Thankee !

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

New Year and winter has taken hold! We may be getting snow today. From what I hear there were already flurries this morning. I have had enough of the cold the past week or so. Temps at night have been in the low 20's most nights... burrrr! I have used my fireplace several nights. I have not used it in years. It is nice to have a roaring fire warming the house though. Have used a lot of my wood though. That really dry old wood burns fast and hot.

Happy New Year everyone!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is sleeting here as I type, I sure hope it does not stick very long!

Please say a prayer for my dad as he goes to the hospital today (at 1:00) to try and have a procedure done to clear and repair the arteries in his legs to improve circulation in his leg! Thanks so much!

Dahlonega, GA

Lhasa , I hope you had the chimney checked for buildup .

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I had it cleaned a few years ago and have not used it since so I assume it should be ok. It sould be OK.... just last night had smoke in the house because a log fell off the grate forward toward the front while I was out in the jacuzzi.. the smoke came out the front of the screen. The house still smells like smoke! Oh well, one of the hazzards of having a fireplace.

When I had one , I loved it .

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I love my ROKU! Netflix is great... I also have hulu because we don't have tivo or DVR so it is great for watching TV shows that I miss when they are on.

How's the dad doing Taters ? It's been a few days now .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dad made it through surgery, he is still in recovery, but everything went fine! They replaced the main artery in his leg, and removed the bad toe. He is in a lot of pain, so they are pumping him full of morphine. he will be in the hospital for a few more days, then they will move him to a rehab hospital, to help him to learn how to walk with the toe removed.
Thanks for all the prayers!

Dahlonega, GA

My dad had a toe removed due to diabetis . Poor baby . Hugs for him and prayers for all the gophering you'll be doing . At least he'll be home soon

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Ya , I am still alive. Our electricity went kaput the other night so it was a cold couple of nights without heat, but it is fixed now. I am glad your dad is on the mend, LK> Joe's mom will prolly have the same thing done soon, she has diabetes and her toes are not the right color.
Sister feels goood with this new chemo, I will be there to hear what DR says ( whether the chemo is working or not) end of this month. I took the day off to have the Westar guy come out, and then the electric guy come out, now we have heat, but no lights at all in the basement gardens. Another guy came out and now we need a new breaker box, so i said make it so, they will have extra slots for my grow lights and they are putting in some t3 or t5 light fixtures for me.
Nuns orchid is spiking. Can't wait to see them bloom. Hope the darkenss doesn't ruin their blooming process. At least tonight we will be warm. Back to work tommorrow.
love you all..

Dahlonega, GA

We luv good news . Say "HI " to sister from us all .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear you had no utilities for a few days. Glad to hear your Sister is doing well, with this round of Chemo! Give her big hugs from us when you see her.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Last day to sign up for the Valentine swap, come and check it out!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

So good to hear from you Debra and so so good to hear about your sister. I was worried about you. Without heat Omg.... it has been awful cold here. My plants are suffering because I am horrible about watering love my plants but not being able to splash wAter around it is a pain and watering with a container i hate it. Horrible cold here

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

thought I had better check in, sister had her chemo today, but has not returned my calls. I will call her again tommorrow and check in tommorrow night. I have to be at work at 6:40 am for a meeting. belah. can't do any swaps yet, but you sure do tempt me, Linda.

