Happy, do you have more than one on the Vitex? I've been wanting one of those for a long time.
Critter, you're welcome. The parent of that Kousa has white flowers. You realize it will be years before it blooms, right?
Karen
Happy, if you only have one Vitex, give it to Karen.
David
Thanks David, but you asked for it first.
Karen
LOL, yes I realize it'll be a wait before that little dogwood gets flowers & fruit. I have a few special baby trees that I'm enjoying growing on in nursery pots... this one will join the others. They get big eventually! I have a couple of wild plums that I grew from whips... they are as tall as i am now, and they bloomed this spring!
thanks Donnerville!
I actually have a Vitex I bought last year - still in the pot. I'm not sure where I thought I'd put the dang thing. I wanted it to tincture the berries but again, I really don't have the room for it. How about I give mine to David (that way when it's grown up I can beg berries off of him) and Karen can have Devon's???
I will be bringing extra potted Peanut Butter bush. As usual once I got out there I saw a few coming up and a few missed last year.
I've added Valerian plants to my 'haves' - folks either love or hate the scent of the blooms. I love it. Although an annual they are prolific re-seeders.
For those of you that asked for the Shooting Star Gardenia cuttings - my apologies but the white fly issue is not good. We'll have to wait till next year. If anyone has some natural remedies to get rid of these PLEASE let me know. I AND my neighbors will thank you for it.
For those that asked about the hoya cuttings (got you down Jill) please know these were just purchased in past 1-2 months so the cuttings will not be long. I just wanted to give you the head's up.
Adding a few pots of this and that...will be leaving tomorrow so today is the last day for me .
2 ~ Red Trillium ~ no guarantee they grow...trilliums DO NOT like to be moved!
8 ~ (3 - 4") pots of Veronica 'Giles Van Hee' these are almost to the point of root bound!
4 ~ Qt. size maybe? Lupines can not tell you what color...these are what I have.
good morning Pixie, I'd love a pot of lupines if you have an extra. such pretty pics! Do hummingbirds ever visit yours? Just curious if hummers like it. Are you driving all the way from ME?
edited to add...
Chantell, what do you do with Vitex seeds?
This message was edited May 16, 2013 6:06 AM
Chantell, that'll work for me.
Celeste, I'll try one of the trilliums, and off also like a Veronica and a Lupine. Thanks!
Critter, I once had a VERY LARGE Kousa, probably about a good 12' tall and at least 10 years old before it bloomed. Anyhow, I put it out on Freecycle for free to anyone who was willing to come and dig it out. A couple came and got it. It was a big job, and I don't know of it survived after that. It needed a home, as it was getting too big for the spot it was in, and it was too big for me to move it. I hatred the thought of cutting it down.
Karen
Pixie, may I have a Veronica please?
Pixie. I'd love a trillium and a random lupine.
Wind & Nutsfordayliles I got you down.
The RED TRILLIUM is all gone.
0 left of the the LUPINE & 4 Veronica
UMD_Terp trillium is all gone but I've got you down for a Lupine
Catbird423 you got it
