Good to know Jo. :)

Thomaston, CT

Those orchids were awesome, Louise! My stepson would really enjoy that experience, will have to tell him to get there.....are the gardens in Ft. Myers? Rosemary, glad you are on the mend.....I like the Compost cup, Pixie....I'm taking down 2 pines, Jo, before the nesting season starts! Only hope there are no owls in them, because they are nesting already.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

heal quickly rosemary - sounds like it went well - what was worse the 60 injections? :)

nice colorful orchids louise!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Yep, the injections and the anticipation of more pain were definitely the worst.

They played distracting music and the surgeon even sang, so it kept me from thinking about the pulling sensations as they isolated different muscles, etc. I can deal with a little forced vacation because I'd probably forget what I was doing at work. Still amazed by how little swelling and bruising there is today.

DD2 is coming home tonight for her spring break. It is amazing at age 19 and a half, she is starting to become thoughtful again. As a preschooler she used to cover me with a blanket if I fell asleep on the couch. During the surgery I thought about this little girl who quickly learned all the Cat's cradle moves.

How sweet! I missed not having a daughter, but my granddaughters are my loves......

Hope it continues to go well, Rosemary. Enjoy being cared for by DD!

Robin, Selby Gardens is in Sarasota. It is well worth a visit! Yesterday they also had a neat exhibit of South American Tribal Masks that had been very artfully carved out of balsa wood and painted with acrylics. Very colorful! Here are a few. All were on sale (expensive) and most had sold during the opening night of the exhibit. I bought a small (8inch or so) unpainted carved mask to paint. It will be fun.

Sorry you will have to stand on your head to see the masks upright. Rosemary, you'd better skip the gymnastics to see them for now.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Wow Rosemary that sounds like an ordeal...I would have had to be knocked out! Heal well!
Lovely orchids Louise!
I missed not having a daughter too at times Marilyn, love having granddaughters and then there are times glad I didn't have daughters!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Louise those are stunning!! I'm partial to the ones with tree frogs.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Me too! I also like the colorful parrots. Those sold for between $475 & $650, if I recall correctly.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Even sideways, the masks look great!

Thomaston, CT

Exquisite! I love them, Louise....can't wait to see your painted! Since Mike is in Sarasota, he might have been there already...if not, he'll definitely want to get there.......

I noticed that when you click to enlarge them, they look very distorted and compressed. Each one is around two feet tall in actual size. Very pretty artistry in the carving and the painting.

Randy and I had such a nice day.. we met with a group that gets together every month and builds Halloween props together .. learned a lot today.. going to be torn now to save the milk jugs for WS'ing or melt them to make skull faces.. they used a ceramic or heat resistant skull .. cut the top off the milk jug ... cut the handle off .. made a cross cut on the side with the handle .. wrapped it around the skull and used a heat gun to melt it ... looked like shrink wrap almost.. they use a water pan under the skull support to use a paint brush & roller and the water cools the spot quicker if you want to set the detail.. way too cool.. will save us a bunch of money if you want a bunch of them .. can stain or paint them.. whatever.. they even took spray foam and filled them so they were sturdier .. felt like a kid in school today.. too fun!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sounds like a perfect day for youse guys!!! Looking forward to seeing the results in a few months.

Drink More Milk!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

That sounds really cool Allison. Can't wait to see one!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

O M G sounds like tons of fun.Do they create crismiss stuff from milk bottles?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love you JoAnn.. just got my wheels turning.. thinking of christmas tree shop figurines ... thanks!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Very neat idea's!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

How about stars or snowflakes. It might be possible to control the size too.
Gallon bottles for huge flakes on large out door trees.

Ohhh yes the wheels turning.
I like the group effort idea.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it amazed me how the milk bottle plastic turned clear.. and you can mold it.. hit it with the water.. and it went back to the foggy color .. the edges melted together .. so I bet you can use different bottles to make something larger.. not sure how secure it would be.. but need to do this outside for sure.. the fumes will kill you..

they had to cut the back of the bottles off to get it off the skull shape.. and used a dollar store soldering iron to seal the edge back up

we came home with all sorts of goodies too.. styrofoam sheets, styrofoam forms we can cover either with hypertufa or something like that.. and a big box of goolish stuff ... they did the round robin like we do with plants at an RU ... only 2 people brought all the prizes.. food was good.. we had a great day.. oh and at least 3 of them were gardeners .. the people that owned the house we went to have seedlings growing all over.. she has an organic veggie garden in the yard.. priceless!!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Allison: I wonder if there are clay trays or cookie molds to use for snowflakes.
I fused plastic bags and the fumes are killers. I used baking parchment with the plastic between the sheets.Fused using an Iron, pieces can be cut and rejoined ,Always fuse between parchment or you ruine a good iron, not that I ever use one anymore.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Wow! That is so cool! It sounds like a great group for you and Randy to enjoy - just like we all enjoy getting together with our DG friends. I really enjoyed reading the idea session you and Jo just brainstormed. Great way to wake up!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

O M G I forgot about St.Patrick day.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Luck of the Irish to you all! I like crafty things to do....sounded like a great day, Allison.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it was.. oh and he took a shiatsu massager ... pulled it apart and made it the waist of a prop.. so it moves around.. learned and saw some cool things.. now I have to add massagers to my freecycle watch list.. LOL

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Better put up a big sign each time you make those things. Can see the headlines:

"DGer home raided...innumerable potential meth labs found throughout...neighbors report noxious fumes emanating from residence..."

the audio on the video stinks.. 3 parts to it

Leah just went home, I had her overnight so the kids could drink a little green beer. Too bad I can't post pics from my isomething.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I loved overnights.

Thomaston, CT

I'll bet she was a wonderful guest! I never get overnighters because the other gparents are next door....:>(

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Funny Robin, because I am next door, but her other grandma usually sees her more. She's away for 3 weeks, so it's all me now! The best part was napping curled up on the couch together.

Now that she is getting older, (11 months on Tues) I can walk there and take her out in the stroller on my morning walks. She goes for a preemie follow up at the hospital next month, her first since she left.
