Coffee Break # 94

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I cant believe she has grown so much.Is she walking yet?
Dont they start about 1 year?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

She's not walking or crawling but is really only around 9 months. She goes from lying to sitting by herself. Saw the doc last week who said she is tall and skinny per the growth chart. She's 27.5 inches and 17.5 lbs. She has grown a foot. She is a happy baby.

Wonderful to hear you being able to see and enjoy Leah so much, Debi! She's a very lucky little girl!

Thomaston, CT

I didn't realize you were so close! I'm 40 minutes away.....My 1st gchild, Hayden, was 4-5 weeks premature....had to be born emergency C-section......she was slow to sit, crawl, & walk......now she's several grades ahead in reading & math, plays the violin, plays lacrosse, & loves to jump moguls!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

That's the remarkable thing about preemies. I wish I had a nickel for the number of times a teacher told me my third born, DD2 wouldn't make it in the Lexington Public Schools. That was only in the early grades. It just proves they were watching the wrong things, thinking developmental milestones are a race, etc.

When a skill came on board with my kids, it was a big thrill because in some skills they went from worst to amazing within a few weeks. Examples--DD1 was tone deaf and could not reproduce a music sequence. She kept at it, and suddenly it was there. She got so good musically that the orchestra teacher gave her private lessons to try to groom a first cellist for the award winning orchestra, and her piano playing can bring tears. DD2 had uneven gait and poor muscle tone. Suddenly in 6th grade she acquired a really fast arm for softball pitching, and in high school she won the coach's leadership award in track at the final banquet. DS is still breaking through the barriers. From being completely unable to write a sentence, he went to perfect score on the writing part of the SAT! He is also developing his viola skills at every college break, so the lifelong learning idea has become more important than competing.

I think they appreciate their abilities so much more because they had to watch and work on them to develop.

Robin, by next door I mean a mile walk :-)
Glad to hear others good progress too. It just might be grandma speaking but Leah appears to be smart, very observant, and quick to imitate.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

That is wonderful to see.

South Hamilton, MA

If given time, they develop as the example of the triplets shows. I wish that teachers didn't think that they are doctors.

Thomaston, CT

Every child learns differently & at their own pace.....Grant has had hearing problems since birth, because of being on a ventilator so long......after several years in preschool, his speech is much better.....hopefully his hearing will be better also.....his parents work with him, & that helps.

I just gotta crow about David Cowles.I have known him since he was a 4 year old playing Purple Pirates a game he invented. His mom is a friend and his late father was my pottery professor.
This will appear on Sesame Street today.
He has been a well known illustrater since practically forever.

Talented guy! Grant chose a documentary on South African sharks yesterday......At 4, he doesn't want to watch "baby shows"! Hello......what happened to childhood? My classmates & I in 6th grade would run home from school to watch the Mickey Mouse Club!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I listened to The Green Hornet,Lets Pretend ( fairytales told in multiple voices) The Shadow.I wouldnt miss it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

spotted a river otter on the pond late yesterday, easy to spot with the snow - it was to quick for me to grab a picture before it ran into the woods - at first i thought it was a fisher before its unique gate gave its identity away.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Otters are awesome!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

How exciting, Bill! I love otters too!

Jo, that is very exciting and great to see such programming around still!

I was a Winkie Dink & You fan. It was a show on our local WINK tv station. They gave out "screens" that fit onto your tv screen, and you could learn to draw along with Winkie Dink. It was very cool!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I was 10 or so when after school programs were on.1946.No TV just radio and an imagination.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

only the second time i've seen one here - and i also agree, otters are very cool!
