Does anyone have any red spider lilies like in today's article?

http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1347/ They are so pretty, and it says they like full sun.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I don't have the red lycoris LK, but I do have the golden yellow ones.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yellow would be pretty too, I just looked at the plant files like the article says it comes in many colors. Is there anything you're looking for?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

World peace, an end to hunger and a good night's sleep....GRIN Seriously, not right now... but thank you.The gold ones are evergreen in our zone...they die back in May when the temps go up, and then bloom in late September-early October and sprout out again for Fall. I would be happy to share with you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks so much, let me know the postage when you ship them, and I will get payment to you!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I have seen one or two come up along side a vacant house in our neighborhood, and I thought seriously about digging them up last year. Maybe this year?! Still vacant - a foreclosed home and the bank has done nothing with it. A notice of condemnation went up on it a few weeks ago. I must save the plants!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Of course, save those plants!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Truth is last year I went in and dug up some pink sorrel/oxalis. Could not resist. The year before I dug up some heuchera as well as some blue mistflower.

Can't believe the house has been vacant that long. I know there is some dianthus out back now and a couple of shasta dasies. I guess I will go and take what's left. Who knows what will happen to the house. There are some lovely raised beds out back. There was a glass greenhouse which they removed. They really loved their little garden.

Will keep you posted. That red lily was a surprise, and I remember where it came up, but I can't remember when.

Love going around abandoned country homes .

Yeap on the abandoned buildings and the like. I dug up a bunch of iris one time they were strange didn't now what they were, I got up really really early one Sunday before anyone was up and dug some up, a long with some old fashioned yellow iris. Finally after several years found out they spuria iris and were sort of particular when they were dug....well got to love stupidity because every one of them survived...rofl, dug in the wrong wrong time of the summer. Glad I did it because the following year they trenched right thru them where a water pipe was running. Probably took 6 years and I am just now seeing a few reappear on that old place.

Oh Happ that's such a lovely bloom.

The weather has not allowed me to get down the street despite all your encouragement. Soon! ;)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have some of those, they have only bloomed once, they came from my Great Aunt Effies. I have dug a few up and moved to a place with more moisture. She called them orchid iris.

Dahlonega, GA

I don't know what they are called , but I sure would like a couple

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

The iris farm Comanche acres that is west of me he sells different color spuria iris. Now my white ones have multiplied and bloomed like crazy for me every year. My hybridized ones are much slower multipling but have beautiful colors.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

digger, if you remind me in the fall I will send you a few. I love sharing, but have a horrible memory..... ;(

Dahlonega, GA

Oh , thank you . I've just gotten into irisis . Want to learn more . They are all beautiful and I only got my first ones year before last , from Wholly Hosta .

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Comanche acres says "Spuria irises are shipped from mid August until October. Cold climates are given priority. Mulch is reccomended for cold climates for the first winter." So be sure a remind me sometime in August.

Guys I am going to get a greenhouse this year. I am soooo excited. DH is going to build it attached to the front of my garden room. The garden room has double french doors and they will open up to the greenhouse. He bid on a bunch of that double walled greenhouse plastic and got it....so excited. Never understood north walls on a greenhouse in the midwest. It is just too darn cold here. So everything will be tied in together and he is finally going to run water to the greenhouse and garden room. So excited. Can;t wait to retire....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Congrats on the greenhouse, that will be so nice!

LK, it is in the 70's right now, I trained my new helper , his name is Braxton he is ten. He worked the compost pile and dug weeds and picked up sticks.
I threw out a ton more seeds, and some fertilizer, next weekend I move stuff out.

Hope you had a great birthday Debra and got to play a little bit.

Here in Missouri we are going from winter to 70's.....fingers crossed on the peach blossoms, by the weekend we are suppose to be be back freezing.... Need the temps to steady out a bit. DH bought me 4 blueberry bushes from Sams club that are in the box and 4 grape vines.....they were already in full growth mod from being in a warm building so yesterday I figured I was going to have to transplant them in the solar room before they ran out of moisture in the boxes since I had them 2 weeks and still waiting on the weather.

Does anyone remember the horror movie invasion of the body snatchers I think was the name when the pods started taking over the people....I was about 7 or 8, made quite an impression on me, or at least parts of it....rofl.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, I remember that movie! Pretty creepy at the time!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

EWWWWWWWWHHHHHH! That is the part I remember and it is still scary.......now I want to see the whole thing again, but I may need to rethink this greenhouse deal....rofl.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

^_^

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I remember both versions of that movie. I also liked the little house of horrors. I think of that movie when I am in Charlie's room.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Debra I never saw the remake. Original was scary enough fir me as a kid.
Use to be a theater in kc that ran little house of horrors once a month and it was quite a following to the point the audiance would recite the lines.....rofl

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Ok guys if I disappear from daves you will know why.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

You better not disappear!

Dahlonega, GA

No , most of us don't know , unless you just don't like us anymore . I'd rather see you on here .

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Can't watch horror movies but do love a good suspenseful whodonit.

Somebody should have slapped me silly for not keeping up here.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

At least your here now Fruity!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

The only reason I would be missing is if the pods from the body snatchers got me....rofl ;) That is what I was referring to...rofl

I love suspense movies, the scary new movies are way too scary for me or maybe it is just too violent and bloody. I did like the show Sixth Sense but it is really old. Seen anything good lately?

We got netflix with roku. Great thing is I can watch what I want when I want since my schedule is so goofy.

Well high tomorrow 40, that is high, some talk of snow, geehz. Linda Kay I guess I am going to have to live thru your garden cause I am guessing it isn't going to freeze there.

Debra love your picture.
