Coffee Break # 88 Christmas Countdown

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, that would be nice.

Speaking of people who suck, there have been several fires around the area lately that are under suspicion of arson. One was at a vacant house that's for sale right down the street from me. Scarey. People who commit arson really suck.

Update on my bil: it was a tumor and are currently removing it, they don't know what kind it was yet(so guess it will be a longer time in surgery)

Hoping for the best, Jen.....I do most of my shopping online.....and in bookstores, & in small specialty shops....hate malls, & big dept. stores, not just at this time of year, but like forever!

Same here, Jen.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Finally had the tree guy come to estimate cutting up and removing the blue spruce I lost. What makes it $$ is the dang stump. Since the whole root mass came up, you can't push it back and grind it as you would with a normal tree removal. Has all that dirt on it.

Spruce - donate it for a christmas tree.

Praying, Jen for your BIL

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Yeah, Victor - why not tell the local Boy Scouts troop that you have a rather large Christmas tree you'd like them to pick up after the holiday . . .

or they could make wreaths or things & sell them.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

victor: I have seen those trees on their sides.
I feel your pain. Its expensive to fix.
We inherited a 20 year old landscape plan that has grown beyond all help.I have had 3 pines removed due to disease. There are 2 firs on my side of the house,I expect a bad situation every time we get high winds.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

70 feet guys! And now pretty dead.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

$400 to cut up and remove tree. $200 for stump! They have to walk all the limbs to the street (about 120 ft). No room to bring truck into immediate area without killing my good stuff.

Thomaston, CT

Yes, it was that expensive when I had the pines cut a few months ago......

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

can't you just find someone with a chainsaw and dolly and hire a deposal company to haul off the tree from the curb - would be cheaper - hell I'd cut it up if I lived closer.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

And wha wouldn't have to tie it off to get it to fall just so, cuz it's already down.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Victor, you don't have your own chainsaw?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No chainsaw. Would be a big job and what to do with that enormous root mass??

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you get the dirt off where you are cutting and have whoever picks it to remove it with the rest of the tree.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

victor. The price you are paying is decent. That job would be over 700 bucks here.
Think of your back muscles and how many more days you can garden if you let the pros do all the work.

The small Scots pines I had removed took the men less than an hour and when they sucked the tree into the chipper and were done there was hardly any sign they were there.Sometimes it just pays to pay.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I know. I am not regretting it.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I just built a compost pile over my stump, then covered it with soil and built a rock wall around it. Voila! Landscaping!

Thomaston, CT

Sounds like a plan...

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

did i read rock wall????? let's see this work of landscaping :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have posted before about how I love merino wool socks. I wear them just about exclusively. Well I recently bought a merino wool 'base layer' shirt and do I ever love it! Lightweight, soft and comfy, it dries SO quickly you won't believe it. And unlike synthetics it does NOT get smelly. Not cheap, you have to look for sales, but well worth the effort.
