Yes, bizarre. Cannot believe his family did not know either. And, of course, he was receiving benefits, so we all paid for the ropes and chains and torture instruments.
Coffee Break # 95
Love the hummer shots, Allison! I need to get my feeders out, but it will be 27 degrees on Saturday night. I may have to wait a week. I was going to plant my barrels, but they will have to wait too.
Rosemary, you have some nice plans for the summer. You must be excited about the return of your college kiddies!
It is always very sad to lose so many trees at once. The wooly adelgid decimated our hemlocks in this area. It never looks quite the same. I am not in favor of importing predators because they end up being a problem as well. Think ladybugs in the millions on your porch screens, etc. Now, I do love a pretty little lady bug good luck charm, but hordes are yet another thing.
We had our first wooly adelgid (glad that you spelled that) last summer. The tree service sprayed last fall & out hemlock trees look ok now.
I was at a festival that was run by the master gardeners in our county and had asked the one guy who was bragging about importing another insect to take care of one of the bad ones(can't remember which one it was) but I asked him what happens when they eat up all the bad guys, do they move on to eating our natives? and he just looked at me with a dumbfounded look and moved on to talk with someone else...hmmmmmm
looks like we are dropping down sunday and monday nights Louise.. always has to throw a couple in.. before we are done
They say we will drop into the 30's monday & Tuesday night. :(
Now I have to find out what the effect is of the wooly adgelid. Local nursery guy who is usually good said the white balls on the branches were scale and to use need oil. I have some lovely hemlocks in our front including a weeping sargent hemlock.
My SIL said they had to cut their ash trees just north of Columbus.
We're getting closer to 65 at night when the 17 yr circadas will come out. 55 overnight, now 59F
My hemlocks have some infestation, but apparently they are still able to fight it off as they look pretty good....if things get bad, I'll cut them down....they are shading my garden anyway. It was nice when the hemlocks surrounded our pool....gave us a lot of privacy.
There is a spray which they use in the fall. We have a spray for winter moth in the spring. If you want to keep your hemlocks talk to your local tree service. cheaper than taking down the trees.
Yeah, thanks. I think that sounds like good advice. It would be terrible to lose them. This morning I found 6 red lily beetles on Casablanca! Two of them got away.
hemlock bug is easy to control on property's - tough in the wild.
It would take all summer to get out my dandelions! I'm just too lazy at this point! The dragoon dust is keeping the red lily beetles off, but has to be reapplied after the rain.......will do it again on Sunday after my family leaves....
I keep up on pulling as many as I can.. gives me a panic attack looking at my neighbors lawn covered in them.. I did pull some of hers between our houses.. but I know the rest will blow over here anyway.. I get those big long skinny weeds with prickers on them.. where they touch the ground they root another one.. so annoying.. that thing has been working good on those babies too.. sometimes the thorns get me though my gloves.. so I am happy to rip them out with a gadget
here we go.. 3 mosquito bites already :(
No skeeters yet but 4 ticks. I have something like that weed puller, a cheepie one...keep forgetting to use it.
Found a tick crawling on my hand. they were brought forth by the rain moisture, I suspect. they really try to hide under my watch band.
