This is the Plant Swap & Chat Thread for those coming to the Spring Swap at Jan23's on May 18th. Spring is moving in fast so now is the time to start.
HAVE & WANT LISTS, I will have a separate thread just for the lists so they don't get lost in all the chat. You will be able to look at the lists then come here to make requests and chat about your trades.
Have/Want Thread
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1305619/
Some of you may want to make prearranged swaps and this is where you can arrange them.
Have and Want lists let people know what plants you are interested in, or give you an idea of how much of a particular plant to bring. It also gives you a chance to look up unfamiliar plants people are bringing and see how they would fit into your garden.
It's not necessary to prearrange all your trades, There will be lots of on the spot swapping. Don't hesitate to bring extra
plants as there will be friends and family here that do not access DG so I am sure that you won't be taking those extras home with you. You may also find that what you think of as a common plant is on someone’s wish list. So just pot up your extra plants and seedlings, come and enjoy. Jan

Chat and swap thread for The RU at Jan23's on May 18th
Thanks, Jan!
I have 2 white containers with trellises that look like this: http://www.plowhearth.com/planter-with-trellis-and-self-watering-reservoir_p4810.html
They're from Bec_nova's garden. The plants in these containers had to be drastically cut down for transport, so I'm waiting to see what pops back up. There are clematis, roses, and chocolate vines in there that will be potted up separately from the trellises. I'll write them up on the HAVES list when I see new growth on them.
I'm waiting on my wintersown seedlings to see what else I can offer. I'm hoping to have a ton of extra butterfly weeds.
I have a lot of very healthy angelina sedum, but I'm afraid to dig anything out of my garden since three different beds have had fungal issues. Please let me know if you'd still like some angelina.
Saving this spot for info
Gotta love it!
Roses and SS you both have listed bamboo on your WANTS list. Can you be more specific?
I know Ric has a source and so do I. Did you mean plants or poles? If poles, what size? length? I use thin ones to stake my floppy plants for instance.
I can source two types, both 'running': one grows quite tall and the other stays shorter, around 6-8 feet.
Coleup, I only want bamboo cuttings for staking. :) I can't grow it in my yard.
I'm not sure about length... about 5 feet? They're for the raspberries and a newly planted arborvitae.
Sometimes Holly and Ric have some Bamboo cuttings which I would appreciate, or if there are any baby plants.
Do you really want horrible running bamboo? I am constantly eradicating a low bamboo -- maybe 24"? If I haven't finally killed it (I haven't seen any yet this season), I'd be happy to bring you some. But I can't see why you'd want it!
Heehee, bamboo you either love it or hate it. In a container I would love it.
I'd shudder, but maybe that's because we've had such a time getting rid of it. But it's nothing like the challenge of the unvariegated Aegepodium -- we've been trying for 20+ years to eliminate it. Now that is a plant I dislike!
Hi Jan, Harry and I are going to plan to come!! thanks for the invite ^_^
Diana
Awesome, wind!! I'm not too far from you.
I have 2 rose of sharon trees that I wintersowed last year. Both are about 2 feet tall now and healthy, but I have no idea what color the blooms are.
I also have a ton of john creech sedum that I dug up when I redid the stepping stones.
SS--
Did you get the Rose of Sharon seeds from me by any chance? At a Swap?
I have had some in my stash and they are a pretty double pink.
If you go to my Trade List--there will be a picture of them there--as well as the name--
I think it was something like--"chiffon Mist"....Not sure---I could go downstairs and look--
but don't feel like it...
Ric and I will have cut Bamboo poles on our Have list when I post it and there isn't any problem bringing it. I wouldn't plant it in my yard and I have a lot of invasive plants.
Gita, I might have gotten them from you! I'm curious to see how the blooms turn out.
Holly/Ric - I'd love some more bamboo cuttings to make 'tepees' for the vines in the back yard....grateful for any. 5'-6' would be ideal but whatever size is manageable will be a blessing!
Wind - I've got you down for 1 Red Yucca & a PB bush toddler - you asked first so you get the big one that I saw out there when doing some cleaning up last weekend.
Roses - may I have 1 of the Echinacea Pow Wow Berry, please?

