Jan--
If you leave a space between ...from here: and the http:// the link will be clickable.
As it is now--it is just part of the text....as it is continuous.

Maybe you can edit and put in the space? That will fix it....
Gita

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Oops, got it now. Thanks

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Jan, do you think Melody could un-sticky the other chat and swap threads?

FlowAJen, my raspberries are coming up really small this year. I don't know if they're delayed do to the cool spring or if they haven't recovered well from a fall pruning I was forced to give them. Are you still interested?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I would think it is a good idea to leave the other Threads up--as many of us will refer back to them
as to who asked for what and who had this or that to offer...

Lets leave them up--please!!! They will ALL GO anyway--in just 10 days or so.

Thanks---Gita

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That was my thinking also, Gita. Once the event is over I'll have them unstickied. Til then they can be used for reference.

Excited that coleus lover may be joining us, too.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

...such technical chat "stickied" "unstickied" ... can tell I'm out of it.

have a good day. it's chilly and cloudy here today. keeping the seedlings indoors and under the lights

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

Jill, yes to the variegated vinca, I can see putting some of that in hanging baskets and containers too.

There is a low stone wall in the front yard, a few bits of this would be nice hanging over the edge. I do know it will root wherever it touches the ground.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

ssgardener, yes still interested in the raspberry, thanks

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Karen,

Here are the day lilies that tickle my fancy. I'd be happy with anything really though.
Cranview Alien Encounter, Cranview Fair Time. Karen's Blueberry Dessert, Cranview Movie Theater Butter, Cranview Classy Miss, 94SLQA-2 , DL141.

Cheers to the oncoming soft rain!!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Catbird, When I am a 'good gardener' I treat my vinca major just like liriope and cut off the stems from last year before the new growth appears. Looks better and controls the "rampant" part. Skipping this practice a year or two or three and you'll have a wide wild patch of undulating variegated ground (small plant and bush) cover, a 'look' only some of us have learned to live with successfully. Containers, a good permanent spiller plant. Over a stone wall, likewise, just direct all of those stems over the wall or snip the recalcitrants even though they looc cute 'weaving' in and out. One of the stems I removed this spring was almost 20 feet long! It hadn't rooted in as it was scrambling through some itea bushes above the soil.

Oh, and if you need more just let me know! However, Jill's patch is much better looking than mine!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

CatbirdI'll pull up a couple of bags' worth of the Vinca then and bring it along to the swap. It's such a toughie that I probably won't bother potting any... save that space for other plants!

Happy, search the Walmart site for "Mainstays self watering planter" and you'll see all the options. You're looking for the bigger (12") hanging basket. http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=mainstays+self+watering+hanging+planter&ic=16_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=1072864

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Anyone who hasn't checked out my pics from the previous thread, go back and check them out. I put up pics of all the daylilies I have available, plus a few other things.

Thanks, Gitagal! Maybe I'll do one of each side of the mailbox, and put the other 2 in another spot. I put you down for the daylilies and iris that you and your daughter want. Do you want 2 fans each? I'm giving everyone 2 fans of each daylilies requested. Thanks for the offer of Frans Hals, but I already have that one. LOL BTW, seeds from daylilies will come out different from the parents and cannot be sold as the parent plant, but as an unnamed seedling instead, unless the hybridizer registers it. I will take a red epi and Easter cactus. Thanks!

Wind, I put you down for both the light blue and dark purple dwarf bearded iris, and the 3 daylilies you listed.

Aspenhill, I put you down the the daylilies you requested. Yes, that is the pink one. I labeled them from left to right.

Coleup, did you want me to pick 2 from each picture group for you, or would you like to pick? BTW, I have large patches of vinca here and there, and I really like it, personally, especially when it's blooming. It looks good in the areas where it is, and keeps me from having to mulch those beds.

Happy, you got it!

Memory, put me down for one of those Candy Lilies if you have enough. Thanks.

Jen, I put you down for CCM.

Critteroligist, if you have anymore variegated vinca left, I'll take all you can give me. I'll just take them bareroot if you don't have time to pot up. Just wrap the roots in moist paper towels, and I'll get them planted or potted when I get home.

UMD_Terp, I have you down for the daylilies you want.

Karen

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Just added a new plant to my have list: Campanula punctata (spotted bellflower). It's a spreader, so keep it contained. Great for a container. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53595/

Karen

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Karen, That's the place my vinca works best for me too, amongst my many ditch lilies alongsid eof (wait for it) an asphalt paved ditch!!

I'll Dmail my favs later tonight but if you do sell fans, I'd be interested in a purchase, too, to send to my daughter with new house in Vermont! Let us know if you do do this and maybe instead of plants for you to take back with you, you could have some 'gas money' for that huge truck you'll be filling on the way down! lol

Is everybody having fun?

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Oh, yes, coleup!!!!! Fun, fun, fun!!!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Have plants will travel Plants on board !!!!!

Yesterday we know right away which house was Jill's (Critter or Critterologist) because of all of the vans parked in the driveway with back hatches open and spilling over with plants and bushes and trees of every description!

