I don't have pictures ... but the first of season Hummingbird Moths were feeding from my Scabiosa last evening. They usually go for the Dianthus (which is blooming and smells heavenly right now) but they liked the Scabiosa this time. I love this time of year!

April Blooms
I saw the first Hummingbird moth maybe 2 weeks ago, around my Arugula flowers ... it is very hard to take pictures
Drthor, I adore the orange peony!
Stephanie, your Pincushion Daisy is what I call Scabiosa.

I'm in zone 8a and I only have 2 BlueBonnets blooming. Lol My Wisteria is just starting to get a few leaves, my Lady Banks and China Blush roses are getting buds.
I just bought seeds for the French Hollyhock. Do you have any advice on when should sow them? Thanks!
I'm really enjoying all the pics maybe I'll have some to share after the next cold front.
Carla, you are correct! I know it by both names.
Joy, the field across our road usually looks like that but not for another month or so. Great pics

fantastic pictures, especially the second one !
1lisac, this is just a guess, but you can probably sow the French hollyhocks now. We started with a little 2" seedling from our pastor's neighbor about ten years ago. It grew and multiplied and we've had them ever since. They self sow freely, and we have them at all different stages all the time. Right now, I have 1" to 6" new plants and two mature plants in bloom that came up as seedlings last fall. They do stay green all winter in our zone.
Ok I was just looking at the seed packet. I'll sow them now. I think if I sow them in the fall I have a better chance of getting flowers in the Spring but I have a MUCH better chance of forgetting about them too.

in my garden I planted the French Hollyhocks a few years ago and it re-seed like crazy every where. It was too invasive here ..
Mine have not been invasive enough to be a problem. There are usually a few that come up where I don't want them, but I just dig them up and replant them where they belong - like little stray lambs. Just this week, I noticed one growing in our stone path. It'll get moved this weekend. By the way, drthor, your flowers are beautiful!! I'm amazed at how many you have blooming already!
Wonderfully beautiful! I love the smell of peonies in the house!
All of these are still blooming from last month
1 The jerusalem sage is about 4 feet wide now
2 My cabbage is getting leggy
3 The bridal wreath knows Im going to prune it to the ground when it finishes so it just keeps going.
4 One of my pots of pansies and violas that did not get stolen (someone's Easter present I suppose.)

Wow, Cheryl, those pitcher plants are awesome! Ive never known anyone who's had them before. They look like they would need very special growing conditions. Your columbines did a lot better than mine. Ive got nary a bloom. Bet it wasn't cold enough here. The plants look healthy but they've not multiplied like yours. Those are gorgeous. Hope mine do that some day.
Flowers from my parking strip (between the sidewalk and street). Is so satisfying to be done -spent over a year digging up the grass and planting it. The reward is so sweet. (Sorry they are sideways -don't know how to control that)
1. White phlox and yellow columbine
2. Purple coneflower
3. Browneyed susan
4.Peggy Martin rose
5. Gulf coast penstamen
