I got mine earlier this week....LOVE IT :-) vic
That must mean winter is over.......seeds.....That went by fast........I can dream can't I....
Yeh its hard to believe we are thinking about spring already!Oh what's winter but a planning stagg for spring? lol
:( haven't gotten mine yet
did y'all notice that so many of them have only 5 or 10 seeds in a pack??? I'm just using mine to plan my garden with all my traded for seeds. But of course I found some I'd love to have. Maybe for Christmas, but I really don't need them, somebody stop me!!!!!!!11
tiG stop stop!!!! up don't need them.......!!!! lol ( yeah right ) ya gotta have them!lol Yea I noticed about the seed amounts most of the good seeds are like that anymore if you buy them.Heck with things going on now your are afraid to trade. I been working on my trade list to be able to trade this fall but now not sure I even want to trade right now.
funny thing about trading, all my envelopes fit in the category of suspicious!! handwritten, lumpy, taped......
I've had no end of problems with T&M seeds, I get the catalogue still but I don't buy any more.
Gee, Baa--What kind of problems....I have not, Please tell us more.. WantabeGardener.
I agree with Baa. I've had the worst germination from their seeds. A couple of years ago I've vowed NEVER to order from them again. Not to mention the outrageous prices. The catalog is fun to look at but I buy my seeds elsewhere.
some seeds germinate great others have not i planted a bunch off seed this fall that didn't do anything last spring i figured the climate well. i was right all the seed that failed this spring are thriving this fall go figure. but my selection will be done more carefully from now on. i haven't planted the peas yet hoping they grow good if not i guess in the trash they go.

I'm glad someone else posted their negative experience with T&M first. I have received very miserly portions of seed, and germination is always poor. Prices are nice and high, though! Also, they used to carry much more unusual and rare material, now are becoming more of a standard catalogue. I do love their catalogue though, as a reference tool. It is amusing when they praise some variety as easy to grow and an excellent performer, then underneath it says "not available, crop failure". John
WHERES MINE!!!!!=[
I have never ordered from them, but found their seed packs at Frank's Nusery. IMHO they are over priced, and I got poor germination rate.
BTW, isn't there a s/h fee for the catalogue?
Got Mine
They keep sending them out earlier every year.
Tim I agree I've gotten very poor Germination Rates from Thompsone & Morgans seeds also.
I've also had very poor results with seeds from Jungs out of Wisconsin. I will never buy from them again.
Waiting on my catalog from Johnnys Selected Seeds thats my favorite. Probably the best germantion rates of any seeds sold.

Paul, do they have a website?
"eyes"
you should try a british place where I get a lot of my seeds from,'plantworld seeds' there,s athread about it somewhere else (not sure where though )their seeds literally come up like cress, and they do bargain mix packs of things like 'cottage garden', campanulas' 'polemoniums' and I exaggerate not when I say that you get loads and loads of plants from one packet. They are where I buy most of my seeds from now, there,s stuff from all over the world, I,m dying to go and see their gardens when I,m better.
Eyes.......http://www.johnnyseeds.com/ wish I knew how to Hyperlink.....oh well..
Gee, that is a surprise...how nice...does it on its own....hehehe.....

Sueone....no wonder you want to go visit....a great selection there.....anyone else want to take a look....wonderful......http://home.btclick.com/plantworld/
Thanks for sharing..Sueone...What is the exchange..???? No shipping charges, all over the world...Nice....Wantabe
WG..I to was amazed when it did it on its own!! LOL
I joined the American Horticultural Society this year so I could get a free $15 worth of seed from T&M. Funny, you'd think the AMERICAN horticultural Society would use an American seed company. I wanted to see a year of the magazine and will probably let the whole thing go when the year runs out, but I intend to have a good time with until then. I've found with T&M seeds that you have to pay very close attention to the specific germination requirements for each variety. I'm glad to hear Baa say that they are fussy in the UK as well as here. I thought maybe they were just toying with us colonials. LOL
Wow, Sueone. That's a wonderful resource! I think I was drooling while I was reading it, LOL. Anybody know the approximate exchange rate between dollars and pounds? May have to order a "few" packets of seeds. :)
Well my gripes have been said already LOL If you buy marigolds and snapdragons then the germination is ok but not great, anything other than real easy seeds have really poor germination at a huge cost.
I've also had several packets which are labelled wrong, even on complaining and receiving a bonus packet, both packets were also mislabelled. I don't deal with these people any more and I know many others who won't touch them either.
Plantworld is great and they do have some very unusual plants. 3 nursery people I know who have used them warn not to buy any NEW variegated seeds, they usually come up green and while this is to be expected to a certain degree, the percentage of green plants to variegated tends to be very high. If it is an extablished variegated species then they are ok. Other than that their bonus packets like the 10x cottage garden mix are great value.
Chilterns is my favourite and Plants of Distinction are second. You get more seeds from Chilterns and at a cheaper price. If Chilterns are out of any requested packets they tend to send most if not all your alternative selections, I've had some brilliant deals from them.

Heres a link to compute the Dollar to foreign currency

I have never ordered from a site that used other currencies. When you pay with a credit card are you charged an exchange fee or do they just bill you for the items at the actual cost in dollars with no fees?
The credit card company works out the exchange rate.
Paul
Thanks Paulgrow! Now one more question before I place an order... Will we be able to get viable seeds from them if they are going to radiate the mail?
Thats a good question?
I've been trying to get some answers without much success.
I am going to try and contact some seed companies and see if I get a answer.
If I do I will post it.
Paul
I got an answer back from Johnnies, I posted it on the seed trading forum

Wow I am glad I posted about Thompsons and Morgans I have never ordered from them I thought they where to high. But just so tempting. They do have great pictures thats how they hook you. lol I know now I won't order from them thanks all. I am going to check out the links you have listed above. Thanks everybody.
I don't know specifically about this seed company's plans, but over on the heirloom forum Melody posted info about the P.O.'s irradiation plans and the seed companies. I *think* the seed companies will work out arrangements with the USPS to avoid having their labeled packages irradiated.
Got my catalog 2 days ago.I also have had so-so germination rates with T&M on their selections of rarer plants. GREAT catalog though. I like Crosman's seeds best but I have also bought from Johnny's and swallowtail with good success.
Hi Wantabegardener, thanks for the hyperlink, there is another company too with that name, but unfortunately they don,t have a web site yet,and they are the ones I was talking about, but the ones you posted seem good too, though I,ve never bought from them.
The other one is
'Plantworld'
St Marychurch Rd
Newton Abbot
Devon
TQ12 4SE.
They mention the other one in their catalogue!I,ve got a couple of spare catalogues if anyone wants me to post it to them.
Sue
I just got my T&M yesterday. Now last year they wouldn't sell poppy seeds to the states... It looks like they've had a change of heart and it's Ok this year. Unless - I'm looking in the wrong place.
Poppysue
Don't know if you've seen it yet a big article in this months OG magazine on Poppies (maybe you wrote it)
I got my in the mail today.
Paul
No I haven't seen it. What's it about? Legalities? I used to get OG but I think my subscription ran out. I'll have to see if I can pick up a copy.