Joyce, I just use the fish tub water since I have to refresh it anyway, jug it up along with my washer water and use it in spray bottles, they seem to be very happy with that. I lost my maya, tho, I am so very sad. ashamed to tell AuntB, *Bonnie* I upended it and found the roots were rotted. one little twig is still alive in a tiny pot, doublt it will make it, it has been kinda dark in the basement until the electricians get the new breaker box put in and the long t5 lights set up in the ceiling down there. will be nice to flip a switch and not worry about a fire all the time, tho. moved my desk to the front of the heater vent in the dining room so now my feet are nice and toasty LOL.here is the last "before pic" of the basement main area... the circle wreath vines are all done now, I have new vines ready to set up there, they are hanging out in the pink bedroom on some shelves in the south window that Joe put up for me..
just think, no more clamp lights. The are adding dedicated breakers for the outlets in charlies room and the freezer room for me, tho, since I still will keep growing things in those rooms. When they came inside they were suprised to have me take them down there, they said usually no one wants them to go to the basement , because most people grow pot plants in them LOL.. i gave them a few peppers off the plants and a couple of tomatoes while they were doing their walk around. Last pic is a pic they took of us at the company christmas party.. Joe has since shaved since they called the strike off and he is finally back to work. That dress is 10 years old, but no one knew the difference. Glad I hang on to old stuff LOL.. especially good ole Joe. His mom up in buffalo is in the hospital, she now has CHF along with high blood pressure, diabetes and a ton of other stuff she has been dealing with.. All she wants is to go home she told me today . sis in law dana lost her mom the other night, she was in a nursing home with alchemiers and demetia, so dana is glad her momma went peacefully in her sleep. I decided I am going to retire in a year when I am 62, Joe is not going to retire until is either 65 or dead he said, his dad died at 68.. but his dad smoked and had cancer. They offered him an early retirement package ( he is almost 62), but he is dead set against it. His jet the 60 model does not get made anymore, he thought they would send him to school to learn composites, but instead he will be making spare parts for all the 60 models out there already. Well I am tired and worried about sister, so better get off before ya all kick me out for such a long winded post. Please know I pray for all of us here and all of our families to be healthy happy and terrific everynight. Love you. Debra

Hey Debra, sure hope your Sister answers the phone soon! I know some of those treatments can knock you on your butt pretty fast, so lets pray she is tired and sleeping? Let us know when you hear from here please?
Where does Joe work? What is a 60 model jet? Sorry to hear his Mom is in the hospital! Praying for a full recovery for her. Also sorry to hear about DIL losing her Mom! Glad she went peacefully too!
Hope you have a good day at work!
Love those plants in the basement!

I have several brug blooms in the spare bedroom, most of them are pink, one is yellow, and I have one that is trying so hard to be a double, I just can't get the inside skirt to drop. I don't think it is a full skirt inside?

Thumbnail by taters55 Thumbnail by taters55 Thumbnail by taters55
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

looks like a double to me, she will drop down, they take longer I hear,,,, all the doubles I gave away for others to grow have been gorgeous, but I have yet to see one of mine bloom, go figger LOL

Sister called me today and first off said :" can't a person sleep?" LOL yes this treatment kicked her butt. she even had to use the oxygen, but then later she called and said she felt better. one more treatment, then the tests and then I head down there to be with her for the results. Joe works for learjet, Bombardier bought it (( gates lear jet before)) and they have phased out the 60 Model private jet. personally, i think they need better sales people, but that is just a salesperson talking here. ;P~

Greta might get to go home tommorrow she is very excited as she hates being in the hospital, something about her not using the sleep apneamachine caused the heart valve ( the "lazy one" ) to not work right.,so Joes lil sister went and got the apnea sleep mask machine and they are recording her stats tonight on it. she has been peeing for the past two days constantly since they put her on lasix. so far no pacemaker is needed. Thank God.

Got everything ready for the new breaker box and dedicated plant light breakers and new t5 plant lights to be installed. I am very excited, but I have to let them in, and then go to work for a few hours and come back home. None of my brugs are even close to budding, they have been dropping leaves since being in the dark. I havn't had a yellow brug since jean pasko, and charles grimaldi, i gave them away. none of the yellows everyone has shared with me have lived.

gathered laundry water tonight and went out in the dark and dumped it on the prennials. Hope we get rain one of these days.. none in the near future, tho .Heck, we havn't even had more than a dusting of snow yet.
all the CC's are blooming their lil hearts out.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you talked to Sherri! I know that was a relief when she answered the phone for you! Praying that she gets awesome test results! I think this is my first double, and may have come from you? I don't have a name for her though. I am so bad about keeping labels on my plants!
Glad to hear Greta is doing better too!

