Lynne, those are fabulous! I love the plants you chose. My columbines did not spread or bloom. I think they are in too much shade, maybe.
April Blooms
WOW! Everything's looking great!
Wonderful! I was at Fort Worth botanical gardens today for flowercade. Garden clubs members submit a cutting of plants/flowers/trees etc (lots of categories). I saw the cardoon articoke leaf that drthor posts. Was really interesting. Some amazing iris too. Many of your pics would surely win a blue ribbon too.
LynneH_Tx
wonderful pictures. I love your Peggy martin rose. I lost mine to Rose Rosette disease ... sad ...
Love the Conflowers ... my favorite flower after poppies. Everything is so amazing today in the garden.
The wind is so high, I will try to post some pictures later.
Yes, it certainly is especially at your house.
Wow that one is such a different color. It is beautiful.
I thought it was a bit "ugh" at first, but a iris friend said there is one like it that took some awards one year, so my opinion improved! LOL!
Sheila_FW
you know I am not good with names. Actually you have my favorite Iris.
Picture really doesn't give it justice. The colors are amazing and also a very unusual shape.
I used to go to the Iris Society sale at NHG every year. That's why I have so unusual shapes irises and color. Now I just need to start to divide them.
Sheila, your iris looks a lot like 'Thornbird': http://www.hips-roots.com/photos/thornbird.html
drthor's iris has flounces or spoons at the end of the beards as well as horns, so it's a different one.
Yew mine is a THORNBIRD too ... oohhh my favorite. It is so tall and colorfull
My 'Thornbird' has never produced flounces, but evidently all the Space Age iris, the ones with horns, can produce horns, spoon, and flounces, and may vary from year to year. 'Thornbird' does have a unique color, and I like it better now than I did years ago when I first got it.
No idea what the flounces etc are....just learned what the beard was this w/e at FW flowercade! Pat, maybe you can give me a mini lesson at the RU
Whoops! Hit the "send" button too soon! LOL
1. Grapes! This is only the second year we've had these grape plants (the hubby got them from Aldi!) and we're excited they survived the freeze and neglect of last year.
2. Dianthus barbatus--this has bloomed every year for the past 3 years and it's always this vibrant hot pink. I love it! I tossed some seeds from this plant along the strip by the driveway and I got a very light carnation pink.
3. Blackfoot Daisy from Anna (?) at a RU a couple of years ago.
4. Texas Betony is going wild.
5. Texas Cedar Sage
so nice ....
If the "tongue" at the end of the beard is flat, I'd call it a spoon; split and ruffled, a flounce. I can't tell from your photo which yours is. Sheila's bloom had horns, pointed protrusions at the end of the beard without a spoon or flounce. It's interesting that the same iris may bloom with or without spoons or flounces.
thanks.
what is the iris on your avatar?
My avatar is 'Pheasant Feathers,' one of my very favorites.
Stephanie....I counted about 37 or more and got dizzy! About 15 have pupated so far. I gave all the fennel to the larger ones and then switched the wee ones over to my Rue. I have them in four cages for now, but I may have to expand as they grow!!
Sheila, there were some eggs in that fennel as well, so you might end up with more!
Yes, I have seen a couple since for sure.
Just beautiful Cheryl!
Beautiful! I would spend a lot of time in those chairs, just looking and enjoying. :-)
Carla
Thats what I do. The whole area is planted with those two humble chairs in mind.
C
Very lovely Cheryl, looks like those natives are friendly and are treating you well.
I'd have to say mostly natives Josephine, there are a lot of others mixed in.
Lovely garden Cheryl!
So nice ... it is amazing that we live in the same area and our gardens look all so different from each others. Well done !
