That would be Louise and Hank :)
Coffee Break # 86 Fall is here!
Sherrie, you are right about the nerves....my brother & a friend of mine were both sick because of the storm forecast....I was reassuring, telling them the coast would suffer most, & that was the case here.....our town was really spared.
Allison got a taste of a hurricane, last night. I felt for her when she said she was scared. I kept telling her everything would be OK, Hang tight.
If you have never been in a hurricane, you dont know what they are capable of and how you feel. I know, been there done that. I have seen a siding glass door bow about a foot and not break.
I can say a few made me cringe and pray a window didn't blow out
I fell asleep thinking I should sleep in another room away from the maple outside the window. But all was ok here.
Very emotional day for me today. I am counting my blessings that I know things could be worse but just walking around my neighborhood and seeing some of the damage and thinking about some of the others that lost so much more took a toll on me.
Ronnie (((hugs))) it's understandable.
Totally understandable, Ronnie
Same here. Very disturbing driving around. Lost my blue spruce, but who cares. Still no power.
But we woke up!!! That says it all
yes it does!
I ended up having to go into town yesterday as Justin is pretty sick. It gave me a chance to see what damage the winds brought my area. We have some pretty big trees that came down but otherwise than that...rain. I am assuming the coast line took another beating but I can't take a trip while Justin in sick so it will have to wait for another day.
While in town the sky turned black in a matter of seconds, opened up and dumped torrential rains on us, threw in some big lightening strikes & mixed it with hail. Sitting at a stop light, I couldn't see a thing and all I could hear was the "tink, tink, tink of the hail hitting my X-Terra.

My neighbor still has a tree on their house and the closest apartment building lost its roof completely. Courthouse where I work is open, but yesterday there was a power line sparking as the pole leans toward the building--easy to see from my window. I am hoping they fixed that. The chief judge was watching over the work crews at 5 pm. And the storm barely hit this area.
the destruction on the coast in NJ and NY is devastating.
Bad bad bad
Celeste - hoping the Justin is back in good health soon.
Lots of trees and wires down in Bridgeport. I heard that the City just cut the power for everybody at 5 on Monday - I wish they would have posted that on the City website - I had never lost power before for more than 3 hours, so I was not prepared for long-term loss. *banging my hand on my head*
Neighbors two doors down sent their boy to make sure I was OK yesterday morning. How sweet is that? I took them most of my apple cider that had come from a local orchard as no way could I drink a gallon by myself. They fed me breakfast - farina prepared with gee and cardamon - who knew Pakistani's eat farina too? Then I found out that a big patch of shingles had blown off thier house.
The medlar tree in the front yard would have blown over except that it was staked. I can't get in my garage to get a shovel, but I took soil from the garden with a broken shovel I found in my neighbor's yard and got the tree nearly upright. (Actually it is better than before.) That was the extent of my damage. I brought the gray stray in and he demanded to go OUT during the storm. He was there for breakfast in the morning and I think he had been staying inside his box on the front porch.
Other than losing what is in the fridge and freezer, everything is OK. I was very lucky as was my whole block. I was lazy and hadn't canned much of my fruit this summer - which is in the freezers - and I couldn't find any ice. But on a bright note - the long awaited Fuyus stayed on the tree - except for one. I picked it up and decided to try it even though it wasn't bright orange and it was surprisingly ripe! So I have my first crop of Fuyu's since I planted the tree 10 years ago!
Someday I will get a warm shower and live will be excellent because right now it is good.
Peace and Plenty - Memory
Celeste I hope nothing too serious with Justin, he is in my prayers to get well soon.
Memory, glad to hear about your Fuyus is OK even though I don't know what it is :-) also glad the kitties are OK.
Our power is back on and I'm so thankful, I don't feel well and that wasn't helping any. We had just bought an inverter battery from a friend to hook up to the fridge, ran the cord from the car and pulled the fridge out and on came the lights! It was a small investment but hoping we never need it again! Like memory we really never lose our power for long so I guess I was a bit under prepared too. glad the heat is on. Clean up can wait till the weekend when the sun is out and it's a tad warmer.
Feel better, Justin
Glad you now have power, luvs
Hoping you get yours back soon, Memory. That WAS very sweet that the boys came to check on you.
Fuyu is a variety of Asian Persimmon (non-ascorbic) http://www.sdfarmbureau.org/fuyu/little_fuyu.html.
Hope that everyones power is back soon. Got a message on the phone from the town manager that Halloween tricks are postponed until Sat. Guess that there are still outages in our small 2 towns.
there are still some people around here with out power.
Thanks everyone, he has a ear infection, red throat, sinus infection and coopy cough. They stuck him on an antibiotic and he'll ne good as new in a few days. :)
Was going through the different pictures on the web of the aftermath. Jersey was hit some hard!! I got to about picture 20 in this group of 50 something when I a sob caught in my throat. I finished all the picture but not without a wet face. All I can say is....
I am so sorry Jersey Girls.

Edited to say the set of pictures in the second little box titled "Sandy devastates New Jersey" just above the headline.

Glad Justin will feel better soon....my Mom is still with me....ended up at Doc's this morning...thought it was stress....I have a sinus infection & was dehydrated.....doc said 2 quarts of fluid a day not enough when you're sick....Gatorade got me back together again....
Oh, dear, Marilyn. Please drink, drink, drink!!!!
Seeing pictures of the devastation I can only count my blessings over and over and over again.
Thanks, Jan....I knew I was sick, but doc's office was closed until today, & he was really too sick to be in......
Glad to see lots of NJ and NY people posting. We had high winds, and lost power for 2 days, but no damage.
Glad to hear, songs
I hope you feel better soon Marilyn.
Celeste I know just how you feel, I hadn't seen any pics until tonight...had to hold it in since I was at the girlies getting ready for Halloween, didn't want them to see me crying...seeing the minor damage here compared to that didn't sit well...this storm was too close for comfort and will haunt me a long time. Seeing Sea Side Heights really hit home, as a kid we weren't "shore" people like some, my dad didn't like the beach, but my mom loved the boardwalk and we would take a ride down and play the games. Never came home empty handed, she always "won" something!
Hope Justin is feeling better!!
The Chef at work gave me all the ice I want! I shared it with my neighbors. Very thankful for small favors these days. The Mayor said that Trick& Treat was still on - no kids showed up so I guess parents are smarter than the Mayor. Still hoping for power soon.
How timely!
thanks for the giggle!
