Move it Jen! I am sure you can think of something better that doesn't cover the side of the house.
Good news about the army housing.
FRANKENSTORM CHECK-IN THREAD
You can always plant some dwarf evergreen there.....
Yes def something smaller
Not my place to suggest, but, I am on fiber optic wi-fi and it is taking forever to open this thread. Think we need a new thread or possibly it is still all the downed lines in your area? Just answered it myself, downed lines.
Must be, LouC, because I have slower-than-syrup dialup, and it didn't even take that long to load for me. lol
Went over to AC today to help out with storm demo in a house near the bay. I was surprised that 5 of us could take out the dry(wet)wall up to 47" from the floor in the living room, hallway and 3 bedrooms. The floor was still wet. The family was also still clearing out their belongings, but we were able to follow behind them as they cleared the bedrooms. We left at 7:30 this morning and got back at 5. We were on the road for about 4 hours. Things were starting to smell with the mustiness. One time i am glad my nose doesn't work real well. They also still had their frig with food in it. We couldn't get it out the door. We tried taking off the front door. Don't know why they hadn't cleaned it out before this. They didn't want to take the door of the frig off, but I think that is what is going to need to happen. The homeowner is a pastor but is pretty disabled from diabetes. The water line looked like it was about 2' up the wall. We were instructed to only take out the drywall up to 47" cuz FEMA would only replace up to 48". This way there would be an inch of leeway so they could tidy it up. We made quite a pile out by the street of soggy drywall. We made a good team. I started by taking faceplates off. Baseboards were next while two others measured and made chalk lines, then we all scored the lines and started banging it out. I also was the nail remover after getting the boards off. We all did clean up, too. Needless to say we are beat, but also feel like we made a difference. Wishing I had a hot tub about now. I need to look up Hopeforce. The man who gave us our work orders then left us to go to another work site is from Nashville. Originally we had contacted another church in OC to see what we could do, and the pastor sent us to the address we were at today. Sorry, long story. It just feels like a little, tiny dent in what is needed.
Good for you Jan!! I wish we could all go help put a "tiny dent" in, I'd feel useful at least and not so helpless. I know you must be beat but also feel good about that dent!
Great report Jan. And one of the best kind of tireds! A virtual hot tub to you all!
PS I keep wondering whether there is some thing we could do "plant wise" since it is something we all do...maybe a portion of what we bring to the swap at your house in the spring could find some new homes and lives to brighten and replace what got buried or swept away? Just a thought that I'm planting.... Judy

All those tiny dents add up. Good job!
Still praying for all of you.
Woot, woot!! The guy who drove today has a hot tub, so after dinner we went over there. They don't have the temp too high so you can stay in for a longer period of time. We came home after an hour and a half. Feeling very relaxed.
I was kind of surprised at how normal things looked there, except for the piles of stuff at curb side in certain areas. We weren't up near the boardwalk area, but along the bay. One house in the neighborhood had been built up on stilts so water can just flow underneath the house. That one didn't have anything at the curb.
good for you Jan.. any dent is a good dent
Unless it is on your car!! Heehee.
very true
;)
good work, as mentioned those dents add up.
