We are going to be getting snow tomorrow. I don't want it as it will cover my blooms.
Kilobulb Planters 2013
Yes, but think how pretty it will look as the snow melts and the blooms peek out. Besides, Joyanna is dying to make snow angels. The last snowfall here was slush, really, and she came inside dripping wet from trying to make slush-angels.
I had quite the surprise when I went into the basement to water my tropical plants, and I found my yellow calla leafed out and with a bloom. I guess I should ignore my plants more often..
My mixed Hyacinths continue to get taller, thanks to all of the rain we've been having. I also found another plant blooming in the backyard that I planted years ago, and I don't recall the name.
So pretty. I am still waiting for my Hyacinths to appear out of the ground.
Your blooms are so pretty Patti, thanks for sharing. I love the way your bulbs have naturalized.

Wow, you really have a lot going on for so early in the season. So very pretty!
Snow makes them look stunning. But enough. Snow not blooms. Patti
After a couple of warm days, the snow that fell last weekend is gone everywhere but in the shady spots. The plants loved the moisture and are showing their appreciation by growing. I thought things were coming up later this year, so I took a look at photos from the same date in 2012 - the last two photos are March 28, 2012 - look at the difference!

Annette, curse you and your Gudoshcnick-hogging kilobulb friends!
Lol, just kidding, and I bet I wouldn't have time, energy, money, etc. to plant enough to make a ZOW impression. I'll just let you guys do all the work and admire from a distance.
I busted out laughing when I read your post carrielamont, too funny ;~))))) I tend to order early to get the bulbs that I want. I made the mistake of waiting to get the Parrot mix from Colorblends, and they were out. I loved Gudschnick so much last spring, that I ordered more in the fall.
Jill, the snow makes a beautiful backdrop for your blooming crocus. They are so pretty. I have planted hundreds of crocus over the last several years, but I didn't have many blooms from them this year. I have also had them show up in areas that I didn't plant them. I wonder if these grew from seed, or is some of my garden friends moved the corms around the garden.

sooo nice !
Pleazzeeee more pictures !
Thanks for the compliment, DrThor. I think the unusual weather caused everything to be very early in 2012 - here are the same beds on April 15, 2010 (pics 1 & 2), May 5, 2008 (pic 3), April 24, 2009 (pic 4) and April 14, 2011 (pic 5). I'm sure the variety could cause some variation, however, I usually choolse Mayflowering varieties because they seem to take the heat better and last a little longer. The white tulips ("Maureen", I think) were the longest-lasting variety I have ever grown. The red tulips ("Orange Bouquet" - lol) were also long-lasting.
Very nice !
It is strange, because this year we are behind. The weather has been cooler ... not colder ... just a little bit cooler than previous years ... I hope we will have a cooler summer too.
Working out in the garden today I see so many places where I could (and should) plant crocus as they would look so nice. Not that I didn't plant crocus last fall, I planted about 1,150. And I thought I did well at that number. But looking around it is apparent to me that I would need 5,000 more (yes 5,000) to plant them in most of the spots I think should have them.
I put 500 of those crocus I planted (large flowered mix) in the Southside rose garden and afterward I saw where the squirrels had been digging them up. But I thought they couldn't have gotten them all. Well, so far very, very, very few have come up there. I planted crocus in other places around the garden but apparently the squirrells left them alone and just had a feast with the ones in the roses garden. Drats! My plan was for all those crocus to look stunning before the roses leafed out.
So I will be ordering another batch of the same and replanting in the roses garden. I wonder what I can do to keep the squirrels away from them this time around?
Plant them deeper and start feeding the squirls a week or two before you start planting and do leave the place like you find it or add mulch o er it and have the sprinkler going every other day for a week or so. But keep feedin them peanuts on 2 or 3 place away from the roses. Works for me every time.
Good idea! Thanks.
DH trapped a bunch of the squirrels early last fall before we planted our annual mess of bulbs. He moved them out to a large wooded area miles from our house that is conservation land, but don't tell anyone. The deer and rabbits munch on too many as it is to allow the squirrels to add to our troubles. They were introduced to the island only in the late 70's by mistake and have started to be a problem. They hitched a ride over on the trucks bringing over firewood from NH and Vt. We are guilty of helping cause their arrival as we have a wood stove.
Here are some shots today of the garden

Rita, Iris Reticulata are very pretty individually. I love that you have them in a group. They look so pretty en masse a do all the crocus blooms. While some of ours are up, I think the bulbs put in last fall haven't come up yet. I can see all kind of cracks in the soil where I expect new shoots.
Our daffs are still only buds even though they are the first to sprout up.
The Reticulata are so small that I can't see planting them all alone. The group effect really works for them.
Oh, all your blooms are too pretty!
Hey, I planted the Bloomsday mix from Colorblends myself last fall. 100 of them. It looked so pretty in the picture. And I also planted 100 Red Impression tulips. I hope those come back next year. Never planted any of the Impression tulips before.
I have a stand of Gudoshnik tulips, this will be the third year they have come up. Lovely tulips.
Thanks Rita, and you're going to love the Bloomsday mix blooms.
The Impression tulips are supposed to come back for several years. I haven't planted Pink Impression in 2 years, and I have some blooms this year. The Sancere is a single late tulip that has now come back for the 3rd year, which I'm excited about. When I first started planting tulips, I was told that theywouldn't t come back in GA, that they'd rot due to our clay soil. I have mine in raised beds that have been amended, and the beds are also on a slant, due to the topography of the lot, which must help with drainage, and I've been lucky to have them come back for several years. I have La Courtine from 2 years ago, and Gudoschnick from 2011 also planted in the same area as Sancere, so I'll be interested to see if they come back as well.

Annette, what a lovely spread. The violas fill in beautifully. Have not planted tulips in at least 4 years but have been lucky tht many still bloom. Unfortunately we have deer for dinner guests.