Bamboo lovers and haters, old friends of mine are bamboo experts and have a research farm trialing 'landscape Grade bamboo' in Tenn. Here is a link to their photo gallery. Like most plants there are so many different kinds of bamboo. Maybe you'll see one you like or come to appreciate. So much to learn, so little time!

thanks Chantell!! hopefully I'll have something you would like to try. I plan on starting to post to our list in a few weeks after a seedling head count lol. I'll probably have cherry tomatoes (regular and chocolate) and hope to have hollyhocks, eyeball plant and other cottage garden flowers to share
Coleup, I'll take any baby semps that you have to spare. Angelina has totally taken over my teeny rock garden. I need to replace them with something better behaved like hens and chicks.
I've got you down for a Pow Wow Echinacea, Chantell.
Coleup, I'll take any baby semps, too please.
Ok Chantell.
Holly, I'm also asking for some Bamboo Cuttings if you still have some. Thanks, Teri
Already have you and SSG marked.
Thank you.
Wind
I would like to request (at least) one of your Lady in Red Salvia, and one of your cherry tomato seedlings. Keep an eye on my Haves list for heirloom tomatoes (not listed yet).
Roses
I am requesting one each of lisianthus pink and ivory.
Thanks
wind--
I would like yo have one or two Lady in Red Salvia. I had it last year and liked it a loy..
Also--A pot of your "Inky Fingers Coleus"
Thank you muchly! Gita
I have several heirloom tomato seeds--(Jill is the one who has a slew of the heirlooms.)
Mortgage Lifter
Cherokee Purple
Yellow Brandywine
Sungold Cherry--NOT an heirloom--a hybrid, and it can "sport'...
SS--
I want to dig up a med. clump of regular lavender. It is in a bad spot.
Are you interested? Gita
Yes, Gita! I love lavender so much and have killed so many. I'm going to do my best to keep this one alive!
OK! It's yours! I wonder if I should cut it back?????
It is pretty tall--with all the new growths near the top.
What do you say? Gita
Hm... I think they're supposed to be cut back after flowering. But what do I know! I'm a serial lavender killer.
Nisi, gotcha covered for the Lisianthus.
Does anyone have sedum cape blanco or any other silver colored sedum?
Diana - I'd actually love whatever eyeball plant (Acmella oleracea) you have to spare. I've got to check my notes but I know I was looking for those as they're used medicinally. Please and thank you.
Nisi, Gita and Chantell got your requests!! I may miss others though. If it is not too much trouble please put requests for me in my Dmail too, just so I don't overlook any. Thanks!!
Gita, you'll love the inky fingers, it is my favorite. I actually overwintered cuttings so I'd have it and they all survived!! It's stunning cascading out of pots.
Chantell, the eyeball plant is really cute. I love that one too. Some years I forget to grow it. I remembered to plant seeds this year. It's one of those that you don't easily find at garden centers.
Nisi, did you want regular cherry tomatoes and/or chocolate cherry tomatoes?
My friend Patti would like tomatoes and if anyone has peppers.
Chantell, I would like Weigela if there's one available for me.
Chantell, I would be interested in
Some of Becky's succulents
Shooting Star Gardenia cuttings
Hoya lacunosa cuttings
wind---
Are the "Inky Fingers" a trailing Coleus? Asking bc of your comment.."cascading out of the pot"..
I take cuttings every year of my Coleus. They all root and grow---I have, by now, re-pinched them twice,
each time putting the tops (again) to root.
By now--the first cuttings are no more than ugly, semi-bare stems...wonder if they would ever fill out...
Six months is just too long to keep rooted cuttings looking fresh. Same for some other things i rooted--
like Persian Shield. They look downright ugly by now...pale as can be...no more leaves to speak of...
Everyone---enjoy the summery weather this week! Gita
