Saw Hunger Games about a month ago. Did not expect to like it, given the premise of kids killing each other. Was surprised. Well-done. Still a sick idea, but at least they did not show excessive violence close up.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I loved the Hunger Games movie, and the book even more. I don't often find books that keep me riveted. I couldn't put that one down. Two other books that were like that for me were The Horse Whisperer and The Eyes Of The Dragon (Stephen King). Both I read in just 2 or 3 days. That's unheard of for me.

Just got back from seeing Life Of Pi. It's a must see movie. Amazing! That's all I'm going to say.

Because Lincoln and Pi were sold out, we saw Flight. Depressing story a la "Lost Weekend" but Washington will probably be nominated for an Oscar.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Don - I didn't find it so terribly depressing as it is a redemption story. The message was muddied, however as
I wasn't clear whether the crash was finally blamed on equipment failure or pilot error due to alcohol, in spite of the fact that the pilot was extraordinary.

My GF and I had a long talk afterwards about "functioning alcoholics" as we had both been married in the past to one of them. I never met hers, but she knew mine really well as they worked together. Denzel's character was one of those. The only thing I found unbelievable is that the character could love someone enough to actually take the blame himself for his actions. Guess those epiphanies do happen - but in real life - I think not so often. Or maybe that is my psyche wishing that had happened for me.

I keep hearing how good the Lincoln movie is.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw Lincoln and it is good.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Could deal with one more Pi this weekend!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Lincoln is another movie I want to see. Waiting for The Hobbit. Really looking forward to that one.

Karen

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

there will be three of the hobbit - not sure how they will stretch it out for three movies - except for the money they will make.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! I didn't know there would be three. Sounds excessive for that one. Perfectly reasonable for the LOTR trilogy, as there were three books. Even then, with each movie being 3 hours long, approximately, they had to leave a lot out.

thought shawn and derek should have won DWS, they may have broken some dance rules still they were the most consistent and best out there.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wanted them to win too but I was disappointed they didn't play by the rules last night

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Just love the title of the article

Any on the list that you thought were dead???

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I saw Wreck It Ralph with one of my clients the other day. Really cute, quite clever and entertaining. I enjoyed it.

Karen

Good to know, my son still wants 2 see it

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I think he'll really have fun with that one.

Saw Spiderman on Broadway last night. Lots and lots of flying. It kinda did look like a cartoon.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That must have been interesting.

My nephew and I watched The Hunger Games yesterday. That was his first time seeing it, and he liked it. Also watched it again with my friend Gretchen, and she liked it, too. The movie based on the second book in the series, Catching Fire, is coming out next Nov.

Oh, I also watched Slumdog Millionaire with my nephew. He loved it. It's one of my all time favorites.

Karen

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Lincoln is probably the best movie I've seen in a long time. Go see it if you haven't! I only felt I was watching a dramatized version of the book Team of Rivals in a few short segments. There must have been a lot of research in this film's preparation.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Seems everyone is liking it.

Kirk Douglas turned 96 today! After his stroke, never thought he would last this long.

RIP jazz great Dave Brubeck, who died on Wed. Take Five one of my fave songs ever.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Reading the Post review of the Stones concert last night is funny/sad. When will they give up?? Now called the Strolling Bones. Couldn't pay me to see them now.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I would like to go see that one, Rosemary.

Karen

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I must have been in a good mood when i saw Lincoln, because many of the film trailers they previewed looked rather interesting.-- for example, James Franco playing the Wizard of Oz.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sylvester Stallone playing Hamlet?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm looking forward to that new Oz movie. Looks really good. I'm also waiting patiently for The Hobbit to come out. I know, I mentioned that before. Worth mentioning again.

Never read Hobbit or LOTR. Are the movies faithful to the books?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes they are victor - although there is a bit more background in the books

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Had to read the Hobbit in high school

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

so did i - wife never did so i bought here all of them a few years back - re-read the hobbit last year in about 2 days - still wondering how this will be three movies, i understand they will also be using some other material that was not in the book.

saw killing them softly sunday - a good rental - good acting and filmwork - story was lacking any real meaning.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

They changed a few things in the movies, and left a few things out, due to time constraints, I'm sure, but they follow the book very well. I've read them all, and loved them, and I was not disappointed with the movies. In fact they really brought the story to life.

Will be interesting to see how they make the Hobbit into three movies.

RIP Jack Klugman. LOVED The Odd Couple!

Saw Jack once as I was driving across 57 street. Screamed out the window to him as he spoke with a cop. He waved back.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

aaaaawwwwww

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Charles Durnning too.Great character actors and good long lives both he and Jack.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

RIP Jack and Charles.

I saw The Hobbit. EXCELLENT!!!!!! Now I can see how it can be made into 3 movies. They did the most awesome job, really payed attention to detail. Yes, Bill, the added stuff that wasn't in the book to make it into more of a story than it was to begin with. They did such a good job with it. I will be taking my nephew to see it soon.

My nephew and I have been watching Game Of Thrones together. He loves it, as do I. I knew he would. He hadn't seen it before, though I had.

We have also been watching the first season of American Horror Story: Murder House on Netflix. What a weird, creepy show. We're both really into it.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good to hear, Karen. Loved the LOTR series.

Durning was a very good actor. Great in Dog Day Afternoon.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Saw the Hobbit on Christmas Day. Three hours is kind of long for me.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

To me the (almost) 3 hours went by pretty quick. Well, I guess you could say it was 3 hours after the 15 minutes of previews at the beginning. The actual movie was 2 hours and 40 minutes. Lots of movies coming out that I want to see.

Karen

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Yikes way to long for me. Can't sit that long, will have to wait for cable.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the length was one of the negatives in revues of the movie.

karen did you see it in 48 frame 3D? i have read some theaters have 24 frame 3D and not the new 48 frame used in this movie. i will be calling ahead to before going as I would prefer 48 frame

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I saw the 2D version, but would like to check it out in 48 frame 3D. Have no idea how it compares to 24 frame 3D. I took one of my special needs clients to see it, so we had to see the 2D one, as the 3D wasn't starting at a time she could go. Maybe I'll take my nephew to see it this weekend.