At one point Jill got us together to do a walk around her yard and each of us pulled out our nippers and trowels and proceeded to take a few of the abundant variety of marvelous plants Jill has established and propagated from tomatoes to Kerria suckers, to lotus to Greek oregano! I love yards that have nursery areas and baby plants everywhere. I think Jill even got some of us to take a few fig cuttings which like the true gardener she is , she couldn't just throw away when she trimmed her enormous bush.

We are all the richer and stretching our gardening muscles for all our swaps and pre swaps like yesterday. And, hey, with one van full each already delivered we all have more room to bring to swap with everyone at Jan's house! And just think what Jan's yard will look like next year when she has found places for most of the plants we inevitably leave behind!

Personally, I'm hoping that some of our more southerly plants will make a journey north with Pixie and Nuts and Yankee Cat and others who have made few requests so far....Doesn't everyone need a black stem taro or some hen chicks if only to enjoy them for a season?

So, I say, let no vehicle drive away unplanted!

Before and after pictures please!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Karen, I have an area that would love to be filled in by Campanula Punctata if you have enough for me!

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

hi Greenthumb, great additions. Love love love salvias!!

Can I try your Lyre-leaved Sage - Salvia lyrata, Great Blue Lobelia - Lobelia siphilitica and Sage of Bath - Salvia officinalis 'Sage Of Bath' if you still have any of those? I always thought of lobelia as a cascading blue bloom vs upright ...interesting...

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Wind - got you covered for your requsest. The Lobelias ( and everything else) I listed are perennial species.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

GreenThumb..I would love any sage / salvia you have to spare.. they are all nice.. don't want to be a hog though

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Onewish - Got you down for the Golden Sage and a Lyre-leaf Sage.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you!!

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

thank you Greenthumb!

I didn't make the perennial connection on your lobelia until I remembered red cardinal flowers. Don't see the blue much in garden centers near me. How fussy is it for soil moisture? I read that it grows best in moist soil. Is yours in sun? shade?

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Greenthumb can I do a great blue lobelia and lyre leaf?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I realized today my Nepeta walkers low patch could be dug up .. if anyone wants any

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Paul - Have you down for the GB Lobelia and the Lyre-leaf Sage.

Wind - I grow my Great Blue Lobelia in locations ranging from mostly sun to mostly shady, and in average moisture. If you plant with a lot of compost to retain moisture it should do fine.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Coleup, I was only going to be trading at this swap, no selling. However, that is an idea. I do have a much longer list of available cultivars for sale, so if anyone does want to buy something that I don't have enough of to trade, I can email a list to whomever is interested. It's in Rich format. It has description and stats on each daylily, and you can easily look up pics here on DG plant files, as well as Tinker's daylily database, and the AHS website. Please dmail me if you're interested. I could bring plants to the swap and you could pay me there. Just remember, the plants I listed for the swap are free. My list of available plants for sale has many more on it. ---- And yes, I'm having a blast!

I have plenty of that Campanula for you, Roses! I'll put you down for that.

Greenthumb99, I just sent you a dmail with a list of what I want from the items you just posted.

Karen

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Memory, I just noticed that you have thornless blackberries. Could I get some from you, please? I would love those!

Thanks.

Karen

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Would anyone be interested in getting some of these red and yellow primula? I don't know the variety, but they're so sweet. I have lots.

Karen

Rattlesnake weed
Early Saxifrage
Spotted Wintergreen
S, lyrata
Pale spike lobelia
Great Blue Lobelia
Trycyrtis Moonlight
Penstemon Blueberry Taffy (seeds ok on this if you are out of the plant)
Please give to Holly for me to pick up at heer house and thanks.

Karen, could you spare a couple plants of that red & yellow primula? I take it that it is hardy & spreads. Just give to Holly S & thanks. Did you get my request for a few daylilies I had listed in an earlier thread? Judy (Buttoneer)

Karen, could I have two of that yellow Iris with the purple falls? Thank you so much.

That primula border is amazing! Wouldn't that be cool with daffs... or red tulips? Are they perennial for you? Do they self-sow? (And yes, I'm interested -- I've just never grown them "for real," just bought an occasional pot in early spring.)

Onewish, I've got a 'Walker's Low' from last year (maybe from you?), but it's not sprouting with enthusiasm, so I'd love another piece, please. That's definitely one I'd like to get established... your term "patch" has me going ummmmmm

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no problem Jill... might not have come from me last year.. but you got it

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nutsfordaylily can I get some of the red primrose please?

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the Campanula, Karen.

Damascus, MD(Zone 7a)

That primula border is fabulous!! How did you get them to grow so well, Karen? I bought a yellow one several years back and planted it in shade, but it grew smaller each year and disappeared all together this year :o(.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yes, please, Karen on the primula. That border of them is beautiful!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I have some of the same primula--have had them for years....Yes! They are, definitely, perennial
and form clumps--as you can see on Karen's picture. Mine are nowhere as pretty as hers, though....;o(
Must be the cooler summers im MA.

The blooms are on longish stems.. Someone once said they are "heirloom"????
So--been around for a long time....
Gita

Damascus, MD(Zone 7a)

Quote from Gitagal :

Must be the cooler summers im MA.

That's a good point. Mine always disappeared in summer and came back in early fall. Of course this time they decided not to come back at all :o(

I wonder if they go into dormancy in MA.
