I think the unusual weather caused everything to be very early in 2012 - here are the same beds on April 15, 2010 (pics 1 & 2), May 5, 2008 (pic 3), April 24, 2009 (pic 4) and April 14, 2011 (pic 5). I'm sure the variety could cause some variation, however, I usually choolse Mayflowering varieties because they seem to take the heat better and last a little longer. The white tulips ("Maureen", I think) were the longest-lasting variety I have ever grown. The red tulips ("Orange Bouquet" - lol) were also long-lasting.
