See the line where it said that most of the recalls are problems with the dog foods because of moldy grains?
Can't understand why anyone still feeds their dogs food with grain in it, dogs are supposed to eat meat and some veggies, some rice
Wall-e does Blue, high protein

Price. I wonder how much people food has moldy grains.
Yup definitly price. I use a good brand called Blue Seal...lamb and potatoes or pork and sweets, add yogurt and cottage cheese and sometimes leftovers from our dinner.
I get all my dog food from the local feed store....he was a chem teacher, & has taken courses & written books on pet nutrition....Robin's coat was a mess when we adopted him....showed him to Mark....a few weeks later his coat was beautiful.....he wasn't a healthy dog, but I blame his problems on the 3 families who had him before we did.....
Jen - Here is a link to a low wattage outdoor heating pad http://cozywinters.com/shop/kh-1070-1090.html. Lots of sites have them and you could probably find them at a pet store as well. They only heat up under the pet and not the whole house. I saw on the news that it is going to be single digits over night next week. I also have a lot of straw in the box (not hay - it has seeds) as it wicks the water off Meeyow if he get wet and is good insulation as well.
thanks!
You GOTTA be kidding!

close to my house.. LOL
I could just see Winston doing that!!
oh for pete's sake!
I think the dogs like the attention.
Hope wouldn't sit still long enough to do that.. running around jumping on my head
I would love to think that if you have that kind of $$ to spend on stupid crap like that, you would donate it to a good charity.
If it calmed Robs it would have been worth the money!
I remember the one rescue we had, she was just a mess of nerves and a trainer I talked to tried to get me to join a massage therapy class for her...200 bucks for 5 weeks...think I could have done that on my own time for free!
People pay to go to the gym all the time, take yoga classes, pilates or whatever. Now they can include their dogs. What a creative idea. It gives the dog a chance to spend some time with a destressed owner. Of course if it cost more than about two dollars a week it's outside my budget right now.
Yes, Victor, like donating the money to an animal rescue agency or shelter.
Doug, even 200 a week would be out of my budget.
Karen
I agree with the donation to animal rescues and shelters. Note that the ASPCA just got a huge fine $ 9.3 million for lauching a nuisance lawsuit against Barnum and Bailey circus over the care of their elephants. Giving money to the large "animal charities" doesn't actually support the care of animal is a waste IMHO. The president of the ASPCA just stepped down late last year from his $500,000 a year job. Here is the ruling in the elephant abuse case:
... a federal judge in Washington, D.C., found after a bench trial in December 2009 that the animal rights groups paid a former Ringling Bros. employee at least $190,000 in order to secure his “initial and continuing participation as a plaintiff in this litigation” and dismissed the case for lack of standing. A federal appeals court upheld the dismissal of the suit last year.
I would prefer giving to the local shelters. ASPCA drains money away from the state programs as well.
There's an animal abuse case going on in my area right now...this guy's shelter is the SPCA...then there's a disclaimer that he's not part of the national organization....so how come he's able to use the name? 65 dogs were seized from a barn in the town next to mine....it was unheated, the dogs were in small crates, & had no access to food or water.....and he's blaming the animal control officer & state police saying they're not qualified...oh, & a local vet as well....I hope he gets the maximum.....
Did the dogs get out OK and moved to better housing?
Yes, we give to local shelters.
All the dogs are in other shelters, but cannot be adopted since the case is still pending....he had the nerve to say the shelters would pick the cream of the crop & euthanize the rest.....disgusting.
I bring dog food to the 11th hour rescue .. when I can
Marilyn - I think the man is right about the euthanization but that is better then freezing and starving and dying of thirst.
I was going to say, they may be better off euthanizing them, poor things
Depends how healthy some of the animals are. Some may be too far gone to save.
I feel so bad...we have a small cat living under our front porch and think I should feed it...not sure if that would be good or bad. I certainly don't want a family moving in but it's just soooo cold out.
Oh, poor kitty....I would feed it....the dogs probably won't let it in the house..or would they? I don't believe the animal control officer thought any of the dogs would be euthanized...they seem to be doing OK in the shelters where they are.....this guy sounds like a hoarder to me.
No I wouldn't take the chance of bringing it in.
It needs extra calories in this cold weather, please feed it. Check to see if there is a TNR (trap-neuter-release) group in your area who could arrange to have it "fixed" so it won't become a family.
I'll have to pick up some food...can I give it dog food for now?
chicken or tuna fish would work.. no?
I have both. I can put that out in the morning until I get to the store. Is dry food better?
Most people I know with cats do 1 meal with dry and 1 meal with canned
Dog food is better than no food but only in a pinch as it is too low protein for cats to survive on. I feed only canned food but notice that it freezes very quickly in this weather, so dry food is a good choice for the cold. If cat will come for feeding then wet and leave some dry out. Hopefully cat is getting some fresh meat on its own. Even more critical than food is water. I don't have another outlet or I would have an electric water bowl out. As it is, I use a black rubber bowl and fill it with hot water in the house to soak up some heat and then fill it with cool water (takes longer to freeze than hot) and put it out on the porch in the morning and evening.
Here is a link to building cat shelters http://www.neighborhoodcats.org/HOW_TO_FERAL_CAT_WINTER_SHELTER I have seen them built from old coolers and the styrofoam boxes that food is mailed in. Even a big pile of straw or leaves in a dry place is a help to keeping warm. Usually cast will keep a territory and not let others move in, so you probably don't have to worry about attracting a crowd. If you need assistance in getting cat "fixed" let me know and I will try and find a TNR group or a low-cost clinic in your area.
Thank you for taking care of cat from the bottom of my heart.
Memory, have a wonderful series of books about 3 cats & their human.....first book is called The Cat, the Quilt, & the Corpse, by Leann Sweeney. You'd enjoy reading them.
Thanks Memory! So far the food is still there, some tuna and dog food mixed together. That will have to do for now my truck is in the shop and I won't drive my husbands if I don't have to. I have some chicken I will put out in the morning. We have a pond so fresh water is still available and have seen it in the yard near there during the summer and fall at night. I honestly don't know if I will go so far as to try and trap it and get it fixed but will keep that in mind. Not sure how my husband will feel about spending money on that...what would you think it would cost?
Not that I'm going to get attached or anything but I think I'll call him Patch...he/she is black and white...cut little thing.
some places will take care of it for free.. if it's a stray.. sure Memory will know more