Oh, I almost forgot again, I love that picture of you and Joe!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

thanks Linda, I bet ya got that double of Brendas( seedsprout) that i grew from seed and sent out. It looks like the one bonnie grew out I took to her as a seedling ,too and bloomed. I need to call her and see how she is doing. I will look up my past notes and see what cross she is for you. I wonder who I gave adeline to, i thought i sent her to faye. I gave a double white to a man at work for the poodle pom hibiscus he started from a cutting, he told me she bloomed beautiful for him and loved it. He also got an isabella cutting that i rooted , grew it to a shrub that bloomed and fell in love with it. He keeps coming in with strange seeds from the middle east to give me from his native land, I am anxious to plant the monzanto pepper seeds he gave me.
did I send you any swan plant milkweed seeds? if not let me know, all of you have to have that one.. this banana has three pups. she is in the sump pump well that has never ran cuz it doesn't have drain tiles into it and is unplugged. one of the guys at work said to take that sump pump and use it to pump my washer water out to the yard this summer. bluebutterfly clerodendrum in second pic, swanplant milkweed third pic.

Love that swanplant milkweed. I have never heard of it! Would love to give it a try. All your plants look happy and healthy!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

they only get laundry water and fish tub water, Linda, except for the CP. I give it rain water, or melted snow, which here lately has been nada. I jugged up 5 jugs last rain we had, down to one gallon left.

Guys are here now so better get off before they shut off the power.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Laundry, and fish water is good for them!

Dahlonega, GA

Just in case anyone care , my E E has put up a bloom stem and looks like two more on the way .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like they are getting an early start? Are they inside?
I bought some caladium bulbs today, first ones for me, I hope it is not too early to put them outside?

Dahlonega, GA

The plant is two years old , planted in a large pot with Miracle Gro . Taken out and re potted in a smaller pot and transported to Texas . Still in a small pot , outdoors . I kept all the roots that I could and it's getting root bound . Will plant in the yard in the next coupla days . It's been in a small pot (3gal) for 3 1/2 months and all the leaves were cut off for transport . I will take a picture and hopefully , I can put it from my camera to puter . I have windows 7 and hate it , it doesn't always load where I can find the pictures .

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I would LOVE to see the bloom on your EE.
Linda, if it isn't freezing any more this year, I would go ahead and plant them...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the advice Debra.

Digger, are in you in Texas now? What part?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Diggger, try making a photo folder in your computor and have it saved to your desk top, by date is how I save mine. just a thought for your photo downloading and the trail to find them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When are you going to go see your Sister Debra? Please know we are still praying for her!

Dahlonega, GA

Don't use the desktop any longer .It's a pain to load them and I have 20 or 30 folders all named . When i tried to load the last bunch to Sam , my g grandson they went somewhere else .Don't make me lie . I had windows xp , loved it . This sucks !

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi gals, I am still up. been tring to find my special seeds for the seed trays and winter sowing. sheese! I always lose track of time when I am downstairs.
Sister is holding her own. I find out next week whether I go down there the last friday of this month or the first friday of next month.. I actually am leaving on a wenesday to go.. just have to wait until she gets the dates from the dr. She has been busy getting stuff organized with her insurance and bills. bleah. she only uses her oxygen at night now, and she says there is more fluid buid up she can tell, but she does not feel sick like she did with the pnuemnonia.

her hip and leg has been hurting more she says, prolly from the bone cancer. If we can get this stuff to slow down, it will be a blessing. Can't wait to see how the spot on her liver is doing. *sigh*

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure hope you find those seeds. I know what you mean when you lose track doing what you love to do!
Praying for Sherri to get an AWESOME report from the DR!

A poem for my sister:

Who is the little girl with mulberry stains on her lips,
who liked to play all day, who is the little girl who rarely saw whips,
and played in a stock tank in summer, a mermaid she was to be,
who is the girl who turned to a teen, and laffed and danced all day,
who was going to have a maid she said.. McDonalds was her favorite food back then.. When it was only 25 cents for a burger.. those were the good ole days..
Who is this friend I found in her, walking in the middle of the ninnesca river ..
We didn't sink or stumble or fall, Promises Made and Promises Kept, forever we will be,
Sisters forever in soul and heart , yes that's it, it is you. I love you, my sister.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, when you hug her, tell her we are all there with you in spirit, praying for good results!

Love that poem!

Dahlonega, GA

We all are hanging in there for her .
