FRANKENSTORM CHECK-IN THREAD

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

We took most of it down .. We had a witch on the power pole .. She flew away.. And we left a tombstone in the middle with sandy rest in peace on it .. The dollar store pumpkins I carved and put in the fence were so jammed in .. I knew they weren't going anywhere..

Randy and I decided to buy a toolbox fuel tank for the bed of my truck .. Could have filled that sucker up and been good for a long time.. And if not needed use it in the car after .. We are going to live & learn

South Hamilton, MA

My addition is a mild one. I would like to get a 2nd battery operated lantern. the first one worked fine. (I don't drive so DH takes care of the car.)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I bought led battery lanterns .. Been using the same C's since the start

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think I bought it on buy.com.. $10.00 plus shipping.. Bought them for Halloween props.. Looks like the fountain mister setup with the circle of led lights.. Dimmer on it too.. Not the sturdiest thing but it works great

Power came back on in the middle of the night, but bad news our coffee maker died

Thomaston, CT

Glad for you, Jen!

So, back up generators for gas stations (evidently this is standard in South/Southeast)
and coffee shops!

Seems Murphy's Law is still around. sigh...

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

glad your power is back on jen

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yay Jen, I was gonna say sometimes the estimate they give is worst case but thats excellent. (I'd be sad on the coffee too. Time to go French press? I do not like instant.)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah so glad it wasn't worst case eta

Found out yesterday we were actually VERY fortunate, the development behind us had been out since Monday

Hubby doesn't trust the rest of the ornamental pear(it's not a Bradford) that broke so he's taking the whole thing down today, recommendations on a replacement?

South Hamilton, MA

Crabapple? Robins love them if you love robins.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

YAY Jen!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

get a nice dogwood

Thomaston, CT

How about a hawthorn?

If you have a coffee pot with a basket, fill the basket up, get the water boiling and pour it in increments. Once the coffee is made keep it warm on the stove, or at least we do with a gas stove.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The power is on!!!!!!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

YAY for Memory!!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I want a Korean Stewartia, myself. Bright red fall leaves, interesting bark, 3" white blossoms for a long time. But, I would never argue against feeding the birds, so an abundant crabapple would be very good. Some hawthorns are very broad, so worth deciding if there's room. My other desire for a protected fruit tree would be persimmon. I want to take my own pear tree out.

Yay Memory!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Power not on yet .. But progress is being made around the corner.. Postponed our trick or treating until the 10th.. At least .. It said

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Been all over DG trying to account for everyone. The Eastern Seaboard has had more than enough. God, it is time for you to take control and protect your people.

Talk about guilt. I sit here in my home of 46 years with the ac cranking cool air because it was 87 today. Got a glass of wine and thinking of a shower. Were it possible I would have every single one of you here as my guests. After some 7 years on DG I recognize lots of names and my heart breaks for everyone of you. I am a nester and don't think I would be as strong as you are. Please forgive me if I sound like I am gloating because I am ok. Could not be further from the truth. For a very, very long time I will be talking to God the Father about each of you. Lots of things in this world that I don't understand. "Sandy" is one of them. As I posted on another thread, I have been through 3 tornados and am fully aware of nature's destruction.

No way to explain to you how my heart is with you tonight.....and will continue to be. Just know that many, many people are praying for you and trying to do something, anything to help you. One of our neighbors left this morning with a convoy of the Baptist Men. God put His blessings on them.

Didn't intend to rattle on so. I really don't know how to put into words my feelings for all of you.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks Lou, you can rattle on all you want!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Ditto to what Jen said, Lou. Thank you

Look how the leaves got jammed in the rim around the wheel on hubby's truck

Yes Lou thank you!
I'm one of the luckier ones that didn't have too much damage and I count my Blessings.
It may sound trivial to some but being here at Dave's especially the Northeast forum is one of them high on my list...I can always count on getting just the right uplift from all my friends here. Very special people♥

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Wow Jen, funny what wind can do, when I saw some of the tree damage it looks as though they were struck by lightning not wind. Glad yours didn't cause too much damage.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

In 1994 we had a tornado that took the community closest to us OFF THE MAP. We had lots and lots of damage. Didn't think I would ever be the same. And now, here I am. I hate that so many old-growth trees are gone.....we had the same. Others have grown back to take their place. In my feeble way, I am trying to help your feelings by knowing we got through it and you will too.....stronger and more appreciative than before.

Going to sign off now and will not trouble you any more tonight.

God bless and keep you, May His Grace shine upon you.

Praying for the group in the NE states. Not too familiar with many of you, but came here hoping to see Pirl's name. Praying she and her DH evacuated early and is ok.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks for popping in Lou .. I too am grateful not to have damage .. Just darkness.. But that will pass.. Not months of moving or rebuilding .. Repair.. Panicking over the thought of another storm coming next week.. Would be too much to deal with... Praying for all

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Shiela Pirl did not evacuate but someone has heard from her

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank the Lord for friends! Prayers for those as they go through the next few months. Thanksgiving and Christmas is going to be hard for them.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Still waiting to hear from my cousin who has a 2nd house in Ocean Beach, that one community that was MASSIVELY devastated. Don't know if they were up here or in FL at the time

South Hamilton, MA

Not hearing from friends & relations is worrisome. Hope your power is back soon Allison. Glad that Memory is back with us officially.

Not good

South Hamilton, MA

Hope that it offers temporary relief though.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know my neighbor needs to learn to be more consertive with his fuel.. Only has one can to boot

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Our jump starter pack has outlets to plug in electronic things like your cell phone or whatever.. Our heated mattress pad is low voltage and working great on the little pack .. Wanted to give the generator a break and save some fuel for a few hours .. Kind of chilly and this worked great .. Can charge it up again when we start the generator
